  1. Its not just a QB thing. Youd be surprised how many wrs run a 8 yard out on a 10 yard out play, how often a qb throws during a wrs break and the wr doesnt burst out of the cut etc. Short to intermediate passes over the middle should be on the numbers. Pretty much every thing else should lead the WR. If you throw to one side or the other and put it on the numbers its liable to be a pick 6. You have to put it where it cant be picked and only the wr can get it. Thats just life in the modern cfl spread offense.
  2. insert every 4 letter word in history here. And some of those color full sailor swears / ryan reynolds lines here.
  3. People would have said the same thin of kerwin bell his last year here. He did pretty good in a brutal offense last year. That said Its dang hard to imagine us being better then if willy is healthy and his old self. I hope he's just shaking off rust, he hasnt looked as sharp as usual. But a new system running vanilla plays and lots of changes will add to that too. And no dressler.
  4. richards all in all didnt look bad. Had some flashes. Small sigh of relief hope fully he can keep it up and progress into a factor.
  5. i dont doubt he will try it. But when star qbs fight coaches the qbs seldom lose.
  6. wonder what jones is gonna do for work next. You know durant can do no wrong in dirty old regina.
  7. Or atleast his hat while striking a homer simpson though pose.
  8. Thats a drastically out dated notion. There is a reason why we didnt use mike sellers running short yardage and used blink instead. Ive got much love for tackle breaking, pile pushing power backs, but flanders isnt one. Messam, ranek those guys are few and far between up here. What im saying is flanders is the kind of guy who will run for a steady 5 yards when a back like anderson would run for 7+.
  9. that was a bit of an over reaction there coach...
  10. Anderson is certainly smaller, but that isnt a big issue to me. 1) weve seen high usage durable small backs in this league before. Its not nearly as big an issue as in the nfl. Lbers are a ton bigger then Dbs and Des are only a bit bigger on average then LBers. A side from the odd miracle worker all rbs need a hole. If the OL gets gaps eliminated unless you have an off tackle play called its making the best of a bad situation. If any thing the type of runner anderson is he has more of a chance then flanders if no hole is available. Hes shown the ability to scrape the line and find the edge, cut back in a small window and make people miss. Flanders is bigger, but he will still only push through bad angle arm tackles. He took advantage of good gaps and basically ran to defenders. He isnt a tackle breaker, he doesnt seem to have the ability to move a pile even small groups of LBers. Anderson's ability to be a threat returning kicks, and being a change of pace from harris is a great fit for us. If it was for a no1 rb, id say split carrys feature flanders and let anderson be the change of pace back again. His skill set is just really well set up for that. But luckily we have harris to start. A low potential grinder of a rb flanders doesnt seem to do any thing poorly. But he doesnt do any thing great either. Hes the kind of guy thatll run for 4 or 5 yards with a decent push from the Ol with high regularity. Not a bad fit at all for the cfl, but a guy like that needs a lot of touches to be effective.
  11. This is true, but flanders tore it up later against lesser competition with more touches then anderson imop. Anderson is also a legit kick returner, I dont see flanders beating him out short of injury or monster game in ottawa and anderson looking bad.
  12. thats ballsy but will he be 1st 2nd or 3rd string?
  13. dont think any one did soo bad they gotta be cut before game 2.
  14. Idk i think MoS is slow to cut vets. I agree for a guy whose been around as much veltung sure got out shined by a few rooks.
  15. If flanders shows solid again in game 2 i bet he goes to the IR or the PR. If we are willing to hide him on the 46 or threaten to I think we can get some thing out of hammy or ott.
  16. I could see us keeping butcher on the active roster to play the line on special teams. That push up the middle against punts n kick and putting him off tackle on the goal line set could be huge. Only if he's willing. Im guessing we could carry him on the expanded roster, but I think the future is trading him to hamilton.
  17. the front 7 in general looks real good so far.
  18. Willy will prolly be solid. The first series will be scripted and the first after half after which hell prolly be out. Then the back ups will prolly flood in.
  19. do we have a practice today?
  20. I think we are all holding our breath that macho isnt this years kuale.
  21. Glenn is a short scrambler who moves the pocket and cant see over the OL, needs passing lanes, has to rely on zip and release timing. He is prone to turn overs in the clutch. Nichols stands tall in the pocket, doesnt look to scramble or roll or move the pocket. Doesnt get happy feet. he has arm strength to make any of the throws. Glenn is a scramble to throw guy, which creates turn overs if you dont set your feet and have great body control. Glenn is also prone to fumbling. nichols is not. Glenn was also a league MVP. the nichols trade was considered high way robbery and still is. Nichols was also statistically better last year then glenn.
  22. And he was playing in edmonton before that... He certainly doesnt throw up multiple gift balls a game. Its also hard to be consistent with in consistent play time and then coming here to play on a terrible offense. In games where he made 20 completions or more his production is actually very good. Only one bad game for him in that stretch but when your down and having to try and get a major every series because the game is half in the bag soo quickly it ruins any chance of getting first downs and putting a drive together. Glenn is a terrible comparison to nichols style and tool set. Jason maas early days AC etc. He isnt the guy whose going to move the pocket, or has to rely on release time to compensate for arm strength, and hes been pretty healthy.
  23. didnt say they are khari and glenn. said this is the strongest 1,2 weve had at qb since then. Though keep in mind when we had both glenn and khari, jones was allready done. Like i Said out defence is crazy deep. So when our team 2 off in on the field and team 2 def, the d has a huge advantage. TC isnt a big evaluation tool for qbs. Especially for veteran qbs. Its for shaking the rust off and learning a new system. Weve had plenty of guys who look great in practise and tc and cant turn that into good game production. Nichols threw for 3245/19/60% with a banged up OL, little running game, and the worst offensive play calling / system this team has seen in a decade. That production is a good bit more then both crompton and cato combined. Not to mention crompton looked awful last year. Sure they got more potential, but in a no2 qb you wan a vet who can step in and run the offense in a pinch. And thats what we have.
  24. I dont think weve had a top 2 this strong since khari and glenn.
  25. doesnt seem like any qb behind willy has separated them self. even willy hasnt been lights out this camp. Though i attribute that to how deep our DB and Lbers are.
