  1. Great coaches are seldom former great players. Most are guys like dinwiddie who didn’t pan out, had all the mental tools but not the physical ones. Great players often get the first shot at coaching but seldom pan out. Even mos here has always struggled with roster management and coming from a teams co spot has never owned an aspect of the playbook like plop or hall etc. he’s always succeeded with former hcs and decorated cos. He’s like a baseball bench boss more than a typical football hc.
  2. Premium pay for premium players at premium positions. When you pay premium cash to a guy who lack that you get in trouble. You can have one or two Canadians you pay a bit more to who are starters, but you can’t do that for all of them. At the end of the day you have to make up for paying super premium deals like qbs, lawler/schoen etc. and the way you do that is with young Canadians. If you get a good imp for a cheap deal they will be expensive or gone fast. Canadian roster filler is the primary place to save money. That’s just the economics of the league. We won ships on the back of cheap Canadians like Kongbo, desjarlais, Eli etc. flip that and make those guys expensive and suddenly you price your self out of the market and it’s a struggle just to keep some of your own free agents.
  3. I might die of shock tbh 6 of those guys played last week and finished the game, most have been walking wounded for a while doesn’t mean much. Mci played his best game last week and has been good for two weeks. If he’s healthy enough to go he isn’t coming off. qft. Idk what to expect from Garbutt having been out for 6 weeks either.
  4. We do, but we haven’t done much of that soo far. 2025 should be the plan, but I don’t think the mafia work that way. 30 for grant is probably our overall average starters age. we are at a point where it isn’t even about age, it’s about quality. Our worst players are really old. We can get younger and better at the same time by either going to a better player who wouldn’t be nearly as old or going to a young guy. Thomas, biggie, ba, kola, neuf all need to go. Even if they went for an average age of 29 we’d get a lot better and younger. keep in mind strevy is 30, lofton is 31, bonds is 28, then we just brought back lucky who is 32. Mainly we’ve gotten younger through rash of injuries. We’ve actually gotten older and some spots like db and qb. Don’t expect mci to come out. I doubt ogbevoen will be though he should.
  5. 100% the primary limiting factor with grant is health. I get that we needed a young guy who’d stay healthy. Imo, with grants salary we could’ve easily continued to bring him back for half a season and used the other half to develop a replacement. Like the deal we handed to kramdi, Zachs guaranteed money, and Brady’s deal, it isn’t the biggest issue with our roster decisions, but it is an issue. We could make a whole list of all those mistakes and rank them, grant probably wouldn’t be top5, but we certainly lost value and made our self worse for a tiny bit of money. The grant move hurts, jj hurts less due to his salary but our dl sure would’ve been better with him here.
  6. To a large extent that stuff is discipline from the coaching staff. Saskatchewans lack of discipline has been systemic from the top down.
  7. The 3dn articles on Mace and the riders are soo nauseating. Mace makes a brilliant move putting Harris on 6 game ir. Mace didn’t want riders to go un defeated. Mace schooled dinwiddie in first match up. Etc etc and it’s from all different writers.
  8. Yep, not a huge guy but plays with tremendous physicality, very explosive. I think he’d be good at any db spot or even wil/dime situationally. My big question with him is how healthy does he come back is what % is he at?
  9. The only reason we would need sheed now is the injury rash. If healthy our wr core of schoen Lawler Demski woli plus a rotation of lord Keric and Wilson plus clericius. If any thing in retrospect moving on from Lawler and keeping shred might’ve been prudent, but you can’t operate in retrospect. Grant still has it, but isn’t the entirety of what he used to be. Smith is giving us 25 and 10 ish on kr and pr with tons of upside and miles left on him for a rookie min deal. Hansen is a great guy and teams player. But our teams has been very good, meanwhile Hansen hasn’t been able to stay healthy and is a premium global salary. He’d be nice for sure but our teams guys plus hubert at de is more than sufficient. And gives us youth upside and cost savings. You can finger wave a lot of moves in the off season. These 3 aren’t strong cases.
  10. Should be s/sam. Parker was a brilliant Sam previously, Cole has played both as well. I’d put Cole at S and Parker at Sam. Realistically we stuck with worse dbs over Parker previously. Likely, griffin comes off as the dime if Parker comes back.
  11. Half a kramdi deal, 10k less than Augustine, what 15k more than the vet min? For a guy who would lead our none qbs in tds. Pretty good value imo.
  12. Modern qbs are doing that and throwing back against their body way more than you used to see. With the hash change you also see a lot more of these throws now.
  13. Yep. Riders are a mid tier team. Bc and mtl are on top, neither are run away monsters either. Then tor and ssk with tor in front, with Kelly back they might go into top tier. Next fringe play off tier is us, ott, and cal in a pickem. Then you have edm and ham. Edm I think could easily slide to the next tier and be above any of those teams. Ham is the clear bottom. Next week across the board is going to be real interesting Was he on a one year or multi year deal?
  14. Very true. The first snaps I saw from schoen he was waggling like he’d be up here 10 years. He did get used some in 0 motion in college too, but he’s a route running assassin, those guys generally pick it up faster.
  15. Speed is every thing for lbers these days. The later quicks to get gap to gap with out having to turn and run, and to be able to burst into the tackle. Getting off blocks is upper strength to an extent, but also technique and desire to get to the run. Even some of the good rookies struggled with getting washed out at time in pre season. And the thing is 205-215lbs guys can be real outliers. Clercius is a bit bigger but really really strong. When the job is to get off blocks rather than try to drive a block you don’t need de size.
  16. I mean he still had 200 plus yards and a td with a sick ypc in his first 4 games. And he was as good in pre season. As others have said it was just when he became the first option and got more touches that his numbers surged but still he was exceptional in that first stretch.
  17. 100% healthy Wilson, which he seems to be finally, is capable of shedding blocks and tackling backs one on one in the hole as we saw a few times vs the stamps. He can play Mac easily. Most teams don’t run big lber cores any more.
  18. I don’t think our injuries are worse than average this year actually. I do think every one’s injury numbers are up this year and In general up since Covid. Part of that is probably just the average age of starters. We had our share in 19/21/22, we just had great talent to replace guys with. I actually think we do this year too. The last reason we are losing is injuries.
  19. They have the most ppg while their offence is barely mid pack in terms of scoring tds. Mid pack in terms of giving up tds but one of the fewest points against. Middle of the pack in yards per play, fewest first downs given up. Giving up the most passing yards per game, and mid pack in yards given up on first down despite being the highest rated run stop D. Mid pack in passing tds given up, big plays given up, and bottom tier in sacks but top tier in qbr. The riders are the worst run team in the league and the worst at gaining yards on first down. Mid pack in passing yards, bottom group on completions mid pack on completion %. Mid pack in qbR, give up the most sacks, close to top tier in passing tds. Mid pack 2nd down conversions, top tier in TOP. Made the fewest turn overs while forcing the most fumbles and picks. +10 turn overs already. Still one of the least disciplined teams with penalties, the fewest Tfl and big plays. when then overs slow down, and they will the air will go out of the riders balloon. Line play is what creates wins, the riders have probably the worst differential in terms of line play. The worst run and pass pro, good run stop no pass rush. Top will also even out over time given they can’t run the ball or stop the pass. riders opponents combined record 3-16 bcs opponent record 7-18 wpgs 17-12
  20. The O hasn’t been decent all year though. We’ve suffered from 2 and outs, red zone issues, and inability to keep drives going all year plus turn overs. the D gave us a Td, a turn over that prevented points and set up the offence in the red zone, plus tanners block. We kicked 5 fg attempts, and threw two picks on the wrong side of the field. If our O played decent we would’ve won in a blow out. Mean while our D has given up among the fewest points. Swap out jake ba and biggie, we get a guy or two back from injury and we have the best D in the league, and the best since late 21.
  21. Hubert is far above schmekel and Samson, lucky is only a kick cover guy if that. if fox is healthy dress the 3 dl woods and Adams can play edge as well any way. Parker has played sam at a high level here before and Cole played S in pre season and camp Id make that switch. At this point I’d give Wallace a shot at neufs G spot. Even let neuf and Dobson fight for the lg spot. Id start clercius and naturalized American lucky. And id look at taking feltmate/augustine off for ni depth else where I don’t worry about our D as much as any team that is decent at rushing the qb or stopping the run. Any team that does either will have us 2 and out all day, and our D will wear out. No mater who we play.
  22. Yep. biggie is the captain of the over the hill gang. Retirement watch is on
