TO @ SSK - East Final Rematch + QB Mystery Afoot
wbbfan replied to USABomberfan's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
I could see him taking a jason maas type role. Holding a clipboard as a back up on a good team. I feel like this is the year every thing in montreal comes to a head and they finally clean house. Quebec produces a TON of the NI talent we get in the cfl. So a strong franchise in montreal is in every cfl team and fans best interest. If I was him Id go where I had to best chance to play. Here, sask and maybe BC as a sleeper pick. None of the options are slam dunks but none are terrible either. Could also try to get into calgary and become the heir to BLM. I wonder how this situation would play out. I feel like we should retain his rights seeing as he took the bonus and still counts against our cap this year. But I could see being as he retired the PA trying to get him qualified as a free agent. Im over it, either way. Speaking from experience a ton of things can trigger problems. A sneeze has done it for me. You could be sacked land on your butt head never really change position or angle but the force of the momentum and it coming to a halt can have a whip affect. Nasty things concussions. OT a bit, but brett favre is lobbying to have tackle football banned in the US for early years. Id love to see it get a hockey approach. No hitting till well into the late teen years. I think the end game solution though is a culture wide change in football. Weve seen good progress over the past 10 and 20 years. From two a day full contact practices followed up by wind sprints till you puke, being denied water for large periods of time in such practices, bad mid season performances leading coaches to force two a days mid season and all kinds of awful practices. The next culture change needs to be tackling and hitting. Hawk tackling (rugby style) and not using the head as a weapon needs to be the future. We dont need more head padding, we need to remove head contact. Strict enforcement of tighter spearing rules, and some re working to include all plays in all situations. Maybe greater penalties too. But even then, it has to be done from the grass roots with teaching kids not to use the head. -
TO @ SSK - East Final Rematch + QB Mystery Afoot

I expect a split for LDC and BJB with heavy bias towards the home team winning. Its soo hard to sweep the same team in short order in football. even when the game is one sided, its still great banter and fun. -
our rookie qb in his first pro action, playing a game against a west division power house in a multi delay game out played BOTH the riders "great" qbs...
-
Given the riders shakey qb situation, what would you want from them for bryan bennett? oh wait thats their line... Maybe every NI player on their roster? nah theyd just get cut.
-
time to take some of the league wide pundits soo high on the riders, outback.
-
we have this every year, different topic but same thing. inc 100 pages.
-
have to play games on a weds too
-
I bet nastynate could do a very good grandmama adams...

weve been rolling 7 wil/macs with 2 ni safteys as our back up dbs. Jones is much better then brou. If I was jones and i believed in carter that much, I would use him in a package. He'd play mid field / deep in a robber scheme and let him read + re act to the flight of the ball. Taking him off as a wr and starting him as a db with out a cover guy to back up is nuts.
-
People get caught up in teams played on. How many times was bob cameron cut before coming to the bombers? Id take adams talent in a heart beat. The concern for me would be financial. How much will he take. If I was him though id be chomping at the bit to come here. Its his best chance to steal some action in games.
-
those are fumbles forced not lost. his comparison was between the one dimensional nature of the two. Yes he is a very good PR guy. The original point, was starting at db and doing both full time return duties is too much work load for one guy. Agree. Id rather see him get back to old mo or as good as he can in his old role. He would have been a good choice last year. Though the amount of time hall keeps our D on the field for... agree with you on that one. the times they are a changing.

Beating an eastern division team in the regular season is like the globetrotters beating the generals.
-
I would take him now over when the argos dug up the corpse of andre rison. As a player ive always liked TO. The dude has always been in phenomenal shape. I doubt he would be the worst wr in the league if he came to the cfl. That said they way Edm recruits wrs and the quality of the top half of their guys I dont really get it. he certainly wont come cheap. Grab a guy like grant for less, he even fits their size quota. Bond to edm? Fantastic move for them. Bond at tackle? Im not sold. I do believe based on talent and level of play alone he could start at guard for any team in the league.
-
4 fumbles in 4 years. He isnt the best at catching em clean not doubt, but thats a premium these days sadly. Not many return men seem to get the importance of just catching each punt in the air. fogg ended up the guy because after mcduffies time here he went to the nfl. We dressed both and had them both return both duties at several points for the partial year they were together.

after the performance by streveler I think not.

That would be great, though I worry about rust. Didnt lafrance miss basically all of camp? Cant make the club from the tub (unless you are a QB or a NI) Idk Thompkins isnt just another replacement WR. He isnt, l'damian washington. This guy can make plays as a wr at the highest level. Maybe he pans out maybe he doesnt. But bowman was targeted twice and didnt get any catches. If Flanders isnt back and lankford is out who we work into the offense, and lafrance isnt a known commodity yet maybe it is thompkins. Mo coming back would be the best case scenario imo. Itd be nice to carry the extra DB (though jones did play pretty well when he rotated in) But if mo isnt ready, it could be one of the rookie dbs too. priester, cooper, or sayles. Those are teams guys too. My money would be on thompkins or more likely another db like cooper. Some one to rotate in more often to give fogg rest who does double return duties. I think Wild when ready will come in for wilson. he looked great in camp and good in pre season, but JSK with bighill was the best one two wil mac combo weve had in aaaaggeeessss. Jsk was flying around and made soo many plays. I dont see wilson rotating a lot, and wild is a big time leader and teams guy.

Great catch, you can see him reach back and pull it away from the db. That pass went to behind his left shoulder, on the DBs side. It should have gone over him to the right shoulder. If thrown perfectly, he could have caught it and turned right up field. He makes a great play. Gale gets the ball in the catch radius range of the WR fairly well. But his ball location with in the catch radius is all over the place. Qbs soo accurate with great touch who can throw a rope over a wr like that and down into his hands so it leads him up field with out breaking stride are rare. (that is truly great accuracy, joe montana stuff.) Nichols would have lofted it up and over and led him to the side line. Pretty safe from a turn over. Gale slings it. Kinda danny mac like. if you slow the video speed down to .50 its much easier to tell.

jeepers mini kevin glenn in a faction of the time. His wrs made a TON of plays for him in those clips. See dbs gambling on risky passes etc. Didnt have a chance on the first sack (ole!) but the next he should have felt the pressure. All in all it is what it is. He is our 3rd string qb. Some one who was out of football. I bet vernon adams salary is why we arent after him. Ill take gale, and ill take him over douchrant, fever, and the rest of the cast off FA qbs pretty much. (i do like cato but he's probably ruined from montreal)

As in, every team has that one guy. Edm is made up of those guys. But every team has atleast one. Vert, arm length hand size etc a lot of measurable play into jump balls. Height is certainly one of them, but it isnt the biggest one imo. In theory halls defense should do better against jump balls, but most teams toss em past the point our DBs flip their hips, speed turn and follow the wr. Every team in the league has known the location of the holes in our D for years. This year they will be a bit different, but still there. What worries me more then jump balls is amount of cushion we give past the first down marker. The frequency of 2nd and longs converted because we are playing too deep. If we did a better job of defending first down yardage on second and more then 6 yards Id be fine with halls defense. Not my idea of optimal D strategy but good none the less. Nearly every starting QB will complete the 2nd and 7-15 range passes to wrs under coverage at a very high percentage. The qbs that dont, we could beat with any form of defense.
-
Right now, what was once a 50/50 ball is more like a 20/80 ball. The wrs get away with flagrant push offs, pulls on dbs jerseys etc. And dbs dont get away with jack. They dont even have the right to occupy the space their body takes up in the air. Its like every WR is lebron james and every DB is some D league scrub. Combine that with the fact that most dbs are 5'10 ish and every team has that one guy whose 6'4 ish And even that 20/80 ball that used to be 50/50 is now 95/5 at best.

Its not just this year 😛
