A few times this year plop has been applauded for good game plans. On here, and in the media. Over all though, many seem to be critical of him. (my self included) Throwing it out now as post season success or lack of would dramatically skew the results. Offensive stats. 2nd fewest turn overs. 3rd fewest sacks allowed. 8th for time of possession. 5th in rush yards. 3 way tie for 4th in rushing tds. 8th in passing tds. 6th in passing yards (only none play off teams below us) 4th in points scored. Including Fgs, xpts, points scored by the D. Success of the smith package, wr sweep/reverse. Smith 5 carries for 5 yards. Darvin adams, 1 carry 1 yard. dressler 5 carries 45 yards (20 on one) kohlert 1 carry -1 yard. Mcduffie 3- 17 yards. DI useage. Mcduffie had 6 games with 0 catches. 1 game he had 153 1 td out of 241 for 1 td for the year. Flanders started 3 games and was DI'd 4 times. In those 4 games he got 4 runs and 1 catch. Harris played great but only reached or passed 20 carries in a game once. He wasnt used heavily in bc as a runner but still had a down year in terms of tds avg etc. But the OL to start the year was brutal. An offence like ours should have used him much more though. We shouldnt go quarters and halves of games with out him involved. We brought in gurley, but made very little use of him. No end zone fades. We saw strong success with nichols on the roll when teams were aggressive, but then would go away from it. Shot gun plays in the red zone, Not making good use of play action, screens shovel pass, fades etc in the red zone. 2nd and short draw plays. We also lacked diversity in our run plays. Despite harris doing very well on off tackle runs stretches etc. Does making the play offs and early season qb/ol changes buy him another year?

How big are kohlert, richards, and JFG? Its hard to tell when they are invisible 3/4 of the season.

Thats still a tiny combined sample size. Idk if there is another back up qb in the league with up side and a lack of experience worth getting more excited about then him. But with the amount of proven vets who can win games, that devalues him some. Unlike the shopping spree of willy/harris/collaros. He isnt the guy Id want backing up the no1 ideally. Id want one of the guys who can come in a win a game. The value to get him would be too great for a no3. At that point id rather look through the US and see what we can dig up our selfs. I think that all comes down to cost. If we stick with nichols we need a guy on the bench who can come in and win games. If we got durant or hank (shudder) we'd need a guy who can come in and win. Because you cant rely on their health. Assuming we retain nichols at starter money with incentives if he becomes elite that should leave us some cash to bring in an appropriate vet. Maybe a blue chip prospect too. No joke. Qb is probably the toughest position to get/develop. But it doesnt matter who you have back there if they dont have atleast an OL to keep em off their butt. Another year for most of this core together, maybe even going with another imp (foketi) this could be the best OL in the league next year. That plus the silly amount of weapons we have is gonna make it very desirable for our starting qb(s) next year. Plus harris. The only real negative is plop. -

Not really any correlation. Very different players and offenses, and teams around them. 2010 was ricky rays 8th year in the league. He had already thrown for 5k+ 3 times. Ricky ray also has every tool a passer could want. The first year in edm he had some trouble finishing games but worked that out quickly. BLM was 23, the previous year tossed 1156 yards with 10 tds and 3 picks. Playing roughly 4-5 games. That td production in that game amount is exceptional. Mike riley the previous year put up 4200 yards 25 tds 18 picks in about 16. Nichols in his time prior to this year was fairly consistent in terms of Tds per game, td - int ratio, yards per game etc. This year the largest difference is his td to int ratio dropped sharply. He played in 31 games over 3 years prior to this year. Thats a pretty strong sample size. The sharp change in his td-int ratio is either dramatic improvement or un sustainable. For a guy his level of experience to take such a step forward isnt common, but it does happen. For him to take another step forward after that with 46 games played over 4 years would be exceptionally rare. Some guys like AC, damon allen etc did it. But many dont. We can all hope he takes that next step forward but to expect it or compare his up side to some one like BLM is un fair. Comparing his production to any thing would be more fitting to 2nd years as a starter. BLM 264/417 3389 22/8 MR 288/446 3327 16/11 RR 348-515 4640 35/13 Nichols 327/471 3666 18/9 But then BLM is tough to use as he was much younger, and broke into the league much faster. MR is some what poor too he seems to be hurt every other year. MR, collaros and harris are closer to comparable. Though all three have injury problems that skew numbers, and are younger with different skill sets. The best comparison id use is kevin glenn. Took some starts in 04, became starter in 05. Had 3 years in sask as a back up where he saw some action but never took a starters job. Was younger but still more of a known commodity and didnt have the raw skill set advantage the others have. 230/402 3571 27/17 also in 15 games. -
Yeah it would be soo great. Even better if hammy loses then to ott. No but I could run out to regina and get some more crazy.

3 stars plus HH vs the RBs minor league team

Cus normand is one of the stars right? The claim the D was playing soft on him would be more viable if he wasnt running ppl down. Wasnt it mentioned that drop and others needed to be addressed in the other thread? Oh wait, it was. -

Adams and denmark have been hotter for portions of the year, while dressler is more consistent. Imop dressler is still our no1 wr this year and next baring a crazy move. Its a great position to be in though with these guys healthy. Dressler>adams/denmark>gurley>every one else>every ones wife>kohlert/smith -

Hes not a FA. He showed some impressive flashes, but so did masoli and half a dozen other guys this year. Many of them on worse offenses. Its too small a sample size to sell the farm on. Especially in a year that will see durant, glenn, hank, tate, nichols, etc as FAs. -

Those guys showed the big flashes early. Nichols could improve though, and would need to take a step forward next year like he did off last year. But remember, every one of our QBs are a FA. Including nichols. So even if you assume we can and do sign nichols to an extension for starter money in the off season, we still need a legit back up that can come in and play. hes had a few hard hits and been slow to get up through out his portion of the year with a good OL. Have to have the insurance policy. The part above about all our qbs being a FA. I wouldnt be surprised to see one of davis and bennett come back. They have the same tool set, athletic, short passing accuracy struggle with the deep ball etc. Both have low amount of experience as a starter at the college level. The big difference is davis is 28 next year and bennett is 25. Both guys have the tool set to have some success in our system, but neither is a guy who protects the ball. They arent high up side prospects. Both are guys who started on the bench/RS with big programs and left to small schools for a chance to play. Both guys struggled alot adapting their 2nd year as the guy but still came out. All the snaps theyve been giving to davis in practice are imop to give him some development and get a better idea of where he is. The cup of coffee with mcleod bethel thompson kinda shows whats up. Mid to late in the season you dont have a ton of extra snaps in practice. Hard to say if glenn would want to come back as a back up next year. Or if he would be reasonably priced to do so. Especially combined with what ever we pay to our starter. It will probably be our position of biggest turn over next year, I dont think the chances of all 4 guys coming back is very good. -

He does, but look at how good the als where since they came back till now. And how many coaches weve run through in that period of time. To and sask would benefit hugely from bringing him in imop. Course the last thing i wanna see is popp headed to ssk. -

Its not a snub, late in the game he had been nicked up and was protected. It was the wise thing to do. He was under used through most of the game though. As was the case for most of the season. -

Dont mess this up for us mike. Win that trip and let history repeat it self.

Thats certainly part of it. Weve also seen tons of single game flashes from guys like masoli, cato, lefevour, kilgore, and adams. This may well have been the best performance, but I wouldnt sell the farm on him just yet. Drew willy, Trevor harris, and Zach collaros should give teams pause over going too crazy too quick on a qb.

Its beyond ridiculous to call the late moments of a game garbage, but time against a teams 3rd and 4th stringers NOT garbage. -

lol dont you hate it when people dont want to admit wrongs on the internet? Nichols had periods of very good play, mostly late in games. Idk if hes played more then a good half this year though. And hasnt been good to end the year. Better then the first game against ott, but still tons of field goals in the red zone. The OL D and steady play of our teams crafted our win streak. The offense didnt lose games. But the turn overs won them. And nichols has been enabled behind what in the 2nd half has been one of the best Ols. Vs one of the worst early. 30-23 td to pick ratio before this year. Playing behind poor Ols with so so talent at wr and an even worse system he was worse then willy last year. Willy got beat down and wrecked. If nichols had to play with the same support he would have suffered the same fate. Luckily, he did not. He gets a strong OL, tons of turn overs and a bunch of talented offensive pieces to develop with. -

wbbfan replied to wbbfan's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
The whole game was as much garbage time out of ott as a late game one sided loss. Just like pre season it doesnt mean you ignore a bright spot like normand. Its a comparison to your own standards. Then perhaps you should admit the role the OL and turn overs has played in the turn around instead of trying to blanket all success on nichols. Or that nichols hasnt been very good the last couple weeks. Or that signing trevor harris like you said wouldnt have saved the season. Or zach collaros. And maybe, you should look at the pre season / off season threads talking about QBs and what i had to say about nichols ranking amongst those guys, glenn tate etc. -
he was to some extent nicked up. Its tough to tell how hurt he is at any point. He kept playing earlier this year when he could hardly walk, and they had to pull him off the field. No question he needed to be off the field. If any thing he could have come off earlier. I look at some of the poor usage of him earlier in the game and especially in the season and see his missing yards.
-
ahmen to that. My breath is held. I do believe in the front office and the massive amount of talent we have though.
-
Earlier this season we saw flashes out of him. A screen pass with a jaw dropping hurdle. In CIS he was a beast of a runner. Hes developed into a good blocker and teams guy. Now tnite, albeit in junk time/game he was stellar. Big, athletic, young and NI. I didnt give him a star or the HH but he certainly could have been one. Gotta give big props to the guy, maybe hes opening the door to steal some touches moving forward and even become the full time back up RB. Gotta work on catching the ball but man his future looks bright. Havent seen power running like that since big mike. (for the bombers any way) http://www.bluebombers.com/2016/08/04/christophe-normand-elevates/

If the turn overs dried up, and we dont improve red zone offense yes we could. This D has out performed the traditional bend but dont break. Some teams have maintained that style. Namely TO. Im not a fan of it. But it can do the job. I do expect our turn overs to drop off next year. But we have some STUD imp wr talent, and a beast of an OL. Next year we will need the O to be a driving force in our wins. Cant play to not lose the game. Its not pure luck, all the turn overs. We have tons of play makers. Guys who are adept at baiting and gambling. Thats not going to disappear, but it very likely wont continue at the same pace. Yeah, untill this franchise is a consistent winner its gonna have that question looming. No matter what happens now expectations will be very high next year. Im not sure mos will get it done. And think plop is ripe for a return to TSN.
