First week of fall GDT: non-Bomber bye week games
wbbfan replied to TrueBlue4ever's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
46 posts in 3 ish years. 1/4 of his posts have been this weekend in this thread. mia 2 weeks then back with a similar flurry over 2 days. Almost all his posts are in our GDTs and its talking about the riders. I certainly wouldnt say thats a consistent presence. If any thing id say you got him and foxcreek swapped. Hes been consistent, respectful to the champs and mostly pleasant for a 4 stripe. -
You might be right im not sure now. Looks like it was both, he had an MRI done on his shoulder and elbow.

Reilly used to be a serious running threat. People forget how effective he was as a runner early on. His two biggest rushing games, around 100 yards each came against us. He isnt the guy who is gonna run for 600 or 700 yards in a season any more. But he still has mobility. If he tried to run like that against us Itd be a quick end to his night. He is tough to bring down, and he will look to throw first. But in the last 2.5 seasons hes been sacked a whole lot more then in the majority of his career. 100%. And his shoulder is no way tip top either. From what ive seen this year he is trying to protect it more than normal. He used to have that buck pierce mentality. But now he's 36 and banged up, getting cortisone before every game.

How come we only see you here after rider wins you were real mia after ldc and bjb. And in the discussion about ac Leonard. We had some interesting talk about dirty and hated players league wide that could've used input from other teams. Through half of the season with more games played than any one we handled the whole league and the riders in the home and home. So yeah reason for high optimism for the defending Champs. Give em the respect they've earned have at least a little class. -

I think you are confusing the attitude on this board with the attitude on the riders board every single year. Being an unstoppable juggernaut means some thing when you are the defending champion. Nothing guarantees success. But every week we focus on going 1 and 0. And nothing changes that. -
He will be back to the ir when they face us again

If you aren't first your last. In 2019 the Bombers were the best team and injuries derailed things. Then we got healthy just in time. The riders at their best are handily behind the current banged up Bombers. -

3 games this week. 1 was on weds and one starts at 930. Schedule maker is making our kickers this year look like medlock. Holy F$#K cfl get it together. I especially loved this area in the documentary "The Hills Have Eyes" had some great local actors too. -

Not wrong, but I actually though the riders were gonna bounce back last week. The turn over in Tor, the lack of consistent qbing, and the riders getting smashed in the 2 biggest regular season games back to back. It was a perfect set up for them to bounce back at home. I think the riders will battle the stamps with maier at qb for 3rd place. I montreal will still enjoy a weak back half schedule and ride that to a home play off game. I dont think we see a cross over team, instead we see tor mtl and ham in the play offs. -

Not to mention the week 1 reilly / qb debacle. If they had the Reilly playing that whole game they win that game. The rookie threw a bad pick 6 iirc. Even though reilly wasnt playing that great in week 1 he was still that much better. I think the biggest thing thats gonna hurt the lions against us is their trenches. That DL is green as hell. Their front 7 in general is not great. And they have no running game. Theyve given up some big sack games too. I like how they match up vs the riders, but I also like how we match up against them. -
Yep. And IIRC he's missed 6 weeks on the 6 game IR so hopefully the bombers/media gets us an update this week at TC if he isnt back. Yeah carrying a DI who doesnt do all the roles at a high level is a tough pill to swallow. Though realistically, the DI would be another DL/LBers for teams and rotation on the DL. Pretty much.

agree 100%. Legs should just need time to settle in. Kicking is crazy hard mentally. Instead of 40-60 snaps on offense / defense you get maybe 10 kicks a game including kick offs and XPTs. The wind in the BJB really seemed to mess with both kickers. At the game it didnt feel like it was a 1 direction thing either, it was frequently gusting and swirling. I worry a bit that all 3 jobs might be too much for him to pick up at once, but maybe the frequent reps at many jobs help to calm him down and recover from misses. I cant say. I think he needs some coaching up in terms of kick offs and directional punting. But that might be some thing he gets in the off season. A lot of kickers and punters work with other guys in their areas in the off season and thats a really big time when kickers sharpen their tools. We are also extremely lucky that unlike previous years we dont need our kicking game to be lights out in order to compete. Right now our offense is productive and our defense is soo dominant the STs are really complimentary. I do hope we see some improvement this year though. It wouldnt be bad if they could pick up a Kicker/punter coach to come in and train legs up. Boudreau is more of a kick cover, and kicking game plan coach. Its like having an OC that isnt a QB coach and wasnt a QB, with a young qb, and no QB coach.

Agree. The riders have trouble cashing in TDs, and the lions D has been 2nd best at giving up points. The lions by contrast are a strong scoring offense and the riders D is not stout especially in the secondary. I think this game is where we see the second divide form in the west. With the lions firmly in 2nd place. -

Of course. Adaptability is plops greatest weakness. If I was desjardin or above Id go to plop and if he didnt want to pivot to a developmental game plan Id can him. Have dyce or wylie take over as HC, and steve walsh (No relation to bill walsh) take over as OC. -

The two teams with the best QB depth became teams with the worst QBing, out side of ott. I wonder if Kevin Glenn is gonna make an appearance this year. -
I havent seen 1 snap that wouldve caused medlock to miss. Ali cant hit from the hashmarks. Legs, I think he just struggled with the wind. Id love to see a clip example of a snap that some one thought cost our kicker a clean attempt. Or a hold. As of yet I havent seen the holder or snapper equivalent of what our kickers have been doing. Dropping the ball and snapping it way high or out side.

100%. -
We wouldve had a chance to win the Tor game. 7 point game we missed 2 fgs. But 1 of the issed fgs set up a TD for Tor. Thats a 13 point swing. We also had a brutal 36 net yard punt average, and our kick off distance was the worst for any team this year. 56 yard average kick off on 5 kick offs. Toronto averaged 70 yards per kick off. That game was the classic medlock is the difference between winning and losing example. Our offense had its worst performance of the year, and our defense gave up the most points it has in forever. But we were still close enough that average kicking might have won it. Medlock wouldve easily won it.

Long time ago I heard a variation of a business joke told about football. A new coach is hired to try and right the ship of an under performing team. Before the old coach leaves he gives the new coach 3 envelopes and tells him; "when things get bad, open one read it and follow the instructions." The new coach mostly forgets about the envelopes. The season starts out ok but a losing streak ensues and the team is maligned by the media. Remembering the letters he goes and opens the first, it says; "Blame the media." The next day the coach holds a press conference and blames the medias harsh criticism for his teams under performing. The media backs off a bit and the players are able to relax a bit more. At first they do better but before long they are back to their losing ways. After a couple months the media is back on him and the team harder than ever. So he goes and opens the 2nd envelope. It says; "blame the fans." The next day at a press conference he blames the lack of fan support. "It feels like every game is an away game, we have no home field advantage!" After that the fans come out in droves, but are quick to turn on the team and its coach with every slight miss step. Now feeling more pressure than ever and hearing rumors of the team replacing him with his assistant mid season, he goes and opens the last envelope. It says; "Prepare 3 envelopes." Desjardin should prepare 3 envelopes. Plop Isnt far behind Desjardin. He should go to the president with an envelope that says, I blame Desjardin. -
One more bad game from our kickers and fans are gonna start bringing horses to try and sell to the team.

Those poor kids got more going for them then that cmon lol. Their qbing this year looks like the guy who started the season in FNL but after the injury. Id bring in jamel lyles to the RBs too. Dedmon, rj harris and coombs as primaries. DJ foster rotate with lyles and use some 2 back set, move coombs around like we do with demski. Even try petey in that role. With jana they'd have great depth at NI wr and ability to rotate guys or start extra NIs. It'd be a versatile and dynamic balanced offense. Christion could run some streveler type option stuff. Roll extra bodies to protect him and hodges. Slowly develop plays for each of them. Run it like pre season give em 10-15 plays that they've practiced and are tailored to their strengths. If things start to get ugly toss davis to the wolves. -

There isn't an air lift big enough to fix them. Either you try to trade for a guy like mbt Arbuckle or Masoli or you dedicate to developing the two rooks on the pr. If I was them I'd try to trade for either of Toronto rbs ****** terrell Jana off the riders pr and try to get a back up guard from another team that's really good in the run game. -

A murder. They'd do a murder. That's why we don't play them. That whole franchise would collapse and fold under the weight of one game vs our d. -

Soo twice ish in 40 years. Not odds Id want to bet on. I have a feeling no matter what ott does or doesnt do it's going to be a dumpster fire next year too. We've had some good ones over the years. Hands of stone cloman is one of my favorites too. At this rate our kicking game this year is going to merit such a moniker.
