  1. Chinese government arrogance finally has cost them. No sympathy from me.
  2. To me, you kinda did. Pimball had no management experience either & did more than okay doing that as well. I'm sure with his size he had to put up with guys like you constantly telling him he was too small to play football at any level. let alone coach & manage. My point is, why not give Allen a shot? A decision to hire him would upset the apple cart, no doubt but who wants the same recycled coaches changing teams every couple of years? What value do they have other than having "experience"???
  3. Harry Enns? That was 60 years ago.
  4. I've been saying for years here on this forum that the CFL doesn't do enough for the grassroots level of football in this country. Our Commissioner is a failure. Totally useless. But I'm told I'm just a hater....
  5. No HC will just let his coordinators go carte blanche without his input or control. Colin implied that indeed Pinball was clueless. That other than being a motivator he just took up space on the sidelines & in meetings. That others did the work & he got the credit.
  6. Come on, Colin. A Head Coach doesn't teach but he has to know the plays on both sides of the ball. That's up to the coordinators (unless he's one himself) but he can't be clueless. He has to have credibility with his players.
  7. AC hasn't burned the league up as an OC. He seems to be a conservative OC taking the safe play over the big play although he has the weapons in Montreal to be that big play team with Eugene Lewis, Hergi Mayala, Jake Weineke & Tyson Philpot. I think he needs to still be calling the plays & be a success before he moves up to a HC position. Didn't Maas wina GC as OC in Ottawa with Hank Burris as his qb?
  8. I personally know Craig & I've talked to him about Damon Allen in the past a number of times. At first, I didn't agree with him about Allen being an OC but we have coaches that bounce from team to team & are part of the Old Boy's Newtwork. They get jobs because they know people in the league on different teams. Now I think, why not? I mean, could he be worse than Jason Maas? Or the unknown OC in Saskatchewan? Maybe but maybe not. As far as bouncing around as a player, Ellis said he was the kind of guy who spoke his mind & some head coaches took exception to it. He especially didn't like Jack Gotta & Bob O'Bilovich. He admits his attitude as a player has probably contributed to him not being in the CFHOF. His numbers say he is a Hall of Famer. That's all that should count.
  9. I think Allen has to take the blame. He never got into coaching when he retired 15 years ago. Now, at age 59 he wanrts to be a coordinator. He should have done what Buck Pierce did, Start from the bottom as a running back coach & work his way up. I think he waited too long to decide he wants to be a CFL OC.
  10. That just seems to be the way coaches coach now. Take Ryan Dinwiddie. There were a few fights on the Argos sidelines this season & he just seemed oblivious to it every time it happened. It's like coaches are encased in a bubble all around them & no one can talk to them. Allen still won Grey Cups with something like 4 different teams & put up big passing numbers. I get what you say as when he played at times he looked like he didn't seem to care if he won or lost but the championships count for a lot. I just think that was his personality.
  11. I agree. Allen has to want to take a role as a qb coach & go from there. His age is a factor as perhaps he has 10 years where he can contribute although there are examples of coaches who have coached well into their 70's. The most notable was probably **** LeBeau who retired at age 77.
  12. Not in the Top 500? Are you serious?? That is laughable. How many players scored more than 88 tds & had over 13000 all purpose yards? I dare you to name them. BTW, Craig Ellis was signed by the Bombers in 1982 as a rookie after he was cut by the Miami Dolphins. The Bombers brought in James Murphy at the same time. GM Paul Robson signed them both but they started Murphy ahead of Ellis who was put on the PR. He was eventually released & the Stamps claimed him. It worked out for both.
  13. No, Allen's never coached in the CFL but he did spend one year in the NFL in 2021 under the program they have for coaches of colour to have an opportunity to coach in that league. The same program Hank Burris was a part of allowing him to coach with the Bears in 2021. He's now with the Carolina Panthers but no longer a part of that program.
  14. "This guy" named Craig Ellis played 9 seasons in the CFL. He had 12,828 all purpose yards rushing, receiving, returning punts & kickoffs playing for 5 teams in the CFL. He scored 88 touchdowns during his time in the CFL. He's not a random boisterous fan on social media but a former player. He was Allen's teammate in Edmonton & Ellis was one of the best players to ever lace it up in the CFL. It's true that I don't know how long Allen has been wanting to coach in the CFL & how long he's been trying to get on a coaching staff but I think being a qb coach & with his knowledge having input into the offense of a CFL team would probably be helpful. Should he be an OC & jump over other coaches who have paid their dues coaching as assistants? It's happened before so why not as it'll happen again. To me, it's better than the same old coaches like Maas being recirculated now on his third CFL team as an OC & second as a HC. Giving the second leading passer in CFL history the chance to coach seems like a no brainer to me.
  15. As far as those who can't teach... I had a Grade 7 teacher named Ed Golin at Churchill High. He left teaching to found a retail outdoor store called Go-Line Sports on St. Anne's Road in his 40's. It did very well for a long time but I don't think it's around anymore. Old Ed became a millionaire. He's since passed away.
  16. In some situations but I think new blood means new ideas & concepts. Look how Buck changed the offense when LaPo left.
  17. Question: Former Blue Bomber, Esks, Riders & Argos receiver Craig Ellis has been leading the charge on social media for awhile now that former QB Damon Allen should be hired as an OC in the CFL. At the very least a qb coach but according to Craig, he can't get a job in the CFL. Allen was the CFL's leading qb passing yardage wise until Anthony Calvillo passed him more than a decade ago. Allen is 59 while AC is in his early 50's. My question is, Is their failure to either be hired (in Allen's case) or to move up in AC's case two examples of ageism in the CFL? We constantly complain the same coaches get recycled yet two of the greatest players at their position seem to be frozen out. Is the CFL not giving them the opportunity they may deserve because they think both guys are too old?
  18. Serviceable until things go bad on the field. Then he falls apart. Yep, it's obvious Walters is managing the Bombers like a man who wants out.
  19. The nightmare on Elphinstone Street continues.
  20. The thing is, we don't know how people will think in 30 or 50 years. Society may take a hard turn to the right or left. Then the reaction may be how could YOUR generation have gone that far or not far enough on social issues. As well as how governmant is expected to act. Whatever it is, the generational sentiment will likely change.
