2024/2025 Blue Bombers Off-Season Thread

Nate passed away, didn't he? Or did get the story incorrectly? -
Twenty five years ago I was good friends with a CFL Head Coach & he gave me the dirt on the team. Players & coahes he liked, disliked & even trades coming down the pike. He trusted me to shut up & say nothing. I knew more about the team than the media guys covering it. I never said a word to anyone when he told me something. But I would have been the exception & not the rule. Others would have started rumours so I disagree with you. Players talk. Coaches talk.

I saw a story on X today that the Raiders are going after Belichek to be their President of Football Operations or some such title. He'd run the Raiders. The guy hires a college staff & then leaves. Then watch, Chris Jones takes over as Head Coach from Bill at UNC. The guy has more livs than a cat. -
Again, our secondary was the reason for that. Think we'll keep Ford?

We played with smoke & mirrors defensively all season. How can anyone say that we have a great D without any kind of pass rush from the DL? Gauthier & Bighill as starting linebackers for the majority of the season. Bomber mgmt refusing to upgrade our front 7. Just satisfied with rushing three & dropping nine because we had one helluva secondary that saved our asses time & time again. Imagine what they could have done with an actual front 7 in front of them.... We are pansies on defense. A paddy cake defense. No physicality. Nuthin'.

There aren't enough quality Canadian assistants being brought up to the CFL from U Sports to have the innovation needed to help make our game more exciting. They lack the experience & knowledge of the rules of the game. Canadian coaches for the most part even if they become OC's, DC's or STC's just follow what they know which is the status quo. We need more NCAA coaches up here like we had years ago but they're not coming anymore like they used to. They seemed to be able to look at our game & find ways to move the ball with trick plays or innovative offenses which came down to their knowldge of fiootball in general. Eliminating the TE & using another slot was Ray Jauch's idea in 1979 while coaching the Bombers. John Hufnagel started using four receivers flooded to one side to create match up issues when he was OC with the Stamps with Flutie. Trouble is, these were over 30 years ago. The problem for CFL teams is the coaches-admin cap which has to go, the low Canadian dollar as American coaches are paid in Canadian money, low pay & lack of benefits the coaches get putting in long hours on a CFL's team's staff. No one from the US really wants to coach up here anymore. Today's game at times just seems stagnant. Recycling old coaches with the same ideas they had on other teams certainly doesn't help. -

That was well over 10 years ago. You know, Dave Smith or Jim Erkenbeck might be interested in coming back here. Oh wait, they died almost 15 years ago. -

One thing the CFL has to do is bring in some new coaches. But guys who are innovative & have fresh ideas. Not the same old, same old. Every CFL offense looks the same. It's the NFL that's innovative & not the CFL. -

How can a college team have a GM when there is aready an AD in place that looks over all of the college teams on campus? I never heard of a college GM before. We may never see Simon again, especially if an NFL team hires him for a personnel role. -

Where the GWL building is. Across the street from the Legislative Building on the west side of Osborne St. -
Now look what you've done. You got Noeller to crawl out of the weeds.

The odd coach on staff who shows he's ready for more responsibility the sure, promote him. But keeping everything else in house is a mistake as Booch says. Do you get the sense there's going to be a run on Bomber assistant coaches? Maybe, we'll see. Lol. That is funny. We'll see. Careful what you wish for. -

I'm sure the Argos will lock him up before free agency. -

The Stamps did all of their hiring in house for years until there were so many coaching offspring as GM's, Head Coaches & Coordinators that they started looking & making coaching decisions like they were from the isolated mountains from Arkansas or Tennessee. Hiring from within just decreases the coaching gene pool & precludes any new ideas or breath of fresh air when it comes to everything from new ideas to team culture. -
I want to wish everyone here salutations & feliciatons. Merry Xmas & Happy New Year to one & all. Just wondering what your plans are over Christmas & New Year's? A quiet Xmas or one dilled with family & turkey? Or whatever you may have for dinner. We're flying to Seattle on the 24th to spend Xmas with our son, his wife & our 5 month old Grand Daughter. My daughter in law's family are coming up from Portland. Their family are all over the US. So, they've all pitched in to stay at a Bed n Breakfast close to where Tyler's place is. We're all going to do a pot luck this Xmas. As they just had a turkey three weeks ago for Thanksgiving it's not on the menu, Yours truly will be cooking a beef roast & a ham as our contribution. Should be a lot of fun & a bit crazy. I used to have huge family dinners & get togethers for Easter, Xmas & birthdays. Or we'd all gather at my brother's cottage at Hillside Beach on Lake Winnipeg. Then over the years, my parents & older family members passed away. Or moved for jobs whatever. Now, 55 years later, we live a quiet life in YYC. I have an older son & his wife here but unfortunately we don't talk anymore. So, this get together will be a throwback to another time for me & I am looking forward to it. Usually at Xmas, I get depressed thinking about the people I loved no longer here. Xmas can be a difficult time for me but by NYE, I've usually shaken it off. That week between the two helps. Anyway, everyone have a great Xmas.

Other teams are moving forward fast. I'm not panicking but teams are making moves to stock their coaching staffs. Monson in Hamilton. Fields in Ottawa. Benevides in BC. Sherritt to Edmonton. We need an OC but just seem to be sitting by watching. -

By God's good graces he didn't lose a team. His going cap in hand to the government in 2020 was an epic fail. What a grifter. No plan. No nothing. Just give us $20 million & we won't tell you how we plan to spend it. Just about everything else he did was a fail. He thinks they're still looking for a team in the Maritimes. Yeah, right. He sucked. The worst Commissioner. Worse than Crump. Worse than Lysko. Worse than Orridge. That's saying a lot. Dude was a liar. Anything he said you could never trust to be true. He just said what people wanted to hear. -
All these series on streaming tv channels like Paramount + or Hulu, Netflix whatever are just throwaways with just 10 episodes. None of them last & are cancelled at the whim of the executives on these channels. You can't even get really invested in them because their seasons are too short. Then you wait a year or more for the next season. Quality or quantity with 10 episodes, you say? Well ****, quality doesn't matter. They cancel them anyway. Hard to really care for any of them than other than just a few shows.
