2022/2023 Off-Season (League/Non-Bombers-specific News)
SpeedFlex27 replied to Noeller's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
I'd be very happy if Matthew Schilz could be signed as a backup to Collaros. Not convinced Dru Brown is the man. -
Wasn't our day as painful as it was to lose. That's about all that can be said.

Don't Look Back - 2022/2023 Bombers Off Season
SpeedFlex27 replied to Wideleft's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
How can you compare the 2? The Bomber medical staff & coaches knew about the injury to Zach. The doctors cleared him to play. Thje Stamps coaches & medical staff knew nothing about Maver's injury. He performed an untruth by not letting anyone know that he was legitimately injured. (I think Maver had a pulled groin). Collaros OTOH was cleared to play & tried his best. Everything Collaros & the Bombers did was open & above board. My understanding was that Hufnagel was so angry at Maver that he nearly cut him as soon as he found out. Maver apologized to the team for his actions. -
Every time Leggs lines up to kick, I just hold my breath & say a prayer that he won't miss.

Don't Look Back - 2022/2023 Bombers Off Season

Give Bighill a DL like we had 2 years ago & he'll play much better. Our defense had some deficiencies this past season that the 2021 defense didn't. We all could see it & knew it. We needed a big DT who could stop the opposing team's run game & pressure the qb by pushing the opposition o-line. The Bombers either couldn't or decided they wouldn't improve what was a deficiency at the tackle positions during the season. Ellingson's performance was very disappointing when he came back but let's be honest when Ellingson was injured, the passing game seemed to be built around him as the centerpiece.. By the time Ellingson came back months later, Schoen had replaced him as the "Go To" guy in the offense & Ellingson became the afterthought. I still have no clue what injury Ellingson had that kept him out three quarters of the season. I just wish we'd concentrate on signing young CFL FA receivers in their 20's like Jake Weineke or Jaelon Acklin. The team needs to be more forthcoming with injuries. fans should know the status of players & when they might be coming back. Walters seems to like signing 30 year old plus receivers who don't last because their bodies are at the end of the line physically from years of being punished by opposing DB's. We need to seriously rethink that strategy. It doesn't do us any good to have old former thousand yard receiving all stars getting paid while spending months being cycled on the 6 game. IL. This seems to happen to every 30 year old plus receiver we sign. -
My condolences on losing your baby daughter. I know it's something you'll never totally get over. My sympathies. Your loss puts what happened to the Bombers in the proper perspective. Losing the Grey Cup wasn't life threatening or the end of the world. It's only a game. Something we all love & take seriously. However, it's still a game. Life on the other hand goes on.

Don't Look Back - 2022/2023 Bombers Off Season

The missed convert prevented us from going into OT & of course we don't know what would have happened if we had. There are place kicker gurus who work with college & pro kickers. The Bombers would be wise to invest in sending Liegghio to one of these kicking coaches in Arizona or California. Or wherever they do their kicking camps. Back in the day both Trevor Kennerd & Bob Cameron used to spend time during the off season in Arizona with kicking & punting coach Gary Zauner who is still working with pro punters, kickers & long snappers in Arizona. If I'm Walters, the more work & quality coaching Liegghio can get this off season, the better. -

Michael Ball has some serious issues trying to tell fantasy from reality. I've never seen someone say those things about a player. This is the pbp guy for the Riders? What if Fajardo does come back? The starting qb has blocked the guy who is the radio voice of the Riders because he says fajardo isn't mentally tough. That he should be an ******* & not a nice guy. Fajardo also as friends in the locker room. Nothing good can come from this. Just based on his tweets, he should be fired. Rod never said anything negative about a Rider player the way Ball did about Fajardo. -

Yes, Collaros never played well but as is the Bomber way, we didn't know the extent of his foot/ankle injury. It's always a big secret with MOS ,not giving any info to the media about the status of injured players. So, I think it was worse than the Bombers made it out to be. "He's okay". Not a concern"is what we heard all week. Therefore, I give Collaros a pass regarding his level of play because of the & the way he gutted it out. -

Missing out on a championship ring whether the kicker is super young or an old veteran is immaterial to me. A miss is a miss. This is pro ball. The Bombers shouldn't be here to train a guy to kick. Or hope he grows into the position as a kicker. Not signing Castillo was a bad move. I don't mind Legs as a punter. He can have that job but not as a kicker as well. Rob Maver was drafted by the Stamps in 2011 as their placekicker & punter. There was one game as a second year kicker where he had a miserable game. Missed something like three or 4 FG's. Turned out he had suffered a leg injury in a previous game & never told anyone so he never received treatment for it. He thought he could clench his teeth & kick his way thru it as he was afraid he'd be cut if he couldn't play. Head Coach John Hunagel, obviously not impressed informed Maver that he was no longer the team's kicker & brought in some free agents o audition for the job. One of them was a young Rene Parades who has been the Stamps kicker ever since. Maver, once released from the pressures of kicking field goals, kickoffs & extra points became an all star punter before retiring. -
How retired is Jason Medlock?

Agree. He's. Not. Coming. Back. -
The Flames owner Murray Edwards could afford to build a stadium himself as he's worth billions but he refuses to spend any money. He's a terrible owner of the Stamps. Neither Edwards or the politicians wants to spend a penny on McMahon Stadium. He's also an absentee owner. He left Canada a number of years ago as he feels he pays too much tax & lives permanently in London, England. KBF, it will never happen.

How would you coach to beat Winnipeg?

This ******* thread should be deleted. -
I told myself that if we lost the Grey Cup that I wouldn't let it consume me like these gamess have in the past. That I'd focus on the positives in my life. I refuse let losing a football game bother me as much as it used to. Maybe it's my age & maturity talking here now but my advice to you is just try to focus on all the positives in your life. Your loving wife, your job. Ice fishing all winter. Your friends & family in Alberta & back in Manitoba. I'm not happy we lost... NO WAY... & that Prukop play sticks in my craw but it is what it is. We can't change what happened so there's no sense dwelling on it more than you need.
-
My dad used to be part pf a big fishing group that always went to Caribou Lake Lodge at Quesnel Lake near Bisset in the 60's & 70's. I can remember some years he went the ice was still on the lake on the May long weekend. Most years the ice had just melted a few days before. But some years it would be touch & go with cold snowy weather. Those guys were hardcore. They'd fish on the water through a snowstorm if they had to. Western Canada in the spring means crap weather. For every one nice day we have two days of snow, rain & cold into June. How many times do we hear people say that "We're gonna pay for this nice weather?" And we usually do. I hate spring football. All these fans who want the season to start in late April or May because it's too cold in November. Well boo ******* hoo. Okay, then we might as well merge with the XFL or USFL & have the season end in August using American rules because that's what is going to happen.
-
You guys have no idea how lucky you are to have IG Field. The Riders are lucky to have Mosaic stadium. Here in Calgary, we're stuck with the dump they call McMahon Stadium. I vowed I'll never go back to a game there 5 years ago. I'll never set foot in that old concrete rock pile of a **** hole again.
-
Sure, okay. Whatever you say. I've read Hamilton will be "all in" next year because they're hosting the Grey Cup so why wouldn't they pay $300.000 for a 1 year deal. Teams will want Lawler & he won't come cheap.
-
Please put an end to this thread. My Gawd. The discussion is just going round & round. It has all the excitement of a spoon.

I grew up in Winnipeg. I was 35 when I moved to Calgary. We all know how bad spring weather can be. I remember some lousy springs when I lived in Winnipeg. Especially if it's a late spring like last year. It's not always nice & warm. Then we also have issues with flooding around the City preventing some out of town fans from getting to the games if they start in late April or May. In Calgary in April & May we get late season spring snowstorms where up to 20 or 30 cms will fall. I've seen some beautiful springs the past 30 years & I've seen some cold, snowy ones. No one will want to sit outside at McMahon Stadium watching a Stamps game in a snowstorm.

From what I've read from the comments on social media the kick was going to the left & he would have missed if it wasn't blocked. A number of people said the same thing. I can only go from what people saw. -

Legs is young. He's cheap. He ain't that good. More reason to keep him & then we deserve all the bad that comes with a decision like that. Like blowing another championship. I don't want a cheap kicker. I want a kicker that kicks good. -
Can I ask you what the difference is between a cold start sitting in snow & rain or minus 4 in November?? Both suck. People aren't going to show up for a game if it's cold. miserable & wet outside in May while the games mean nothing . Spring can have absolutely shitty weather on the prairies that lasts until the end of June. The season got cold for the playoffs this year which was fine with me & a lot of fans. At least in November there's a reason to fo to games.

Not saying we want Stove back but there are big DL like Stove out there. There are some in the CFL who'll become free agents that hopefully we target.
