  1. NI O linemen are like left handed relief pichers in baseball. As long as they have 2 feet and a heart beat someone will give em a shot.
  2. Id rather see us stick an olineman back to return kicks then either of those guys. I like washington as a player, but both of these guys are keith stokes at best returning the ball.
  3. thats a really interesting spread sheet. The 2nd column, 2nd and short conversions is really the killer of our offense atm. Im not sure how much of that is OL and how much is play calling. Not to mention a couple blow outs that leave us chucking instead of establishing drives.
  4. At this point i dont expect to ever see either of these guys or muamba in blue.(again) Hard as it is, since any or all of these guys would be game breaking/franchise changing, i hope them the best. Id love to see them in pro bowl games making headlines. It makes the canadian pipe line soo much better and brings much better talent to the league. Just look at how drastic the NI pool has improved in the last 10 years.
  5. Id take him in a heart beat. But its more fun to talk about long done players that we will never see. Bring Back Mike Sellers! Willie Reaves is still in pretty good shape... wade miller comming down from the office but dont call it a come back! Taman would demand a couple neglisters to prolly. That would be a crazy spot to be in with all the Rbs once cotton is healthy. They would probably try to squeeze them all in to the roster too, and not use any of them well.

  7. If we are looking at a retread... Korey Sheets would be my first choice of these three... I bet charles roberts is in almost the exact same shape as he played in...
  8. thats pretty impressive for some one with average strength...
  9. I hate this side of sports. I doubt popp fired higgins to save his own job. I doubt even media/fan demands to win now prompted it. Smells to me of popp thinking he can actually turn it around. Since trestman left they have been a circus in the coaching ranks. The als arent even a terrible team. They have several good young pieces to build around. They arent 100% out of it like the riders are, and could be a very good team with building this year and a good off season. I hate the premature firing of coaches. Higgins is a good cfl mind. He isnt don mathews or wally buono. Hes not my favorite coach by any means, but he is a guy you can build a winning team with. If you trust in him enough to hire him, and go about the hiring process properly you shouldnt need to fire a guy mid season. (unless he goes nuke mode) Give the guy a chance give the young players a chance and build on it. The als where a dominant force in the cfl. And I think the best thing to happen to the cfl in the 2000s. Soo much of our NI talent in this league is out of QB. Teams like laval raised their level to a point it forced other teams in the cis to match. Rebuilds dont have to happen over night, and you dont have to tear down good pieces just to start over. Im sure higgins will land on his feat. Would have him back working for the league to sort out some of the rule changes any day of the week. Wonder if this is where plop will go.
  10. any OL not named chung or bryant. Though i think all three co ordinators are the biggest problem.
  11. this was an awesome game. i kind of feel like people kinda slept on fred reid with kind of a charles roberts hang over. I sure feel like i did. This games up there with the milt td to beat edmonton, khari to arland bruce come back in calgary, and just under kerwin bell passing the ball to little kerwin in the end zone as an argo.
  12. didnt we go through this enough last year. (late in the year, goal line, and we go shot gun) Im sure the wagons will be circling MB and we will see lots of calls for his job. Generally i dont think firing an oc/dc mid season makes a huge difference. As they have designed the system and you cant really change it mid season with any good effect. but MB play calling is soo bad im not sure it could do any actual harm.
  13. Danny Barrett was a decent coach and a pretty good QB in his day, but he treated media and fans like they were invading Nazis. I think we talked about this last year or the year before. Danny is a RB coach at UCF. Apparently he's making decent money. Ahh thanks . can we fault him, he was in regina after all.... lol I wonder if DB was the real mind behind the O in sask with MB was there.
  14. QFT even when we had strong teams, and strong passing games (KG, khari) we have had some real bad o lines, aside from early khari days weak rec cores and some weak Ds.
  15. Im sure we will bring in some nfl cuts, if they see any game time this year would be up in the air. Chances of an air lift bringing in some one who is plug and play and helps out this year is slim. Unless its a former cfler.
  16. On D, you gap cancel and have the ends play contain. Having some one spy the qb would help too. It pretty much puts you into zone coverage though. Usually you try and get as much pressure as possible on a rookie qb, marve is a very good runner, but i dont think weve seen how he responds to getting hit. Id show blitz a lot and drop, switch up blitzing and contain, use layers of zone (robber) and match zone to keep him from getting comfortable doing any thing. On O, Establish the run. Especially with cam marshall. A lot of teams tend to go max protect, or use some one in the TE/h-back spot for constant blocking. It never seems to work very well (imop) as teams dont usually have great blocking backs or actual te's. Id use the two back set weve been talking about all year. Lots of play action, some draws, shovel pass, block and release patterns, hitch screens etc. Short quick passes and lots of pressure release valves. Id mix in some roll outs with crossing patterns as well.
  17. soo many awful choices on that list. Idk how people forget about plops offesnive play calling soo quickly. Worse then MB imop. Id promote buck pierce for the rest of the season, and do some serious searching for a good OC who can run a CFL offense in the off season. That said if MB gets canned mid season I think they promote buck and then turn him into full OC in the off season. Thats assuming we dont clear house in the coaching staff, which i dont think happens this year or off season. Any one know what danny barret is up to?
  18. He looks like the same shape as when he played. as for being in game shape, thats a bit of a stretch...
  19. I can see marve keeping us in the play off race late and having debate on who should start late late in the season or play offs. Him or a less then 100% willy. And an off season of pondering his bolting to the nfl.
  20. DId he talk about the 84 grey cup? Hes the 80s version of kerwin bell to me.
  21. if we arent going to make good use of the 2 back system i wouldnt be against sitting one for a week. But it does make more sense to just start 7 nucks and 4 imp wrs. JFG has been very underwhelming thus far this year, and I like veltungs returning better. Stoudemire is the same as washington back there. He could break a big one at any time. But mostly theyll run 40 yards to get 5 and risk a loss, while not giving great ball security. I miss the days of returners running up and catching the ball in the air at any opportunity for the 15 yards. Seeing a ball hit the turf with in 5 yards on a returner flat on his heels pisses me off.
  22. I think this is mainly because a power back needs to bang away to continue getting yards and wear down a D. A scat back can make as good a play late and they can early. But a power back will get stronger with each carry. Didnt marcel design and call the plays on the offense sask had when they ran both corey holmes and kenton kieth? That offense was creative and dynamic and made great use of 2 talented backs.
  23. Some thing ive been thinking about since week 1, thought id throw it out there. It seems to me that cam marshalls' game is much more suited to being the no1 back for us. His ability to bang through contact and push the pile really needs more touches to be effective. A change of pace back is generally more of a quick/agile guy as its easier to come in and scoot around people in less touches then to try and establish physicality in few touches. The I think itd be better for the OL, getting to pound defenders instead of trying to keep and eye out and be ready to disengage to slide to a new guy/spot that needs blocking. We'd wear down defences more by hitting them instead of getting hit. Just a thought i wanted to see if any one had an opinion on. Its no knock on cotton, hes very talented. And id love to see more use of both guys in the back field at the same time as cotton is a much better reciever out of the back field. I know mike sellers and charles roberts wasnt run this way. But blink was head and shoulders more talented and dangerous then mike was, and i dont think cotton has near that kind of edge if any over marshall.
