  1. Really? No one in favour of privatization? That surprises me. I assumed, that most people favoured privatization, leaving only the prohibitionists and strong union supporters supporting status quo. Interesting.
  2. Rider Desperation is my jam.
  3. Not really. The opposition is not going to get their #$&* together in the next twelve months. They've effectively cut a year off their mandate going to the polls early. Another, thought could be that Pallister is done and wants to wrap up his leadership in the next twenty four months. He really doesn't like the job anyhow.
  4. Yes, that would be one. Second, MGEU civil servants do not have a contract. If you're going to play hardball, you're better to do it with a buffer in case they strike. Third, you've made some cuts to the civil service but better wait until after an election to dig further. Fourth, you just started implementing your ER changes. If things go off the rails, as they are starting already, better have an election now before the full impact is known.
  5. Not saying there is anything wrong with anything. I was pointing out, from a political point-of-view, that calling an early election is likely due to the timing of some other changes.
  6. I suppose if you don't look, you won't see them. Regarding layoff notices and the Gov'ts plan to reduce jobs: https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/manitoba/manitoba-infrastructure-special-operations-layoff-privatization-1.4960940 Regarding the funds in Enabling Appropriations (page 113) - Internal Service Adjustments: https://www.gov.mb.ca/asset_library/en/budget2019/estimate-expenditures.pdf
  7. Actually, there have been and they've only been able to lay people off for the past two months. They also tucked a while bunch of money into Enabling Appropriations, which is exactly where you would tuck severance money. And, continuing with the previous gov'ts initiatives, not filling positions. Edit: It was firmly in their platform that the size of the civil service was too big and voters, I believe, agreed with them.
  8. I disagree with the timing. We have fixed election dates and it's not likely that the NDP or Liberals will get their **** together in the next twelve months anyhow. It's timed so that they can start laying people off in the fall.
  9. Like Mulroney.
  10. The Liberals were (are) a tire fire and the NDP has never been able to climb out of the hole they dug themselves. I'm more amazed that the PCs elected him leader. This will prove to be a long term disaster for them.

Word is that it was between 100k and 200k. That's a huge variance but if it is between them, it's a really, really good number.
  12. We're all just anxious to get some games under our belt. It's been a long off-season.We'll be ready.
  13. All I'm thinking about now...
  14. Seriously? That's unfortunate for them. What's the injury? I think they expected a lot from him this season.
  15. Oh, geez. That's serious. Who's going to bankroll them back to profitability?
  16. Ignore Rempel's age. When he starts showing that he can't do the job, then he can be replaced. As of yet, that's not happened. He's 38 going on 28, in my books.
  17. Yes, the current administration investigated this "phenomenon" and determined it was a hoax. Even though they really tried to make it true. Trump had to disband the commission.
  18. But why even have one? It's a spot that you don't need to fill and eat away at your budget.
  19. They make lots via his money laundering. Defaulting on a $640M loan is no biggie.
  20. I feel very confident that we have the best o-line in the west, regardless of Hardrick's health. But, yes, let's hope he's healthy.
  21. Didn't they just add an extra roster spot for the global player? Lord, I hope so. And, if so, I would just give up that spot rather than carry another global player (until you have to field one or they actually are worth carrying).
  22. Reilly will feel right at home without an o-line in front of him, some stud receivers, and questionable D. Not sure how this season finishes any different than the last for him.
  23. That's my point though, I wouldn't trade him for a first rounder, unless it's now and it's a top 5 pick. That ain't happening.
