  1. The story i remember from wicks dad among others was taman was sent to scout wick. At the Sac state pro day. He was then exposed to blink and called back to richie, not having much ability to actually offer contracts and grabbed both. Why they didnt grab ray we will never know. If you remember the release from when we signed blink it was pretty massive. Normally then, even now they are paragraph blurbs. This was like a page and a half on blink.
  2. I think thats the optimistic side as well. I think plenty of people would be happy to have flanders flanker role expanded, and more 2 back set with harris and flanders. Demski i very much want. And i want JFG back too. As to your prior comment about taman not having any thing around him, let us not forget an era when we didnt have money to employ QB coaches even. Taman did some crazy stuff. And made some poor decisions. But he also scouted and signed the likes of blink and wick. Our franchise has come miles and miles from what it used to be. It wouldnt be possible if not for what taman and bauer did. But idk if those two could shape it into what we have now.
  3. Fogg makes some great plays. But his reliability is awful. If he ever figures it out he will be all world.
  4. I hope thats not the case, but if it is as good as heath is gaitor is a better fit imo. With our system we need dbs who are strong tacklers.
  5. Yeah i know, it was. Its kinda split since rodrigo munduruca left for his own BJJ school, though he isnt in the city so much any more. He has kind of settled into this satellite teachers role. Setting up gyms here, edm, la (iirc) etc When he was at CFC it was an incredible gym. The godfather is an excellent stand up coach though. Cfc has been mma since like 2009, and around in stand up since 02 not that old, but there just isnt much else for mma in winnipeg. I found a lot of conflicting reports on the amount lost so idk. Either way you cut it it was super rich guys losing a lot of money to us, but not as much as the pride lost to them. Not a wrestling guy at all, but jim ross was a bright spot.
  6. At the same time, randle wasnt randle good when we signed him. He was ridiculously good in low use, the stamps just didnt have room for him. Love the pick up, the perfect age range to be a long term guy here. All the talent and athletic ability you could want. I liked our DB field year before last year a lot. Last year I felt we took a big step backwards at a couple spots. This is a big step forward.
  7. Idk why i had acl on the brain. My bad. Achilles is worse actually. An average recovery time closer to a year, regularly double digit weeks before the boot can even come off and before recovery can begin etc. http://lermagazine.com/article/return-to-football-after-achilles-tendon-rupture TLDR pray for mo. When atheists say that things are grim. Id love nothing more then to have mo back to being mo. Id rather see him go on to success else where then see him retire in a whimper from such an injury. Weve had soo many big play, much loved defensive guys with bad attitudes and selfish play. But mo makes all the plays. Big, small mo likes them all. Never puts him self above the team, never too big to fill any role. Idr any S going to Sam and playing out of their mind good at both. Hes what bomber football and this organization are about.
  8. Im talking the likes of CFM, ones based out of mb. werent both cfc and ucw based out side of the city but held events here? Money in mma in general is a huge problem. off season mode engaged!!!!!!!!
  9. Yeah idk how it is now but they used to be areal stick in the mud. Given the ufc coming here I imagine some people with money either greased them or strong armed them into not being stupid.
  10. I freaking loved the empire international pictures movies in general. Trancers, Re-animator, robot jox, from beyond etc. Those movies perfectly sum up the era for me.
  11. Some events yes. A few fly by night small timers. In general I think we need a good true grass roots system. starting with amateur people training in the city. A pro regular event would draw and help develop that type of thing. Winnipeg is a rough area, lots of people identify with the rougher sports. When i used to go to various sports bars for UFCs it was allways packed no matter where i went. I think brock was the right guy at the right time. Such a phenomenal athlete, A giant of a man, in the early stages of mma where he could have success. I dont think youd get that cross over any more. every one is exposed to mma now, and a guy like brock would be hard pressed to have a great deal of success. Its off season, I dont think off topic exists till atleast free agency. I think any league that lasts more then a year is likely to up cycle guys who would have fallen through the cracks. And lasting more then a season is pretty good success. I dont think any one stands much of a chance of lasting for good though. I think to do that they have to transcend into a cultural part of america. Like the cfl has up here. Like wrestling once was. But I expect to see them try to be flashy n make splashes instead. If the XFL is gonna start up in say 2 years, Id look to lock up FAs next year to 2 year deals. Give the NFL window and all. But I would start to prepare to prevent the XFL from grabbing a bunch of CFL FAs.
  12. Not soo bad. Drop in the bucket compared to this: https://www.forbes.com/sites/danalexander/2014/05/16/wwe-ceo-vince-mcmahon-no-longer-billionaire-after-losing-340-million-in-a-day/#3a2cee445d49 Yeah i had heard that about TUF and the wwe. Pretty crazy. As a mma fan im glad it worked out. Though ive never watched tuf. Thats kind a crazy considering the old ufc to wwe cross over guys. Speaking of those cross over guys thats an interesting story. As an mma fan its too bad that didnt take off. We need some grass roots help in the area. Especially considering how the ufc does here. I sure would have come out to see Dan severn.
  13. Ah kk I thought it was nbc but i wasnt sure. I did hear that vince very much wanted to continue it but the broadcasters and partner pulled out. Some thing like 180m dollars lost in one season or some thing crazy? If they wanted to make a good run of it, I think they'd make a show to go with it. Kinda like the ultimate fighter, meets last chance U.
  14. Depends on what you mean by work. In the same way the nfle and usfl and the first go round of the AFL worked at recycling talent and serving to give another chance to guys who would have fallen out of football for sure. Could one last for good? Idk i wouldnt bet on it. Agree on the upward trajectory of the quality of the game and production as it wore on. It jumped the shark then turned it around but too late.
  15. + high school football. If any thing football in america is a saturated market.
  16. Wasnt the primary partner for vince and the XFL a major network? The usfl was probably the most successful indy league out side of the cfl. Apparently the UFL ran for 4 seasons. Cuban was supposed to own a team but backed out.
  17. Where do you get that from? Middle of oct. means 4 monthes to recover from a blown ACL. Normal is 7-9 monthes for a pro athlete. But at that its not just getting back to being healthy, its about how diminished your ability to cut, stop, and explode is after recovery. https://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/nfl/2012/12/06/acl-injuries-adrian-peterson-nfl-minnesota-vikings/1752355/ The repairs come with no guarantees. Doctors at the Richmond Bone and Joint Clinic in Sugarland, Texas, found in 2010 that 31 of 49 (63%) of NFL players studied returned to play in the league an average of 10.8 months after surgery. Adrian peterson was one of the fastest acl recoveries and his was still north of 6 monthes. https://www.theguardian.com/sport/2017/may/11/acl-injuries-sports-athletes-careers A great recent article on it. It might actually make sense to look at mo going back to saftey post injury.
  18. again the concern, more then him being a FA is if he will be able to recover. ACL over 30 is about as bad for your career as several concussions.
  19. No kidding eh. I wonder is the XFL the least successful start up pro football league in history? The USFL played what 4 years? They produced a few HOFers as well. The NFLE lasted a long while, didnt produce a ton of star power but a few guys. The AFL stuck in various versions of it self for a long while and produced a couple guys too. Did AFL2 out last the xfl as well?
  20. I think we will go into camp with JSK and wild at mlb and wlb. Sam is gonna be the question mark.
  21. Dont agree with the sentiment to other sports. Im not a hockey guy, so i cant speak to that. In the NBA and MLB guys finish their contracts and STILL arent free agents. In baseball a TON of guys are straight up sold every single year. No doubt, in the nba the players have more power then in any other sport. At the same time the top tier probably make more from endorsements then contracts. Even more so with rookie - 2nd deal max stars. See lonzo ball. A high level basketball player seeking to become a NBA player is used more then any other sub pro imo. The junk that is the sponsored tournys HS kids get sent to all over the US is sickening. The amount of money made while the kids pay to travel, lodge etc. Years of service in baseball create the most restrictive FA in all of sports. Not to mention compensatory picks for players who become a FA who are actually good. TLDR, valuing a commodity higher and restricting them in different ways doesnt make them any thing other then a commodity.
  22. hes talking about his ability to earn per year. working 1 hr a day for 6 monthes would have a TON of people in north america ruined and homeless. Tons of people work out or train 5 days a week or more. And still hold down full time jobs. You cant complain about supporting your family on the amount you earn in a year when you only fill up half your time. Plenty of CFLers have held down jobs in the off season, some very high level careers.
  23. Yes it does. when talking about earning power, it totally matters. Demetrius johnson was working at a best buy (iirc) while being champion and one of the best p4p fighters in the world. And kept training, Lots and lots of athletes do it. Especially in the cfl. Off season training is not the full on time consumption that is the regular season. Not even close. I hope it does improve. If any one is gonna do it, its mlse. Id like to see the bar raised league wide to be even with top. Wilder is an un real talent. But he seems kinda soft. He doesnt have that consistent willingness to lower his head and push the pack. If he ran with the effort and determination of harris or messam he'd shatter the single season rushing record with an un godly YPC. If he doesnt find that, I dont think he is going to stick back in the nfl.
  24. What you are missing is the ability to work in the other 6 monthes. You can easily still train as an athlete and work while out of competition. Like Olympians do, like amateur boxers do, many ufc and pro mma fighters, body builders, strong men, etc.
  25. He should try a strategy that gets him more then 2 sacks total after week 3. Hes like joe first half flemming, but instead of the first half of each game hes a monster for the first couple games then MIA.
