  1. I lived in North Battleford for three years, grade 5 to 8. They provided all school kids free passes to the games. I went to almost all the games, as it was a cheap night out. We treated them like NHLers. They were accessible and you could see them around town. Everyone knew their names and they were just high school kids. The North Battleford Northstars meant as much to North Battleford as the Jets do to Winnipeg. It's just that ingrained. It's not about money, it's about the connection.
  2. The billet is the guest.
  3. I disagree with most of this. Receivers are better and they improved during the season. Demski is upgrade over JFG. JFG was a known commodity but we knew was that he was fine, not great. Again, we got better during the season last year and don't see any regression. Bond leaving will hurt but we've got lots of national talent. Not really worried there. GM: Guy has consistently made the team better and attracted top talent. Not sure what else this guy can do to impress you. Secondary is much better. Not sure why you would think it has regressed. I was doubtful about Moe Leggs but the guy has already proven he's healthy. Not sure why we've regressed there. Not having Hurl, the Matador, back there makes us instantly better.
  4. I was just thinking about the inherit advantage that network TVs have over Netlix and streaming services in terms of advertising. Unless I'm in Netflix, I'm not seeing their product.
  5. It means they lived with them. Most of these players live away from home to play. When you billet someone, you provide them food and lodging. But you also provide them your home, your heart and your care. They become part of the family. Your billets become like children to you. It's hard to explain what these kids mean to a community. They go to school there, the whole area follows them and they're part of the fabric of the small community. Hockey is life for so many and these players play at the top level, the pinnacle, in those towns.
  6. Espcially when records are tied to franchises. Current Jets franchise started in Atlanta. City records are another thing. Stop getting bent out of shape over nothing.
  7. Yeah, just because it was a discussion on ill-informed forums, doesn't mean it was ever considered at the team level.
  8. This is devastating. As someone who spent many seasons following the SJHL, based out of North Battleford, I know what these teams mean to the communities. I'm at a loss for words now and am hoping for the best.
  9. And Lafrance, who many think can catch out of the backfield. (I don't, BTW)
  10. McDavid has the hardest work ethic of anyone on that team. I don't think it was a mistake to give him the C. He's a leader. The mistake was dumping all that top end offensive talent and getting nothing in return. Also, signing Lucic to a crazy contract.
  11. Sorry, reading comprehension problem on my end.
  12. I think giving them almost a week off is a much bigger injury risk then letting them play.
  13. We should put our starters in. They don't need the rest and we need some consistency.
  14. I don't think so. They have huge structural problems and have not resolved two key shortfalls - goaltending and defence. I bet they get some top prospects this year though. Their biggest crutch is probably Chiarelli. That guy unloads more talent than anyone else. Here's an article from December outlining his failures (so far): https://oilersnation.com/2017/12/08/a-hindsight-look-at-peter-chiarellis-gruesome-trading-record/

It's shocking, shocking that McGregor was let in. Dana was hoping for a scuffle and for the attention but certainly not what ultimately happened. But you know, as well as anyone, how unpredictable these fighters can be. You can't reign them in once you let them go.

So, I'm not a conspiracy theorist or anything but how does Connor get into Barclays? He obviously had a pass. Did Dana think that anything good would come from letting Connor into the building? Of course not. He was hoping for controversy and a splash. He was not expecting Connor to lose his mind. He went overboard and ruined a UFC card.
  17. YES IT IS!!! But, you know, Jones is a genius and Hurl was misused. Maybe Hurl can be taught to tackle?
  18. It was Toth and he was vague but I understood it to be regulation time wins, not wins after 60 minutes.
  19. The radio said regulation wins.
  20. The Finnish Line.
  21. I don't agree with this argument but... I think Luongo had the puck under him, although the Preds were poking at it, and by turning (interfering with) him, the puck came loose. Buycky did not have the puck.
  22. Moose have signed Cedarholm to a tryout contract. You must be shocked.
  23. And, we only have a 23 man roster. Usually, there is at least one or two that are nursing an injury, so that leaves you one or two that can get on the roster. It's not like you can turn 5 or 6 players over on a given night.
  24. I think he got offered a lot of money to go to Ottawa, more than we were prepared to offer at the time. I don't think there was any issue between the Bombers and McDuffie.
  25. Fire up your tractors, there'sa gonna be a riot.
