The Most Important Passing Stat - 2nd Down Yardage?
wbbfan replied to BigBlue's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
Never been a fan of QBR. Its not an advanced metric but offensive TDs per game, plays per drive, and red zone % are favorites of mine. Its impossible to have a metric show you purely the efficiency of a qb. Football isnt like baseball or basketball. There are too many factors out of the qbs control. You can throw a perfect pass and have it kholert'd to a defender and get a pick. You can throw the ball right to a defender and have it dropped, or have a wr make a crazy play. You can have an OL turnstile and get hit as your throw on a quick timing route etc. If the offense is healthy, especially in the cfl, the qb is being efficient. Time of possession can be skewed by running plays, hurry up offense, big plays, screen passes etc. Thats why I like plays per drive. Its not a qb stat, its a healthy offense stat. When you suffer frequent bouts of 2 and outs it drops that number like a rock. You of course have to temper it with big plays. If you constantly rely on big plays for your offense thats a big factor in few drives per play. But not being able to chunk out yards makes it hard to win games you dont blow out. Tds are tds. If you rush 70 yards on 5 plays then play action pass 1 yard for the major it doesnt matter. Or vice versa. The offense worked if you moved the ball and scored. TLDR; no single stat will give you a best view of qbs. Each qbs worst statistical are is probably the best point to compare and locate issues. -
smith isnt mcf either.
-
Except lber the wide open lber spot we have. Knox may have had an inside track knowing the system and coaches better but smith would at worst be no2 going into camp. I imagine that cut was to do with some thing other then talent.
-
carr is a qb, and smith is a lber.
-
He played very well in hammy in limited action.
-
A few of these guys like smith arent tcf. And TCF is just that, training camp fodder. This was mini camp.
-
He was yes, but its soo bush it makes AFL2 look like monday night football. I cant tell if the season ran, or is yet to run, cant find any schedule, results, etc. Guess thats to be expected from a league that offered room and board for playing xD. Found some clips on YT. The web site still doesnt have updated season info but the most recent upload was 2 weeks ago.

some real head scratchers here. Especially carr, and smith.
-
Yes, but of the 4 different shows hes done with a similar lay out id say lay over is 2nd best.
-
Just watched the lay over on netflix. Im a big anthony bourdain fan, its not as good as parts unknown but its very similar and very good.
-
hes a fairly long term ex pat with a funky half and half accent. Im wondering if he speaks with his full american accent from soa, his half and half mess or if he puts on a full accent.
-
If it wasnt for the positive exposure we get from guys going south we wouldnt see near the same serge in talent in the draft that we have the last few years. Not to mention the cahoon esq americans that come up more and more. Time in NFL camps for young guys can be really good too. The amount of man hours they invest in positional training dwarfs what we do up here. Imagine these guys getting a camp and all having some one like bob wylie for their position, some of the most successful players in the world at that position, not to mention the athletic training, dietitians etc. The first days rookie stuff teams put players through to adjust to life as a pro athlete can be worth its weight in gold too. The value of that experience is of course limited compared to actually getting a chance to play. Guys sitting around on PRs and waiting for deals for a couple years is awful. Pretty much. Im hoping for 2 of judge, colling, vandevoort, and behar. But OL depth is allways good.
-
nice, i saw that and figure ill check it out at some point. Does not jaxx talk in an accent? I watched GOTG 2 tnite. It was pretty good. Certainly better then most of the marvel 2.0 movies. The post credit scene is a real nerd-gasm moment. I really like some of the new supporting roles. This felt more like a intro to the guardians (star lord any way) and a .5 movie then a sequel. But knowing the direction of the MCU and where the gotg 2 is situated i get why they did the movie this way. Over all a must watch for marvel fans. Solidly in the top of the 2nd tier of marvel movies.

I think the top portion of that is the right guys. Assuming judge doesnt sign in the next couple days. Atleast 1 team will go off the board, and 1 team will gamble on an nfl guy. Imop the difference between the guys under 5 on that list or so are a tier and a half minimum below the nfl guys. Ie if i had a choice between mulumba and a gamble on ankou or gray id gamble. Also if we came out of it with judge and colling or behar id be beyond thrilled. Of those guys i think herdman or luke have the best chance to slide well down the draft.

Dont our drafted guys like butcher not count towards that? Guys who got drafted but went back to school. Either way I dont think the number of bodies in camp is a big deal. Its not a matter of a team getting a competitive edge or hiding guys from other teams. -
Ed Tait...Mini Camp Preview (and) Reports
wbbfan replied to Mr Dee's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
Mini camp for qbs isnt a great tool for evaluation. No rush, 1 on 1s etc. It covers up some weak spots and hides some strengths. For instance throwing deep balls with no rush, and only 1 on 1 is nothing like tossing deep in games. While with out the rest of the field an athletic QB doesnt get much of any chance to shine. Its more about getting new guys a basic understanding of the system / cfl game, and seeing how they progressed since the coach call / end season meeting. Accurate possession offense qbs like nichols and lefevour will allways out perform some one like davis in a mini camp / 1 on 1s type drill. Short of some one stinking it up to an epic degree i wouldnt look too hard at the performance level of qbs till after the first pre season game. Davis has played soo little football in soo very long i dont know how any one can expect a lot of him right now. more then any one else he needs a good number of pre season reps. -
still wouldnt be as one sided as the willy trade you might wanna skip the cfl draft then, picks made were on twitter n junk like 5minutes before they were made. Its soo long and drawn out too. I like drafts, but I think they would all be improved if they were sped up like 400%.

I could see judge having a good impact as a rotational / package guy right away as well as on team. The package in particular last year that hurl came in on to get an extra imp db on the field. I like collings too. Hes in the top tier of chance to be in camp in the first round this year imop. His impact would be similar on defense. In that he would rotate with Jake. He would have a better chance to take the starting job for sure. But wouldnt be nearly as impact full on teams. I also like butcher in that roll. And judge would probably be our best NI lber right away, plus give us the ability to start a NI there if needed. It will be interesting to see what we do. There is a lot of risk on the board and a few guys that will have atleast 1 or 2 teams kicking them self for gambling. The amount of talent available in the top 15 has soo little drop off (including gambles). if we draft as well as last year we are going to be in an incredible position NI wise for years to come.

http://www.bluebombers.com/2017/04/27/mini-camp-feature-alex-chisum/ that story about chisum and megatron is gold. -
yeah hes got great football instincts, work ethic, and is out of this world athletically for a NI. On top of that hes a guy who relishes playing teams. He would have scored among the best ranks at the combine this year, save for the bench.
-
IMOP if judge was willing to sign a 2-3 year deal hed be worth the first over all imop.

a guy like him can easily make the nfl to play teams alone though. his size would work as a back up saftey as well.
