Climate change is real and we're causing it. Deniers have no answer other than to suppress scientific findings. Trump administration blocks intelligence aide’s warning on ‘catastrophic’ climate change White House officials barred a State Department intelligence staffer from submitting written testimony this week to the House Intelligence Committeewarning that human-caused climate change could be "possibly catastrophic" after State officials refused to excise the document's references to the scientific consensus on climate change. The effort to edit, and ultimately suppress, the written testimony of a senior analyst at the State Department's Bureau of Intelligence and Research comes as the Trump administration is debating how best to challenge the idea that the burning of fossil fuels is warming the planet and could pose serious risks unless the world makes deep cuts in greenhouse gas emissions over the next decade. Senior military and intelligence officials have continued to warn climate change could undermine America's national security, a position Donald Trump rejects. https://news.yahoo.com/trump-administration-blocks-intelligence-aide-142640961.html

Well fortunately, Rex no longer works for the CBC and I'm still not sure exactly when he lost his mind. I still enjoy CBC Radio as it's easy to learn about 10 new things a day if you're able to catch the right programs (The Current, Ideas, As It Happens, Quirks & Quarks). I still think there's a hangover from the Harper-appointed Board of Directors which didn't seem too keen on the notion of a public broadcaster - kind of like making Scott Pruitt the head of the EPA. The news broadcasts and online content have suffered since then.

Just watched the Blaze Foley biopic on Netflix and it is really, really well done. John Prine has written enough brilliant songs on his own and doesn't need to cover anyone, but it says something about Blaze Foley's talent that he chose to cover Clay Pigeons. Here's the original.

It's really an astonishing rate - over 12 per day and the Post is very conservative on their judgments. How can anyone believe or support this moron? 'We All Owe Al Gore An Apology': More People See Climate Change In Record Flooding Angel Portillo doesn't think about climate change much. It's not that he doesn't care. He just has other things to worry about. Climate change seems so far away, so big. Lately though, Portillo says he has been thinking about it more often. Standing on the banks of a swollen and surging Arkansas River, just upriver from a cluster of flooded businesses and homes, it's easy to see why. "Stuff like this," he says, nodding at the frothy brown waters, "all of the tornadoes that have been happening — it just doesn't seem like a coincidence, you know?" And yet: In late May and early June, NPR asked nearly two dozen people in Oklahoma and Arkansas who were experiencing the ongoing flooding about climate change. All of them said they believed that the climate was changing, even if they didn't directly associate the raining and floods with it or agree on the cause. (Six people said they believed God was driving the change.) https://www.npr.org/2019/06/08/730456004/more-people-see-climate-change-in-record-floods-and-extreme-weather-will-that-me

These are fantasy rankings so I figure they are penalizing Nichols because Streveler gets a lot of red zone reps.

TSN needs to read their wikipedia page. Let them make a decision about which Ontario game to air, but put a crew out in Regina and use your regional channel for that. As of 2010, TSN has been subject to deregulated Category C licensing by the CRTC, which allows multiple feeds to be operated under the TSN licence with no restrictions on alternate programming; TSN used this new ability to operate an autonomous TSN2, along with part-time feeds for regional NHL coverage. On August 25, 2014, the primary TSN service was re-structured into four 24-hour feeds—TSN1, TSN3, TSN4, and TSN5—with each designated as the primary TSN network for each region of Canada. TSN now essentially operates as a group of regional sports networks similarly to Sportsnet, the 1, 3, 4, and 5 channels air some common programming and simulcast major events, while all five channels are capable of airing programming autonomously—including alternative national events and studio shows, supplemental coverage of larger events, and regional programming (such as NHL games; subject to blackout outside the respective team's market).[2][4]
-
TSN has no NHL coverage and only gets every second Raptors game. As the official broadcaster of a 9 team league, they should put their money where their mouths are and cover all the pre-season games - especially out West where eyes will actually be on the broadcast.

Americans must accept that none of these things ever happened By Dana Milbank Columnist June 3 at 7:12 PM Oh no, he didn’t. I believe President Trump when he says “I never called Meghan Markle ‘nasty.’ ” I believe him even though Britain’s Sun newspaper published an interview with Trump the day before in which he referred to the Duchess of Sussex with that very word — and even though the Sun has a recording. Likewise, I believed Trump when he visited Britain last year and said “I didn’t criticize the prime minister” – even though the Sun also had a recorded interview of him that time, criticizing Prime Minister Theresa May. And I am fully prepared to believe Trump tomorrow if he says “I never called Sadiq Khan a ‘stone cold loser’ ” — even though Trump, landing in Britain on Monday, called the London mayor just that in a tweet that misspelled Khan’s name and also mocked him for being short. I believe all this and more because the alternative is unthinkable: that our great nation inflicted on the world a president who is, well, a stone cold loser, boorish and ignorant. Therefore I plan to do as Trump does: live today as if yesterday never happened. But it’s not enough to imagine away this week’s name-calling. To preserve national dignity, Americans must accept that none of the following ever happened: Trump did not shove the prime minister of Montenegro and he didn’t declare that he “fell in love” with the dictator of North Korea. He didn’t hang up on the Australian prime minister, nor attack the pope on Twitter. He didn’t use a phony accent to imitate the Indian prime minister, nor make fun of Chinese leaders’ eyewear. He didn’t refer to African nations and Haiti as “shithole countries.” At no time did Trump confuse the Baltics with the Balkans. Never did he tastelessly comment on the French first lady’s body. He certainly did not invent the country of “Nambia,” nor did he boast about selling Norway a fighter jet that only exists in a computer game. He didn’t mispronounce Nepal as “nipple.” Under no circumstance did Trump assert that “there is no longer a nuclear threat from North Korea,” nor did he believe North Korea’s dictator over Japan’s prime minister. He most definitely did not land in Israel and announce: “We just got back from the Middle East.” He didn’t skip a visit to a U.S. military cemetery in France because of a little rain. He didn’t accept Vladimir Putin’s word over that of U.S. intelligence, and when told “do not congratulate” Putin on his rigged election victory, he did not congratulate. He didn’t refer to Brussels as a “hellhole” nor assert that “Belgium is a beautiful city.” And spellingthe British prime minister’s name as that of a British porn actress? Never happened. His administration didn’t confuse Singapore with Indonesia and China with Taiwan, nor misidentify the Australian prime minister, nor misspell “Denmark.” Not once did Trump vow to “promote the possibility of lasting peach” in the Middle East. Trump simply did not advise the French to dump water on Notre Dame Cathedral from the sky, nor did he claim that Finland avoids fires by “raking” forests. He didn’t fabricate trade figures in talks with the Canadian prime minister. Neither did he falsely accuse South Africa of “large scale killing” of farmers, nor volunteer any thoughts, ever, on “what happened last night in Sweden.” Trump, furthermore, did not sign the guest book at Israel’s Holocaust memorial with the words “so amazing.” He didn’t pull his name from a Group of Seven communique. He didn’t take a limousine and a golf cart instead of walking with other world leaders at summits. He didn’t struggle with a group handholding exercise in Manila, his knuckles didn’t whiten in the grip of Emmanuel Macron, and Melania Trump did not swat his hand away on the tarmac in Tel Aviv. Furthermore, Trump did not reveal secret Israeli intelligence to Russia. He didn’t accuse Germany of being “totally controlled by Russia.” He didn’t taunt the French over street protests, attack the idea of NATO, use an all-caps tweet to threaten Iran with annihilation, hail “fantastic” strongmen nor pine for the reign of Moammar Gaddafi. Fortunately, it has all been a misunderstanding. For if an American president had actually done even a fraction of the above, it would be an indelible national disgrace.

Clinton- yes and if the case reopens to find Clinton raped underage women, the full weight of the law should come down on him. Same with Prince Andrew, Alan Dershowitz, Donald Trump and anyone else. Don't know where you got Podesta, but the only people claiming that are QAnon (which makes a lot sense when I reflect on all your posts). You know who really looked the other way on this? Try Epstein's lawyers: Alan Dershowitz (you'll note he's implicated as a suspect as well), Ken Starr and Gerald Lefcourt. For those who don't know Gerald Lefcourt, he married into the Sackler family (Purdue Pharma) who now have 36 states suing them over their aggressive marketing and distribution of oxycontin (they own Oxycontin!) without proper oversight. It's a real den of snakes here. Oh oh oh - one more thing. The U.S. State Attorney of South Florida that bypassed normal legal processes to give Epstein a sweet hush hush deal is Alex Acosta, current Secretary of Labour for Donald Trump. Talk about looking the other way. https://www.miamiherald.com/news/local/article220097825.html How a future Trump Cabinet member gave a serial sex abuser the deal of a lifetime https://www.vice.com/en_us/article/pa5zyv/the-jeffrey-epstein-story-is-fanning-the-flames-of-far-right-pedophilia-panic The Jeffrey Epstein Story Is Fanning the Flames of Far-Right Pedophilia Panic https://www.esquire.com/news-politics/a12775932/sackler-family-oxycontin/ The Secretive Family Making Billions From the Opioid Crisis

EXCLUSIVE: Canadian Facebook page weaponized Islamophobia behind facade of "news" "In the case of the National Conservative News Network Canada, the so-called news site was active for more than three years, but Facebook removed it on May 17 after National Observer inquired about it. In a statement, a company spokesperson cited Facebook's policies on hate speech and dangerous individuals and organizations as the reason for the page's removal. According to Facebook's Community Standards, "organized hate" is among the activities prohibited on the platform." https://www.nationalobserver.com/2019/06/03/news/exclusive-canadian-facebook-page-weaponized-islamophobia-behind-facade-news

This is a provincial initiative, so their geographic location shouldn't have had any bearing on their participation in health transformation.
-
All rural health regions were incorporated as separate orgs from WRHA/eHealth and didn't have a choice regarding health transformation.
-
I actually like Westwood and prefer the 1290 pregame show only because I cannot stand listening to Doug Brown. If only Brown had some realization that he is nowhere near as good a commentator as he was a player, he wouldn't come across as such an arrogant ass. I have the utmost respect for Irving and Tait, though.
-
Fair enough, but theoretically all support services (services supporting front line staff like maintenance, housekeeping, IT, dietary etc) should ultimately contribute to patient outcomes in some small way. While the rural regions have been amalgamated twice in the last 20 or so years, it really hasn't happened in Winnipeg so that could be one reason for some of those positions existing. I'm still wondering why St. Boniface isn't part of this whole health transformation thing, which makes me a little suspicious about what's trying to be accomplished. I don't see how that meshes with the whole notion of centralizing decision-making when the second largest hospital in the province is left out.
-
Actually, it's too early to make such a claim about management "bloat". If patient outcomes do not improve over the next few years then it could be said that cutting management was the incorrect course of action. The notion that cutting employees automatically increases efficiency is a product of our shareholder economy where the venture capitalists run the show and public servants are necessarily bad.

It's not the be all and end all. I know this is only my personal experience, but buying booze in Alberta has never left me feeling we need it here. I remember paying $20 for a dozen beer 30 years ago in Banff. I paid more for whiskey in Drumheller 10 years ago than I would have anywhere in Manitoba (that's kind of key). Just went to Edmonton during spring break and the only liquor store in walking distance didn't stock Weiser's and didn't have any kind of cooler on their shelves. In fact, most of the shelves were pretty bare. Now, I've been told that once you've lived there awhile, you figure out where the best places to go are and when the best sales typically happen, but as a tourist - for-profit liquor sales leaves a lot to be desired. I like that in Manitoba you can go to any liquor store and almost always find what you are looking for and that the distribution system is well-regulated. I also have no problem with employees making a decent living doing what they do. If they privatize in Manitoba, Costco will pretty much put everyone else out of business anyway and I'm not sure that race to the bottom is good for anyone.
