  1. Looks like Jason Kenney won't go away even if he loses his leadership review. Everybody despises him. It doesn't matter what political party Albertans support. They can't stand him. May 2023 can't come soon enough. Braid: Kenney lowers the traditional bar for keeping his party leadership (msn.com)

  3. Probably the worst program in the NCAA at the time. I could tell you stories but it would sound like sour grapes if I said anything more. I will say one thing positive. Tyler's QB Coach was Joe Paopao. In March 2015, he blew out his hamstring training in the off season before his senior year. He should have had surgery but was misdiagnosed. He was sidelined during Spring Practice in April. He was limited as to what he could do at the main camp in August. One of the things Tyler liked to do was be a mobile qb. Scrambling & throwing on the run. He couldn't do any of that & it wasn't until early October where he could actually go into a game & at least move around a little bit. For 2 years, Tyler battled for the starting position with another qb. The other qb was a transfer fron North Dakota State while my son played 2 years of JUCO in California. They botgh were recuited the same year. He was looking forward to competing for the #1 qb position until he was hurt. That hamstring injury meant he had no chance to really play & he only appeared in 3 games as relief. The losing & his injury was a frustrating experience as it wiped out his senior year. He told me that Joe was a great sounding board & they spent hours during & after the season talking football & being a sponge listening to him & his advice. He said it made the season way more pallatable. Joe should have been the HC & Bates an assistant but that was typical of the problems at SFU at that that time. They had coaches put into the wrong positions, It made no sense.
  4. Put some armour & guns on that yacht & it's a warship.
  5. Yes, I feel exctly the same. Both my parents were 1st generation Canadians being born in Manitoba. I had a couple of Uncles born overseas. They & their parents immigrated to our country from Europe. They both would have known their family's stories but no one asked... I never asked... & they never talked about it which was typical of my parent's generation.
  6. I'm Ukrainian on my Mom's side. She was fluent in Ukrainian & English & could switch back & forth mid sentence. Something I didn't truly appreciate until she was gone & I was much older. My Uncle absolutely hated Russians. All Russians. It didn't matter who they were or where they came from. Politicians or civilians he hated them all. I found that out one day when I was a teenager & made some flippant remark to him saying something like, "Russian & Ukrainian. It all sounds the same. There's no difference". I never saw him so angry with me as he was that day & said some things that set me straight in his broken English. Enough to know to never say anything like that again. This was a man who saw his family suffer under Stalin in the 1930's & was conscripted to fight for the Soviets in WW2. I never found out the story of how he got out & came to Canada. Eventually marrying my Mom's sister. Now, it's too late. He's gone as are my parents, uncles & aunts. I have no cousins alive to ask either. It's sad that when people are alive we don't care to ask & then questions about family history go unanswered forever. I may still have family in the Ukraine for all I know. My Mom's family came to Canada in the first decade of the 20th Century & settled near Rossburn. My Mom was born in 1912 & died in 1985. So, I'll probably never know if anyone in the Ukraine today are family.
  7. As well as armed civilians who'll engage in guerilla warfare. There will be heavy Russian casualties even if they capture the Ukraine.
  8. Indeed. We may be back to Square 1. People may be tired of restrictions but that doesn't mean Covid is tired of us.
  9. One more reason to not vote Conservative ever again.
  10. Only a small percentage of college qbs actually start & play pro. As far as SFU goes, yeah it was unfortunate but everyone has moved on. Some are playing in the CFL. Others are coaching. Former players are living their lives & probably don't think too much anymore about the years they spent at SFU. My son is now coaching qbs in Seattle & is enjoying the coaching & mentoring that he does. SFU was a disaster under Bates. Scores of 50-0, 60-0 & 70-0 were common during his tenure. Poor coaching, poor recruiting, politics, favouritism. kack of support from university administration, you name it. Things were ****** up. A poorly run program. It still isn't where it should be competitively but I think things are better now. They finally built a stadium on campus for their games. That 3 season losing streak was epic. The only satisfaction a lot of Bates former players took was that he never won a single game as HC.
  11. There will be more than a few Russian Generals who'll never be seen again.
  12. Every despot has met their end violently. Hitler, Mussolini, Saddam Hussein, Gaddaffi. They were all overthrown. I expect at some point the same thing will happen to Putin.
  13. No, the NCAA doesn't operate like a pro league. The players don't get paid to play. The NCAA doesn't prepare them for life in the pros or even life itself. The pressures of the game at that level takes care of that. Players have to mature & grow up fast. There's not only pressure to perform & win but also pressure as a student-athlete. While other students are still sleeping in their dorms, players are hitting the gym lifting at 6 in the morning, followed by meetings early in the morning, then going to their classes, more meetings in the afternoon & then practice from 4 until 6pm. Players had to learn to manage their time appropriately during the season or they'd get swamped. Juggling school & playing football were both huge time committments. Some players really struggled. Some left the team as they were falling further & further behind. Luckily, my son was able to handle it all & graduated from SFU in May of 2015. You'd be shocked at how little the HC cared about his players. Once my son's football season was over, he wanted nothing to do with him or the other seniors anymore. Their usefullness to him was finished. The HC refused to set up a Pro Day for his players even though Jacques Chapdelaine did the year before for his guys & Dave Johnson before that. The HC didn't talk any of them up with CFL or NFL teams. Michael Couture & Lemar Durant were part of that senior graduating class in 2015 along with my son & they went 0-10. Should I say his name? Kelly Bates. If there ever was a guy so not ready, having none of the answers to all of the questions & in over his head it was Bates. He thought he was the smartest guy in the room when he wasn't. Bates didn't care about any of his players as he never recruited them so he was busy shuffling the Senior players out the door once football ended so he could bring in his own recruits such as they were. Players hated Bates too as he alienated them so they stopped playing for him. He went 0-29 at SFU before he was fired. Bates entire time as HC was a **** show. From everything I heard, he sucked the fun out of the sport for most of the players. Anyway, this conversation is going in circles & I'm not interested in talking about it any further. You're welcome to think whatever you like. I really don't care.
  14. Physically, yes. Absolutely there's a difference between an 18 year old hockey player coming out of junior & a 22 year old college football player. My problem is when someone calls the NCAA a developmental league when it's not. When teams develop players it means they drafted them & have a plan for these young players. Teams want them to be come better at the position they play whether it be at qb or defensive lineman. Teams can't develop their own players if they're playing college football as they aren't part of a pro football organization. Teams hope but they don'tknow if a player can even play at the pro level or their team's system. The NCAA is its own entity using players to make massive amounts of $$$ for the schools they play for. They really don't have any interest in developing players for the NFL. Instead, it's all about colleges qualifying for Bowl games or winning the NCAA FBS National Championship. As well as the recruiting & financial rewards that come to these colleges, athletic directors & head coaches. The NHL & MLB have a development system in place whereas pro football does not. But in the NBA there are more players available in the pool of talent than football as rosters are much, much smaller. The NBA also does have a Summer League so players can go there for seasoning. Most NFL & CFL players once they're cut if no one picks them up on waivers or as free agents, it's time to get a real job. To say the NCAA is a developmental league is ludicrous as it's not.
  15. Yeah, I admit that18 year olds hockey prospects aren't as physically developed but the argument that GCn20 makes that the NCAA is a developmental league is wrong as well. The CFL & NFL games are faster than the NCAA, the players more experienced & the mental & physical part of the game is tougher. What do NCAA teams play? An 11 or 12 game schedule & then a Bowl game with a month off if they're on a good team. The CFL plays an 18 game schedule, then two playoffs (if they don't clinch 1st place in their division) & the GC. The NFL has 17 games, playoffs & SB. The 21 year olds from the NCAA have never faced the pressure or grind of the pro game. Some are ready. Most aren't. If they aren't then they have nowhere to go. They don't have their college teams to go back to or a pro developmental league. Game's over for them.
  16. Sure, that's why 90% of NCAA players get cut.
  17. bailey is a great possession receiver. He is the heart & soul of our receiving corps. Looks like Ellingson has replaced Lawler so Rasheed will just keep doing what he does. Which is pretty damned good. I also can't believe we're done signing free agent receivers.
  18. Man, I used to be a proud Conservative. I admired Sir John A, Diefenbaker & Mulroney. I looked up to Eisenhower & Reagan. Now pffffft. The simpletons in power on both sides of the border are pathetic. I can't support these assclowns anymore so as a disaffected Conservative, where do I park my vote? Maybe I won't vote. Nobody deserves my support.
  19. Of all the teams in the Eastern Division, I hate the RedBlacks the most. Ever since they came back they act like the CFL owes them. Can't stand this sense of entitlement that Desjardins built with the team & it's fanbase.
  20. Sorry, no sympathy for Burke & the RedBlacks. He can go suck a lemon.
  21. We can say the same thing about the RedBlacks raiding other teams rosters. This, "WHY? WHY? WHY???" crying is so childish. Ottawa, BC & Edmonton drove up salaries & then they ***** & complain??? Reminds me of a punk who carries thinking he's the biggest & baddest dude out there until he meets someone who is bigger & badder than him and calls him out. Burke just thought throwing $$$ at players would solve everything until another team did the same thing. As much as I hate Chris Jones, if it ended up coating Burke more money than he wanted to pay then that's good. The people that run this league..... What a joke. One more thing. the RedBlacks have the worst HC & OC in the CFL. I don't care how good Massoli plays, he'll have the yoke of Paul LaPolice around his neck on every play holding him back. Can't squander a ten point lead in the second half.
  22. Morons everywhere don't accept the premise of that remark.
  23. Kenney just moves these idiots to other portfolio's so they maintain their salaries. It really is disgusting.
  24. I hate merged threads as it really skews the discussion. Why do we have this feature anyway?
