CFL - 2024 Regular Season - Discussion Thread

Us expansion isn’t the answer to any question other than trivia in the cfl. -
Think it’s both. Pretty damn good. I believe you called that happening late in the year too. We keep that going I like our chances at winning out.
-
Is this the first gdr all year with out a roster change from the previous week?

Thinking back through the fog of rider hate (and age) I feel like they had good culture when dressler was there. But that it evaporated seemingly when he left. It’s hard to be sure though, they spanked us bad back then and he was a guy who could carry a locker room. -

Two penalties is really impressive, especially on soo many deep targets. Also the PFF stat at the end is heavily tilted towards valuing tackles with no regard for their depth etc. so for ford to be ahead of the tackling dummy, that’s really some thing. Yup. Don’t think we have any shot of seeing him again this year. -

I think it’s mainly a lack of chances for our side hire ocs league wide. He’s been sitting behind guys who had their jobs pretty locked up. Usually ocs are developed in house, or new hcs bring in their guys. Took buck ages to get his shot. And the current default pipe line is former qb in the league, to qb coach, to oc. -

Any time this team has an oc opening Paul has a 20% chance of being the answer lol. Plop, and Khari would be the popular retread candidates. Internally, Kevin bourgoin has been our wr coach for 7 years. He did work as an oc some at Maine, but I don’t think he’d be high on the list. Jason hogan our rb coach is a developmental guy like that, he worked briefly with the als as a qc for the offense as well as his time with the carabins. I think some one from the oua ranks / Guelph connection would be a solid dark horse. I could also see them offering Markus Howell the upgrade to oc. He’s been a rb/wr coach while also being a pass game and run game co ordinator for a while. Basically all our old failed qbs turned coaches from tee Martin to Brian brohm already have jobs they wouldn’t give up to be our oc. If it did happen and happened a bit later in the off season I think they might’ve let zach call his own plays and brought in some one familiar to the system and or zach to support him. -

They’ve called on buck a few times so it’s hard to imagine that he wasn’t their first pick. Also for them to take our oc that’s been groomed for years would be a big win with the market and if it made us worse an even bigger win. That said I think we would’ve been better off with a new oc, and they’d be worse off with buck over mace. I fully believe mace wants that Mafia culture. I don’t think he has a clue how to get it done, little on what it’d take to cut out the toxicity. And I don’t know if he, the market or oday would have the patience to do what would be needed. I really think we got close to not making it before the 19 gc too. -
Jones does tend to have a quick impact on D like that as a dc, yeah. Big advantage for them and they used it well.

The riders market is soo used to not being unlikeable, that they think every thing directed at them other than adoration, is hate. They’ve drowned in bias to the point they are incapable of realizing they have become every thing they hate most. Remember when zach was KO’d for them and they wanted a suspension that lasted as long as his injury? 2019 and prior they railed against dirty play and cheap shots as a fan base. Since then they’ve been historically bad offenders at the very same, and excuse that behaviour to a sickening extent. They need to can oday and bring in a high level culture setter. Reality is slowly setting in over there, and you see it in attendance. They haven’t made a gc in what 11 going on 12 years? In that time every team but bc has made a grey cup. They have run through coaches and players. Spent on trying to buy stars in free agency. All to no avail. And they remain the most penalized and punished team in the league. Yet they are married to oday and that toxic culture. Look at how much Edmonton improved once jones was gone. -
Nah. The first meeting of the year he went 14/28 220 yards and we didn’t pressure him then. It was close because that was maybe Zachs worst game of the year, and his last bad game. Milanovich will know he’s gonna have time, and both he and bo have film against us this year which gives them an advantage in prep. But at the end of the day, not running the ball plays into the hands of our D more than us not pressuring the pocket plays into Hamilton offence. Also, if we swap haba for fox and rotate the dl we probably see the best pressure front of the year.
-
It’ll make it easier for the teams in the gc to pass more, but that doesn’t help them to get to the gc. Montreal has been much more pass heavy this year, and they will walk into the east final with ease. But I bet they run it 20 times in that game. And I don’t think any other pass only offence will sniff a division final.
-
Hamiltons pass game has been maybe the best in the league. Their D however, has been the dead last in terms of total points, offensive points, tds, first downs and second worst in passing tds. While also giving up the second most passing and rushing first downs, 2nd worst 2nd conversion rate, a qbr against of almost 100, while being neck and neck with us in pretty much all run stopping categories. We are +7 on turnovers compared to Hamilton, +7 in big plays, while they have a slight edge in pass pro and pass rushing. If any secondary or D can slow down Hamilton, it’s us. And their D weaknesses line up very well with our strengths. I don’t think they can slow us down or shoot it out with us unless we play down to them. I don’t think we will put a 50 burger up again, but I think the play on the field with be pretty one sided in our favour.
-
That said, the last 4 gc winners and 6/8 gc finalists have been run to throw teams. The Hamilton style of pass first run never hasn’t worked in a long time.

What’s next, nye will be surprised when water is wet? They’ve lead the league in supplemental discipline each of the last several years. Als trade antwi to the lions for a 3rd rounder. Which is interesting, and probably the only dead line deal. -

Habba off for fox would be a huge win. Hope Adams is good to go. Wallace and feltmate will make for a tough call. Feltmate brings a lot on teams and blocking but Wallace would be our best G off the bench if any one goes down other than kola. I’d love to see a 30 front with woods fox and Adams. Good luck. -

Pretty accurate but a bit out of date, that’s from when he was still like 276, before he went up. Played right side with duke mostly. He’s a solid 4 spot guy but rt is where he’s best. -

Played 3 years at Stanford before transferring to duke. He’s played 4 positions on the ol, just not centre. Hes a natural rt. 6’5 300 lbs was with the colts for a cup of coffee. Pretty highly touted out of hs but prioritized education. Academic allstar type. Also played basketball in hs. -

He is, but not exclusively. Don is where he got the whole pressure pack, and the Don used guys like Willy long before stubler. 2000s and late 90s stubler was all about those blitz packages. As soon as he left the argos those went out the window. -

It is not a version of what stubler ran Lol. Stubler used a 3-4 to send exotic blitz packages, and his coverage was true zone with guys blanketing first down range to take away the intermediate pass. Not deep quarters and match zone/slit field zone. The commitment to bend but don’t break drop 9 came after stubler left the argos. Stublers D was about pressure. He picked up his primary base concept from Don Mathew’s in 1990 on the argos. None of that has to do with the point or claim made in any of the posts.
