  1. Surprised at the lack of respect the Fox broadcast showed the Chiefs with everyone picking the Eagles. One helluva game for those who think the NFL is boring. It was all offense.
  2. He signed a contract. Honour it. he's probably a free agent next season & would cash in then.
  3. I have no sympathy for that team. From Rourke to Rhymes it's just a Me First team. A week into free agency including the tampering window just who will sign him for $260-300,000? The Riders? Good, Then let him go there & be in an absolute wasteland.
  4. Pizza Hut pizzas are so greasy you can floor surf with them. Fonzie & Elvis could comb their hair with them.
  5. All people care about are the Flames. That's it.
  6. Yeah, same. I'd rather see sold out stadiums then half empty ones. More fun when we beat other teams in their own house. I'm also tired of seeing empty seats & no atmosphere in the stadiums the Bombers play in. There's a real disconnection between the team & the fans in Calgary. It started once Flames owner Murray Edwards (Calgary Sports & Entertainment Corporation) bought the team
  7. The term greatest can mean many things to many people. It's hard to define who is the greatest. Some people would automatically say a sports star. Othere would say a politician. Others would say a musician, doctor, lawyer or actor. So, it can't be just one name or someone from just a single profession. Also, are you a Winnipegger if you were born here but left as a kid & all accomplishments he/she was made somewhere else? Myself, I'd probably say Duff Roblin, the former Premier of Manitoba who had the foresight to come up with the Red River Floodway which has protected Winnipeg from devastating floods since 1968. The house in Riverview where I grew up in was flooded out in 1950 just a few months after they bought it. It was before I was born but our family had some stories about that flood & where they went to stay, Except for my dad who didn't go as he was worried about his Auto Body business that used to be on Marion Street beside the Norwood Hotel. Winnipeg almost had another flood as bad or worse as the 1950 flood in 1966 when we had a ton of snow & a late spring. A fast snow melt & a rainy spring mde the Red River come up again. I remember the city putting up tons of sandbags on Churchill Drive. The River spilled its banks but it only flooded low lying areas. That just made the floodway such a relief when it opened. Interesting that my son's father in law is a recently retired civil engineer who specialized in flood mitigation with the US Army Corps of Engineers. He studied the floodway in university at Washington State back in the 70's & was sent to New Orleans to repair & build up the levies after Hurricane Katrina. He told me that they should have built a floodway like we have in Winnipeg to carry high water around New Orleans instead of levies. He also felt the same way about Grand Forks, ND which has been flooded out as well more than once. He thinks our floodway is simply amazing. Just for building the floodway makes Roblin the greatest Winnipegger ever.
  8. Or he might have fallen flat on his face. Never know. That would have been a head scratcher had the Argos allowed Ouelette to sign with another team & they only had Harris who can't carry the load anymore by himself. Why the name change?
  9. There's no greater tribute to a songwriter or musician when a song they wrote or performed is re-recorded by the next generation or generations of musicians or bands coming up after them. Like the Stanglers shown here. Thing is, you may say you hated all of Bacharach's songs but these guys wouldn't have recorded it if they already didn't know & liked that song. Thery probably grew up listening to that & other Bacharach songs on the radio. Or maybe their parents had records they listened to as kids. The arrangement was punk but the core of the song's still is the same. They payed hommage to it. They didn't destroy Walk On By because they probably liked the original tune. I think that they did a really good job here. Well done.
  10. I know a few Stamps fans & they are livid with the loss of Orimolade & Thurman. Now, Lemon?? Impact players are leaving & they aren't signing any free agents. According to Danny Austin, the former beat writer of the Stamps who now covers the Flames for Postmedia in Calgary tweeted a couple of days ago that the Stamps have no money. A once promising team that looked like it may be a legit contender for the Grey Cup has lost many pieces of that team. I asked Austin why the team has no money? Is it ownership (Murray Edwards) not wanting to spend the money as the team is for sale? Or is Dickenson just being cheap? Austin never answered which is kinda typical for the guy. I've found that he's kind of a stuck up guy who always thinks he's the smartest guy in the room. Whatever is happening, the team is being grinded down & fans are being affected. The team used to engage its base with fan friendly events but now they have very few events. They no longer do the Women's football clinics where female fans are introduced to the game. Coaches & players used to attend & it was a big hit. They used to have an Open House with fans where they could meet the players & coaches. There was a question & answer period with John Hufnagel when he was Head oach & GM. They served food & it was really a great atmosphere. That's gone. The team is absolutely invisible in Calgary in the off season. It's like there is no team. Living here, I've never seen it like this. I fear a situation like Edmonton where no one shows up. The fans I know are not renewing based on what they see as bad ownership & taking their money under false pretenses. That is, not fielding the best team that they can. One guy has been a season ticket holder for over fourty years & he told me he's done.
  11. No big deal.
  12. OMG, again I didn't say that. Quit twisting things that aren't there. Where did I say: 1) She's a black singer? 2. He's a white songwriter? 3. That her contribution as a singer isn't important? 4. That "whitey" songwriter is trying to keep a black woman singer down? You can say that you disagree about Bacharach & Warwick not collaborating & I'd probably agree that perhaps you're right. You can say that you think that Warwick contributed equally to the success of Bacharach & that they both helped each other & I'd probably agree that you're right . This racist stuff is unfair.
  13. That is a huge stretch considering I never used the skin colours of white & black in any sentence. I never said "black singer". I never said "white songwriter". I just said Bacharach made Warwick & he did. She didn't write the songs. Without the songs there are no hits. No one gets rich. No one is famous. No one can hear the music. Warwick can definitely sing but without Bacharach she has no songs to sing. There's no racism in my statement & if anybody thinks that what I said is racist then respectfully you're wrong. The point of view of Noeller is hypocritical. If I was to say that Andy Reid made Patrick Mahomes in KC or Donovan McNab in Philly the qbs they became when Reid coached them both then somehow that is a racist statement. But if I said that Mahomes & McNab made Reid the coach that he is today then somehow that's not racist which makes absolutely no sense. As for Bacharach, you can't even say Warwick made him because he continued to write & have hits with other artists & did film scores after her. She certainly helped make him as a songwriter but only in a small part. Bacharach's contribution to Warwick's career were much larger than hers to his. That has nothing to do with skin colour or race. He was just a talented & phenomenal songwriter.
  14. Why? It's a debate. Let it continue until it's finished.
  15. I also lost two close friends this week. One here in Calgary today & the other in Winnipeg. One to Alzheimers & the other to Diabetes/Pneumonia. It has been a terrible couple of days. I came here to be distracted & was wrongfully accused of a racist comment which sure hasn't helped my state of mind. The other sad thing is I can't go to both funerals which bothers me a lot. I have to decide & only go to one. Sad times. Getting old ******* sucks.
  16. Sorry, man.
  17. As a qb he's failed. The Ti Cats have obviously moved on from him. I'm sure the Cats want to get rid of that contract he's signed. I think if all avenues trade wise are explored & nothing comes of it, he'll be released. They have Schilz who can backup Bo levi Mitchell. It doesn't mean Evans is a failure in life. Football shouldn't define who he is. He's also a Dad & family man. He'll probably get a job & be successful. Not everyone is cut out to be a pro qb & handling the pressure that comes with it. Maybe it's time he moved on as well & got on with his life. I can't see any team beating a drum or be prepared to give up a lot to get him in a trade. That's the facts, Jack. Pro sports are cutthroat. Only the strong survive.
  18. Damned right, I'm ornery. You'd be as well if someone intimated that what you said was racist when it never was meant to be. Go above & find my original comment about Bacharach with the 2 videos & the subsequent comments. As far as @Wideleft goes, I was out of line & I apologize. Great oogly moogly.
  19. Even more important he has to gain the trust of his coaches & teammates. That may be very difficult to do.
  20. Exactly. I wasn't thinking about skin colour or racism when I posted my thoughts. No idea why we're even talking about it. I've liked Dionne Warwick since I was a kid in elementary school. Being called a racist has a way of doing that.
  21. And if she was white it would be the same so no it's not a bad example. I wasn't even thinking about the colour of her skin when I posted what I said. She isn't a black singer or a white singer to me. She's a singer! All I'm saying is that without Bacharach, Warwick wouldn't have had the same success. Look at that list of songs & tell me otherwise. The 2 met & they clicked. The rest is history. What if she had laryngitis on the day of her audition?? Maybe another female singer would have been chosen. It was meant to be. Well bully for you. Thanks for stopping by.
  22. Dieter Brock was given a lot as a young qb. So was Zach Collaros, Henry Burris, Tom Clements, Matt Dunigan, Damon Allen, Tracy Ham, Nathan Rourke, Ricky Ray, Patrick Mahomes, Joe Burrow & a bunch of others. None of them had to work on their head space. You have to be a special breed to be a successful pro qb. Most fail. Evans career is hanging on by a thread. It can go either way right now. It's really up to him to fix it. Coaching can only go so far. Ultimately, he needs to do whatver he needs to do to improve as he's running out of chances. If I'm a GM, I don't sign a qb who is comfortable sharing the qb duties with someone else. I want a backup who wants to play & feels he should be the starter.
  23. The temper tantrums to me with his coaches & teammates tells me that he isn't a great teammate & that he has problems. He can't take on being a starter long term as he just crumbles under the pressure. I can stand a lot watching football but one thing I can't stand are players tossing their teammates under the bus while refusing to take responsibilty themselves. Both Fajardo & Evans are guilty of that. The 2019 Grey Cup, wow. I've never seen a qb act like that. We all remember Jim Barker trying to calm down Evans & he was throwing a hissy fit on the sidelines. Barker knew he & Evans were on television when that happened & Barker had this. "What the hell are we going to do about this guy??" look on his face. Then last year with his season going south fast, Evans did the same thing. Hissy fits on the field & sidelines. At 25 sure, maybe he'd change. At 29, I don't think so. He's already reached his ceiling for potential. What you see is probably what you're going to get.
  24. Why do you think Evans can fix his brain? He's been a pro for awhile now. He's not so young. He's 29 years old. Born November 19, 1993. He signed with the Philadelphia Eagles in 2016 & was released in 2017. He signed with the Ti Cats as well in 2017. He's been with them for going on 6 seasons.
