  1. There have been examples of players who were late bloomers say & had very good careers later on. One of them beat us to win a GC this year.
  2. So what? I suppose you are trying to say that Dru's stats are better than Schilz which mean absolutely nothing to me. I just know that some of the same people who are pumping Dru's tires here will turn on his so fast so a comment like yours hasn't a lot of relevance with me. We see posters wanting a change from Marc Liegghio & I'm one of them who is. I'll admit that. I do respect your opinion but quoting a stat like that really means nothing to me. I'm not saying we get rid of Brown. He needs competition to get better. I'm just saying I'd like a veteran qb who has a chance of keeping us winning in the short term if Zach gets hurt. I'm not confident that Brown is that guy. As for Prukop, is he really competition for Brown? As in pushing Brown for the #2 spot? I don't think so. I just want to see competition behind Collaros for that coveted #2 spot.
  3. If I had one message for walters... quit signing 30 & older receivers!
  4. I think Hamilton will make a play for him. It all depends what Bo does. i would hope he'd want to come back here.
  5. Of course, I was talking about Schilz & no one else coming here. If Bo signs he may go somewhere else.
  6. I think everything hinges on Bo's decision. I think Hamilton would be a good fit for him but we'll have to see who he signs with. Evans, pffft. What team really wants to deal with all the emotional baggage he brings with him???
  7. I look at a qb like Taylor Cornelius. The guy is just okay. The Elks will never win with him. Heavy on the word just. He'd be a great veteran backup. Tre Ford is a U Sports qb & being brutally honest, he hasn't faced athletes on defense in Canadian college football like he has as an Elk. His learning curve will be high. The qb situation in Edmonton remains very unsettled. I look at Caleb Evans in Ottawa. Terrible qb. He hasn't shown much in 2 seasons except that he's athletic but has a ten cent head. He will never be a starting qb & isn't even a competent backup. I always thought of him as Lapo's pet project. Argo's Chad Kelly is an interesting prospect & he may be the starting qb in Toronto next season. I see Schilz in Hamilton & I think he can play as a backup/borderline starter. He's the one backup qb that caught my eye this season. Montreal, I have no clue as Harris plays no matter what. Any team that employs a 7 year veteran as their third string short yardage qb like Dominique Davis has nothing worth talking about There's no one in Sask worth discussing either. Marcus Fines was thrown into the fire when Fajardo flamed out. He did his best playing behind that horrible offensive line & the results were the same as when fajardo played. They lost. Hard to judge a backup qb when he's running for his life on every passing play. BC has a plan with Vernon Adams if Rourke leaves otherwise VAJ will be a sought after free agent if Superman returns. Calgary will have a big hole to fill with Mitchell leaving as Tommy Stevens can run but hasn't shown he can actually throw with any consistency because of the nature of his position. He had that one game when he had a coming out party rushing for something like 160 yards against the Riders but... as wbbfan said there's not a lot out there to get excited about. No obvious starter out there in waiting. Which is a scary proposition for the CFL in the long term.
  8. The third stringer gets more playing time than the backup. Does anyone see a problem with that? Albeit it is short yardage it still hinders development of a qb as no one gets better holding a clipboard or continuosly takes short yardage snaps. When a third qb was added to the game day roster years ago, I doubt if that was the purpose of doing that. It was to have a competent backup as the number 2 with a promising young qb as the number 3. He was to develop & eventually push out the older backup veteran. Once he did so, another young qb would come in to push the other qb ahead of him. That was how teams developed qbs & some like Calgary had succession plans. But now, that has morphed into the third stringer being the short yardage qb. The result is these younger qbs just don't learn like they used to. From what I saw whenever he replaced that wacko Dane Evans he did well. He nearly won the East Final when Evans was benched for being a *****. I think if he played the full game the Cats would have won. He did what a veteran backup is supposed to do.
  9. I don't want a franchise guy with Zach coming back for another 3 seasons. I want a competent veteran back up qb who we know can go in & play if Zach is hurt. Let the third stringer learn & eventually push the veteran qb out. That's what I want.
  10. It won't be $175,000. It was a dumb playcall. Anyone who says it wasn't at that time & place in the game well, I dunno what they're thinking.
  11. Noeller, here's a story you'll appreciate. Twenty years ago, I was on the coaching staff of a high school team here in Calgary. The players were great & they tried hard in every game we played but we were awful. Virtually no experienced players or talent. Mostly rookies, We got our asses handed to us every game. We went 0-8 that season. We got shut out in 7 of those 8 games. We were playing (I believe) our 6th game of the year & suddenly out of nowhere our offense started clicking. Our qb was throwing strikes & our fullback started ripping off some nice yardage. He was a big kid but green as grass. I remember he ran straight up. I was his coach. Damn if we didn't have a drive going instead of all the 2 & outs before. We got down to the one yard line. We tried to score but the other team's defense rose to the occasion. So, on third down the HC yells "Field Goal!!!" & out trots our kicker for his first FG attempt of the season. It was from 8 yards out. We thought it would be an automatic three points but... no that wasn't how our team worked. Why take the easy way when you can do it the hard way?? Our kicker missed & the ball sailed thru the end zone for a single point. The kids erupted on the sidelines!!! They didn't care. We scored a point!! We scored a point!! We scored a point!! One measely single point which meant we wouldn't be shut out that season. The players were so happy jumping up & down, giving the Joe Namath one finger salute, hollering. yelling & laughing. You'd think we were City Champs. The other team must have thought we were insane. We ended up losing that game & were shut out the remaining 2 games but it didn't matter. We scored a frigging point!! That's what was so important to the kids. It saved that bleak season for them. Craziest thing I'd ever been a part of. The kicker became a hero on the team. I still chuckle when I think about it two decades later. Just trying to cheer you up, Noeller my friend.
  12. Schilz didn't look awful when he played. At times, he was better than Dane Evans this season, Had Schilz played all of the Eastern Final the Ti Cats probably would have won. We have no idea if Dru Brown will ever be a starting CFL qb. It's all about competition at almost every position. If there are 4 qbs vying for 2 sots behiund Collaros you let each of their performances sort things out. As Osh says, the Bombers don't stand pat. I expect they will sigb a qb or two to push Brown as well as a kicker to push Liegghio.
  13. O'Shea knows he has a contract waiting so he feels no pressure to get it signed. I think he signs within the next 2 weeks,
  14. I'd be very happy if Matthew Schilz could be signed as a backup to Collaros. Not convinced Dru Brown is the man.
  15. Wasn't our day as painful as it was to lose. That's about all that can be said.
  16. How can you compare the 2? The Bomber medical staff & coaches knew about the injury to Zach. The doctors cleared him to play. Thje Stamps coaches & medical staff knew nothing about Maver's injury. He performed an untruth by not letting anyone know that he was legitimately injured. (I think Maver had a pulled groin). Collaros OTOH was cleared to play & tried his best. Everything Collaros & the Bombers did was open & above board. My understanding was that Hufnagel was so angry at Maver that he nearly cut him as soon as he found out. Maver apologized to the team for his actions.
  17. Every time Leggs lines up to kick, I just hold my breath & say a prayer that he won't miss.
  18. Give Bighill a DL like we had 2 years ago & he'll play much better. Our defense had some deficiencies this past season that the 2021 defense didn't. We all could see it & knew it. We needed a big DT who could stop the opposing team's run game & pressure the qb by pushing the opposition o-line. The Bombers either couldn't or decided they wouldn't improve what was a deficiency at the tackle positions during the season. Ellingson's performance was very disappointing when he came back but let's be honest when Ellingson was injured, the passing game seemed to be built around him as the centerpiece.. By the time Ellingson came back months later, Schoen had replaced him as the "Go To" guy in the offense & Ellingson became the afterthought. I still have no clue what injury Ellingson had that kept him out three quarters of the season. I just wish we'd concentrate on signing young CFL FA receivers in their 20's like Jake Weineke or Jaelon Acklin. The team needs to be more forthcoming with injuries. fans should know the status of players & when they might be coming back. Walters seems to like signing 30 year old plus receivers who don't last because their bodies are at the end of the line physically from years of being punished by opposing DB's. We need to seriously rethink that strategy. It doesn't do us any good to have old former thousand yard receiving all stars getting paid while spending months being cycled on the 6 game. IL. This seems to happen to every 30 year old plus receiver we sign.
  19. My condolences on losing your baby daughter. I know it's something you'll never totally get over. My sympathies. Your loss puts what happened to the Bombers in the proper perspective. Losing the Grey Cup wasn't life threatening or the end of the world. It's only a game. Something we all love & take seriously. However, it's still a game. Life on the other hand goes on.
  20. The missed convert prevented us from going into OT & of course we don't know what would have happened if we had. There are place kicker gurus who work with college & pro kickers. The Bombers would be wise to invest in sending Liegghio to one of these kicking coaches in Arizona or California. Or wherever they do their kicking camps. Back in the day both Trevor Kennerd & Bob Cameron used to spend time during the off season in Arizona with kicking & punting coach Gary Zauner who is still working with pro punters, kickers & long snappers in Arizona. If I'm Walters, the more work & quality coaching Liegghio can get this off season, the better.
  21. Michael Ball has some serious issues trying to tell fantasy from reality. I've never seen someone say those things about a player. This is the pbp guy for the Riders? What if Fajardo does come back? The starting qb has blocked the guy who is the radio voice of the Riders because he says fajardo isn't mentally tough. That he should be an ******* & not a nice guy. Fajardo also as friends in the locker room. Nothing good can come from this. Just based on his tweets, he should be fired. Rod never said anything negative about a Rider player the way Ball did about Fajardo.
  22. Yes, Collaros never played well but as is the Bomber way, we didn't know the extent of his foot/ankle injury. It's always a big secret with MOS ,not giving any info to the media about the status of injured players. So, I think it was worse than the Bombers made it out to be. "He's okay". Not a concern"is what we heard all week. Therefore, I give Collaros a pass regarding his level of play because of the & the way he gutted it out.
  23. Missing out on a championship ring whether the kicker is super young or an old veteran is immaterial to me. A miss is a miss. This is pro ball. The Bombers shouldn't be here to train a guy to kick. Or hope he grows into the position as a kicker. Not signing Castillo was a bad move. I don't mind Legs as a punter. He can have that job but not as a kicker as well. Rob Maver was drafted by the Stamps in 2011 as their placekicker & punter. There was one game as a second year kicker where he had a miserable game. Missed something like three or 4 FG's. Turned out he had suffered a leg injury in a previous game & never told anyone so he never received treatment for it. He thought he could clench his teeth & kick his way thru it as he was afraid he'd be cut if he couldn't play. Head Coach John Hunagel, obviously not impressed informed Maver that he was no longer the team's kicker & brought in some free agents o audition for the job. One of them was a young Rene Parades who has been the Stamps kicker ever since. Maver, once released from the pressures of kicking field goals, kickoffs & extra points became an all star punter before retiring.
  24. Agree. He's. Not. Coming. Back.
