Around The League Off Season Discussion

you are worried about 32 in the cfl? how many great seasons have we seen from guys pushing near 40 in the cfl? Franklin is in no way proven enough to risk a season on. you dump franklin and miss a beat and its game over. IF edm was fallen apart or had lost a ton of pieces (like ott) and were looking at rebuilding / retooling then maybe you take that gamble. Hoping to expedite the process of rebuilding. but that isnt the position edm is in. -

its like the early 2ks don matthews led als. Except with out any of the success. And some how more hated. -
The nose spot does exist in the cfl, it isnt the most popular atm right now how ever. Really with him I think you have to look long and hard at if you want to change your system to make use of him, and if he will be around / around long enough to be worth while. I really do like his talent though. But i think hes gone to the nfl for atleast a year or two to start.

wasnt the talking point vandervoort not ni wr it self? With simonise out certainly been a long while since a NI wr had the polish and potential to go with it. I worry his cis game speed isnt going to translate as well as one would hope. You can find polished guy lower in the draft normally, but guys who have a heavy deficit in terms of athletic ability. If our scout team thinks hes going to translate well to the cfl athletically then i think his case for no1 would be much stronger. Especially if he will be in camp and soo many other top 5 guys wouldnt. I dont think their is much of a chance he comes into the league first year and produces on the fantuz/sinopoli level. If he produced right away like gore Id be shocked. one handed snag on a mid to deep route with out losing stride. That kind of concentration, with body control and great show of hands grabs my attention. Bugs me to no end when i see wrs body catch and alligator arm catches.

Fantuz isnt at all a good comparison. He came out 15 lean pounds heavier with similar speed. The difference between him and fantuz is as big as him and denmark weight wise. Cfl draft comparisons in general are extremely unfair. The difference in the athletic level of cis draft picks 11 years ago to now is gigantic. If you want to cherry pick you could compare addison richards to jason clermont when he came out. And favorably too. Simonize has great measurables, but so did richards etc. Each of these kids have to be evaluated as a stand alone. Weve seen lots of good wr prospects come out and fizzle in the last fist full of years. Of late it seems like one of the higher risk low reward positions. (at the top 2 rounds or so) Im not at all sold on him as a no 1 pick. But im a big fan of the value in drills and 1 on 1s. The fact he is in the combine is a + for me too. Especially now with simonise off the board. Vandevoort is handily the best wr in the draft and while others skip hes going. He also has fantastic hands which is a big plus for me too. He should at worst be a serviceable Ni wr. If hes a high motor guy with great hands itll be hard for him to fail.

I was more talking about over all league wide. I had no clue what his suspension was for personally xD no kidding. I wonder if its a true 4 year or 3 plus an option or some thing. Do they have recurring team options? Short of a top 10 player in the league including all none qb positions or a qb i cant see giving that term in the cfl. Too much changes too fast and the shelf life of football players is scary short. -

tbh i liked it better when recreational drugs were not tested for. I dont think peds is a huge problem in the league. -

that would be dope. ill show my self out. -
the sticking point with that is the returner. If mcduffie isnt brought back, and if fogg continues to be used more as a DB we have a spot to fill there before we have the best teams in the league.
-
Hes a real good teams guy. But with our NI depth on D and lber depth he is in tough. Id rather see him get reps at lber then hurl thats for sure. its a real nice pick up. Lber and sts are gonna be good this year, really really good.
-
not a lot of dim dbs last very long. Not since dave donaldson any way. It takes a lot to play S very well. But to play it at say a terry ray/hebert level not soo much. You can scheme and cover up for that for a brief while.
-
Pretty much. All in all its a good position to be in. All those good options in case a starting NI goes down. My personal top pick would be mo if its an extended injury, waggoner other wise, or pushing a DB back and moving the back ups up. Or a rotation of the last two. That all will really depend on how far a long waggoner is at the end of camp, and how the db battle breaks down. Fogg is a play maker and i could see him making a ton of plays at S, but also giving up a ton of big plays as well. A guy like frederick could be a great fit back there. he was soo sound in coverage last year.
-
yep. same here. Im still excited for woodley wonderboy but that was the real main event.
-
It was brought up before on here, when you develop a guy and he goes to the nfl then comes back a FA you should get some sort of compensation from the team that picks him up. After a while the draft rights are just like neg rights. Lots of vets down south have their cfl rights owned the same was as foucault. They spent the pick so it doesnt count against the NL. (from what i understand)
-
Mo could go back to S, we could go with an extra ni lber/dl then slide a db back and bring a di (fogg?) db into a starting spot, waggoneer/jones/morgan going in at S would probably be the move though. Looked good in very limited touches and had a solid pedigree running at laval. Really has to work on his hands out of the back field though if he is gonna be the primary back up. He incompleterson'd a few easy passed last year. Big fan of picking up miller for teams and depth too.

nnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo! Guy has never been able to stay healthy, i hated that this was an interim match but loved the match up of these two. this could really crush the ppv sales.
-
no kidding. If that was the case idk what we would do with the draft picks. Could we just use them to fill up a big tower and swim in them scrooge mcduck style?

par for the course here in bomber land during the off season. If the redundant talk of qb2, ni wr, etc are too tiring you can allways go back and look at the doom and gloom posts of the previous years and the half dozen holes we had lol. Or the first few weeks of the last few seasons jade etienne isnt a far better then any one. Poblah had tons of talent but couldnt stay healthy. The durant fall was surprising, but rumors abound about his being a head case. And this regime doesnt have interest in that kind of player. No matter how talented. Some thing every one here has heard. Link posted earlier in the thread. You show up out of the blue, sign up, just to rant and rave the contrary to a small part of a threads discussion. There is no proof that he is a head case. It was the rumor. And it fits. You came in with nothing but rants to the contrary with no facts your self demanding facts. If one thing is for sure, we know who the head case is. -
I remember at one point milt talked about doing that. Wouldnt be any less canadian then ben cahoon. Im kind of torn on the idea. But i think it would be used soo seldom it wouldnt be of much impact. At a quick glance the bombers that would be eligible would be bryant, denmark, dressler, medlock and randle. Some how denmark still wouldnt get any love. medlock would go up in desirability but not pay. dressler and bryant would make bank of it. I could see it extending the career of mid tier kicker/punters, making wrs and ol a good chunk more money and extending careers as long as bodies held up. I didnt include qbs cus ratio. If they did some thing like that id want to see the ratio go up to either 8 starters or more bench. But id also like to see more reward for 8 starting NI.

iirc durant fell a bunch because of being a head case. Which is the last thing this team wants. waud i think was pretty high percentile to go to the nfl for atleast a bit too. didnt we pass on durant twice? this is what i thought yeah. -
Yeah just saw this. The fact hes going up for a super fight when he could have had woodley is the last nail in the coffin of i dont think he can make lw. I like gsp and all. But man this is another zero integrity cash grab fight. I hate it. Especially with gsps lay off, and having not fought at this weight before going straight into a title match is BS. He will probably have a couple gym heater matches to tune up but still. Idk what would be worse. GSP winning and either being stripped of that belt, or having to defend it. Or bisping beating gsp. The match making is getting harder and harder to stomach in the ufc.

its typical back up hype logic. He hasnt failed yet, so he isnt a failure. He isnt a failure so hes a success in progress. This has got to be his make or break year. Back in the day with far less high end NI talent we managed guys like jaimie stoddard and markus howell. even guys like geoff drover. All of whom make the likes of jade and richards seem sad. -
Then you have special teamers and back ups that the team hopes never has to play.
