GDT - Calgary Stampeders vs. Winnipeg Blue Bombers
wbbfan replied to voodoochylde's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
Keys to the game: a productive run game. We struggled to run vs cal in our first match up and pre season. Need a good dose of bully ball today. limit the penalties. We aren’t producing the yards to make up for all we are losing. Discipline will be huge today. Qb. Need to be reasonably quick to pull zach if he isn’t moving the offence, and buck needs to call a competent game. -

I can see that, but at the same time if he was barred from the cfl as a president and stayed on in the same office for the rest of mlse that’s a possible $&@% storm. -

https://3downnation.com/2024/07/11/toronto-argonauts-president-bill-manning-mlse-mutually-parts-ways/ wonder if this has any thing to do with the Kelly situation… maybe the league let him fall on his sword rather than be tied to all this stuff -

He’s married, because no matter who we have Thomas would get the snaps. The injuries are a freak occurrence, I dont think those fall on any one. If every one was healthy and stayed healthy, guys like woods and Hubert probably never see snaps. Every on has a place in the conversation, and every one can learn, it’s all about that growth mindset 👍 -

Woods fox adams lawson wj habba hubert and garbutt. That’s an impressive deep versatile group. The fact mos is married to the worst dl on our roster and that guys have been banged up isn’t on the scout department. That dl with schmekel would be among the best in the league. -

Woods has been the best ng we’ve had since stove. Adams is hands down better inside, fox is better Hubert could play 3t, etc. the job of our two dts are not the same, we use a guy who scrapes inside, gap cancels and tries to push the pocket back, and a guy who pass rushes from the interior. Sayles is a great example of a guy who excelled as a pass rush dt here. Thomas, isn’t in that role here, neither is woods, though woods could do that. It all depends on the role. The guy who plays A gaps and or nose is generally 290-305 for us. More often than not 300 or a shade under. Usually we use shorter, stocky, athletic noses. The pass rush guys in 3/4i tech are often 270 range. We have often played bigger ends like kongbo and Hansen inside at this spot, and used dts like sayles and walker in that spot while also rotating at de. -

I’ve seen Hubert and woods both generate pressures, how he’s quantifying a pressure would be the question. If you’re the second guy in and don’t get a sack is he counting that as a pressure? Is he counting sack assists as pressures, etc. also wj having a higher volume of snaps than Thomas by almost half a game is suspicious af. Thomas barely comes off and wj has been off for entire series in a couple games. -

233 at the combine, but listed as 222 on our site. Iirc he was listed 220 ish in the eu too. But even at that, 230 is a real small de, and for a guy who hasn’t played a real game against north American tackles… good luck. Hansen was like 250 as a lber though. The difference between a global guy who played only in Europe and an American who played d1 and likely got an nfl camp invite is gigantic though. -

I think it’s a question of balancing the other deals. You had have all that premium pay, plus guys like kramdi augustine etc. Lawler is looking at a serious market correction in his next deal. Man I hope not. 220 lbs de with out any decent level experience would get rag dolled. -
And tbh the market for lbers is really cheap these days. Wynton McManis is head and shoulders above the rest of the leagues lbers and he just finally got a decent pay day making 200k with bonuses. Biggie at 165 is a joke. Canadians like hladik and Lokombo both make a good chunk less, as does Morgan in Edmonton and even our former all star in jsk.
-
He beat biggie in the hole like 5 or 6 times too, 3 with the same spin. Trucked him a couple times as well. Age is undefeated. Last year was the end of biggies serviceability. He’s got no place on the field now.

Starts with Chad Simpson was the guy till he got hurt, and runs up to cam Marshall. How many sacks did we give up in that time line and who did we have for ocs? Product of the environment. Ott has easily been above average for rbs despite not having a qb of note in a good while. Roc now, Williams last year, they had rb by committee before that leading up to Powell. Bc hasn’t be willing to commit to running the ball in a dogs age. Ssk churned through several decently productive guys in committee back to carries being split with Fajardo. Bc and Hamilton have been bringing in established fa starters and seldom using them for years. They would suck at running the ball with Christian Mccaffrey or any other top back. I think we will see Adams at edge mainly but yes, a lot of Hubert and the depth guys. -

Demskis deal looks worse when we don’t have guys that he can aid in the line up. Hes a glue guy and brings tremendous value in his route running and blocking. He understands better than most any one how to adjust his routes and depth to put the D in a bad spot and create a great look for him self or more frequently a guy like lawler / schoen. His age and health, and not running the motion pack I wouldn’t give him that deal again now. But he’s still a tremendous value that severely limits how defenders can play our top wrs. I’d say if broken down into tiers, Brady’s deal would be a 2nd tier problem. Right now, zach looks like the biggest concern. Ba doesn’t make that much keep in mind. Lawlers deal is a big issue just because it’s a remnant of a couple free agencies where the league lost its mind. Top tier is deals we need out from now. 2nd tier is guys that really hurt, but you can have maybe one or two of them. We have a bunch of twos now. Biggie Thomas kramdi etc are all in that tier with Brady. We need a thorough roster weeding in the off season if not sooner. -

Mills is 27 and in his 2nd season as a starter. Butler is way further down the road than mills, Carey has been solid as well. Look at production in the league soo far among rbs. Pretty much every one across the board is neck and neck. Ryquell has been far more effective than most but that’s it. If you swap Brady for any of the starting backs in the league we don’t see any change in out comes this year. But if you take 130-170k difference between Brady and most of those backs and put that on a starter else where to have replaced them with an all star you could see change. -

The top paid wr makes almost 100k more than demski. Vs the second highest paid rb in the league makes 70k less than Brady. Otts rookie is at the min and could/is doing it. You don’t need a current name though, because thats the rb market. When was the last time a team couldn’t find a rb -

He’s an aberration, the exception that proves the rule. Doesn’t matter what passport you have, rb is the lowest value starter on the field. The point is, good teams don’t waste cap space on star Canadians. Did the als or argos have nis making top of the range pay? Did we in 19 or 21? Nope. Bad teams give out bloated contracts like that. Desjarlais, korte, gittens et. Bad teams give Canadians big premium contracts, even at premium positions. We refused to pay drew, couture, Kongbo etc. despite ol being the highest value ni spot, and one of the highest value spots in football. Demski also gets paid more because he does more than most wrs. Hes widely held as the best guy away from the ball, a great blocker and his jet sweep stuff has been critical in our offensive success the last several years. -

How many Canadians have won mop in the past 25 years though? I don’t actually, because the leagues market for wrs has crashed because of the mega deals. Look at what schoen got. Henoc, mostly took over pays from none contenders instead of playing on better teams until he was late in his career and used as a rotational guy. Rb stars don’t make star money. They make 40 cents on the wr dollar mostly. Harris wasn’t the too paid back till he left here and his contract was a huge albatross. I doubt any team is paying half of what we are paying for at rb. Qb, wr, dl, lber, db etc highest paid positional players across the board are imp. Canadians have a higher floor and a lower ceiling save for 2-3 guys in the entire league. -

The difference between a dominant rb and a dominant pass rusher, Sam or S is gigantic. Rbs also don’t have a long shelf life, especially physical runners like Brady. Ryquell Armstead could do a lot of what Brady did last year for Pennies on the dollar. Mills, brown lots of guys would. Like I said it isn’t our biggest waste or even close to it, but it’s a hard cap hit to make work. We have a lot of those currently. And half of em are under performing. -

I love Brady, and what he does in terms of marketing and off the field stuff. I’d hate to lose him. But it you are comparing a defensive player of the year type to a rb in terms of money, I’ll take the defensive guy every day. I’d a sat down with Brady and been 100% with him. I’d give him all the off cap money possible like the appearance thing n junk, but I wouldn’t pay that much for a rb. Part of the problem is the amount we are paying the combination of Brady, Augustine, mci and feltmate is insane. Not to mention 4 roster spots. Especially when our di kr is a natural rb. If mci isn’t ready to be a fb/back up runner Ned contribute on kick cover keep him on the pr, let woli and clercius fill the role. We could’ve kept rosery, used clercius in blocking situations and gone di kr/rb for the back up rb and saved probably 85% of Brady’s salary. Especially with us carrying 7 ol. -
