2023/2024 CFL (Non Bombers) Off Season News

I believe John Hodge is a teacher. He should stick to that. -
I don't think you switch out older vets for younger players unless there's a valid reason to do so. Like the older player is making too much money. Or the older player's aren't performing anymore & there are guys ready to take their place. Replacing just for replacement sake gets a team a one way ticket to last place. Happy for Jordan Younger as he finally gets to be DC for a Grey Cup contending team. He knows the personnel & I'm hoping he may want to do some things differently. Like making the secondary more aggressive & punishing receivers instead of playing soft. And please..... upgrade the interior of the DL. Get bigger, stronger & meaner.

What will it do? One less team Brown has to choose from. If anything, it's the Mitchell contract that has raised the bar for backup qbs. He's being paid $225,000 plus incentives. The price for backups has gone up. -

What a ridiculous statement, Noeller. Next, you'll say that a player shouldn't be eligible for the Hall because he didn't play long enough because of injuries. -

We can rebuild him. -
Think back to the team we had last year & how toxic things were. Both players who contibuted to it are gone. Everyone seems a lot happier now.

Working with an OC that can teach Cornelius how to read defenses would be a huge boost to his career. Cornelius needs a coach that can help him process the info he has from being a starter in Edmonton to becoming a winner. He needs a line that will block for him. He'd get that here from our linemen. He'd get all of that here working with Buck & Zach. Cornelius sure as hell didn't get it working with Jones & McCadoo in Edmonton. Coming here would rejuvenate his career. Cornelius may have to take a pay cut though. If he's willing to learn. -

So, is this the new bar for backup qbs in the CFL? A base of around $200,000 with incentives to make more. This move allows the Ti Cats to pursue Dru Brown, I'd think. Likely that Hamilton will be his destination. It would be the best team for him to sign with outside of the Bombers. -
We need to get younger at certain positions like MLB. We need to upgrade our interior DL. Our secondary is inconsistent. It can be great one game & shitty the next. Was Demerio Houston a great corner or did he see the football a lot because teams felt they could attack him? I 'd like to see a couple of changes to our OL. There are some young lions ready to step up that need to play but languish on the bench or PR in favour of aging veterans. I'm not sold on Brady being our starting running back if he wants a ton of $$$ to stay. I'd flip the backfield to an American running back because it's the easiest & cheapest thing to do. Schoen has to get re-signed. As far as Booch goes, his constant criticism of the way O'Shea uses the roster wasn't something I paid much attention to prior to this past season. However, as the year went on I started to look at how he built the roster especially with the new DA rules & Booch was absolutely right. Why do we have an American fullback as a DA? Why do we dress players & then not play them? Why are some obviously talented players not starting?? Why do we not build a roster that would make our team better? Then this past Grey Cup, it got to the point of almost being bizarre playing injured Biggie & Schoen in the GC because had we won had they not played their names wouldn't have been on the Cup. Well, we lost. If we had two healthy players at those positions it may have made a difference. If it wasn't for Booch & to a lesser extent Mike, I may have never paid attention to the way the roster was being used. So, props to them for doing that & making me aware of what was going on. It's almost like O'Shea needs to have someone save him from himself. With Walters being a lame duck GM at the time, it appeared there was no one there he was answering to. I sure as hell hope that has changed with Walters new contract.

On both sides of the political scale. Now that the pandemic is over, Bonnie Henry in BC their Chief MO refuses to hire back the health care professionals who refused to mask or vaccinate. She still maintains a vaccine mandate for health care professionals. AFAIK, BC is the only province that still does this. BC has a massive shortage of workers in health care. Over a million plus people have no family doctor. To me, she's just as stupid as that Chief MO in Florida.

Didn't know when to stop? Hmmm, interesting comment considering some of you don't know when to stop either. Do I think Walters can just come in & fire one of MOS coaches without agreement from the HC? No. I don't agree with Booch on that but that's his opinion to which he's entitled. All this piling on of Booch really sucks because this place is greatly reduced if he truly leaves. Generally, his comments are spot on. He knows his stuff & I enjoy his takes but that doesn't mean he's right all the time. But I've always trusted what he says & I'll continue to do so if he comes back. Some of you though, as soon as you don't agree with another poster then the the condescending comments come out. Like clockwork. To be fair, if I point fingers at y'all then I have to point fingers at myself because I do it, too. I can be mean spirited at times. Sometimes our behaviour towards others here is absolutely atrocious. But I'm a tough old bird with thick skin. Doesn't bother me if I get sticks thrown at me but it got to Booch. I'm sad he has decided to leave.

No, more like I'm not gonna pay you so you will **** off. Ottawa will open the vault. He'll sign there & Bob Dyce will destroy him in 5 months. -

It would be the biggest mistake not to sign Schoen & then he comes back to haunt us if he plays for someone else. -

It always happens. "Just a quick heads up. My client's going to free agency". They're not talking contract. They're not tampering. Just info. He'll find a high school or small college somewhere in a small town where he'll coach in obscurity & probably be very happy while selling insurance on the side. -

And yet, there's Damon Allen having done something those same Riders can't do. Win championships. Allen has the same number of Grey Cups wins as a qb that the Riders organization have won in 114 years. -

Hank Burris 2. AC 3, Danny McManus 2. Kevin Glenn 0. Ron Lancaster 1. Doug Flutie 3. Matt Dunigan 2. Tracy Ham 2. Russ Jackson 3. Tom Wilkinson 2. Warren Moon 3. Ken Ploen 3. (Jim Van Pelt was the starting qb for the Bombers in 1958 while Ploen played safety). Ricky Ray 4. Not a lot of plethora winning GC qbs with 4 other than Allen & Ray. The debate is eternal & a lot of fans can't have it both ways. In the sense that Fran Tarkenton & Jim Kelly reached 3 & 4 Super Bowls respectively but never won so there legacy as great qbs mean nothing as the only thing that counts when it comes to greatness are championships. In the CFL, Sam Etcheverry while held in high esteem by the fans that still remember him, is still the qb who lost 3 consecutive Grey Cups to Edmonton. It's all about championships when the greats are being talked about.
