  1. Community ownership relies on the support of the business communities in each city. I don't see that in Edmonton. They have lost tens of millions of dollars the past 2 seasons. As have others but Edmonton, wow...
  2. If I was Commish: Get rid of one year deals. Try to put an end to unrestricted free agency. The only ones eligible are players with 6 years or more experience or about to sign their third contract. Otherwise any other free agent signing with another team must give up appropriate draft picks & receive compensation from the team signing that player. Get rid of the NFL window. Only CFL free agents can work out. Players still under CFL contracts cannot. Get rid of the salary cap on asst coaches & scouting. Bring back at least one more position assistant coach. Bring back a 3rd qb. It shouldn't just be Canadian as there aren't that many good U Sport qbs. around It should be a rookie position only. The #2 qb could then be a veteran. Get rid of the 18 game schedule. Go back to a 16 game schedule with 2 exhibition games. Only have one bye week & then only after the 8th game. Start training camps May long weekend. Have a controlled scrimmage with ahnother CFL team. Season starts last week of June /July long weekend & GC second or third week of November. Put a cap on CFL Presidents & GMs salaries. No more half million dollar salaries for Club Presidents while some lowly assistant get $45,000 with no benefits. Give a pension plan to coaching & scouting staff along with dental, life & health insurance. Lower single game day ticket prices by 35-50%. Lower concessions & parking. Survey fans on what kind of pre & halftime entertainment they want to see. Tell TSN that Canadian Country has to go. To use a more variety of music during broadcasts including country. Try to get Global, CBC, CTV or City TV network interested in bidding on broadcast rights. Finally, make the CFL respect the fans once again. Don't put the needs of players ahead the needs of fans, Make them feel egaged again.
  3. Bomber fans today who weren't around when Dave Raimey played for the Bombers have no idea just how good he was & the moves he put on would be tacklers. He wasn't called The Knife for nothing. Playing on brutal Bomber teams with sub par offensive lines & crappy qbs defenses could key on him & he still was a thousand yard rusher. Put him on a powerhouse team like Ottawa, Calgary & Sask at the time & he'd have been a 1600-1700 yard rusher. He was traded early season in the 1969 season to the Argos where he shared the same backfield with another thousand yard all star halfback by the name of Bill Symons. A season ending knee injury in 1970 ended his career as an offensive halfback but in 1971 he switched to cornerback & played very well at that position until 1975 when he retired.
  4. I had some favourites when I was much younger. The Bombers were like the Elks back in the late 60's with very few great players. We couldn't score touchdowns on offense & we couldn't stop teams from scoring them. We used to get our asses kicked on a weekly basis. We had one superstar in HB Dave Raimey whom we traded for Argos QB Wally Gabler. There wasn't much after Raimey left so I liked some players from other teams. My favourite was Stamps QB Peter Liske. The first CFL qb to throw for 4000 yards in 1967. Another was Lions Jim Young. The wingback/SB for the Lions was a phenomenal player & one of the true characters in the history of the league. He wrote a bestseller in 1973 called Dirty 30 (his nickname as a player). Then there was Halfback Rudy Linterman of the Stamps. He was the first player I ever saw who had long hair flowing out of the back of his helmet & he wore low top white shoes while the other players wore high top black boots.
  5. Every game this weekend had tens of thousands of empty seats. The games have no more atmosphere or exitement. I don't know what to think anymore except that I'm worried for the future of the CFL.
  6. I've never felt Aaron Grymes is as good as his reputation seems to be.
  7. A lot of it has to do with the shape of the football. It ain't round so sometimes the bounces can go either way. Teams have good days & bad days. The Elks good days are still worse than our bad days so a game may be closer than we'd like it to be. Is my analogy making sense or should I just quit while I'm ahead. 😉
  8. We don't know if Chevy stayed silent??? How can you even say that? Holy .... ! He has never spoken about it.
  9. Just one more thing regarding sexual abuse. When I coached football, I was a bantam HC here in Calgary. This was back in 2003-2005. I instigated a team rule at practice or games that any coach or volunteer that needed to take a player back to our locker room to treat an injury or fix an equipment problem with a player couldn't do it alone. At least 2 adults always had to be present at all times when a player went back. To protect not only the player but the volunteers or coaches themselves.
  10. My son Tyler played football for Simon Fraser University from 2012-15. He played Junior College in California after playing two years iof Junior football with the Rifles. So, he was 22 & nearly 23 when he went to SFU as a qb. They wanted to haze him with the 18 year old rookies. He just looked at the veterans wanting to do it, stared them down & said there's no way he was going to allow it. As he was 4 years older than some of the veterans on the team & he was a qb, they backed down. Refusing to be hazed never affected his relationship with any player after that as he was elected as a captain his second year & was very close with a lot of guys in the locker room. Of course, he was always thought of as the Old Man on the team. FIFO doesn't mean anyone should take abuse from anyone associated with their team..
  11. I always used to look forward to seeing the Super Dogs as well. Just great entertainment!! The Brits always do the play by play proud!!
  12. He looks sour all the time. No fun in his eyes. No. No. No. I want us to be underdogs. I want no one to respect us. That way we play angry & focused.
  13. I want to put my Border Collie into Flyball.
  14. As far as it needs to go. Whoever else knew & did nothing. These men in the meeting KNEW. They did nothing. They are complicit & should have been fired. Not allowed to resign.
  15. Simple answer would be that LaPo isn't a qb. He doesn't talk their language or knows truly what they go through or see on the field as he was a receiver in college. Jacques Chapdelaine was the same. He was never a qb but a slot at SFU & in the CFL. Buck & Dickenson know what a qb needs to succeed. LaPo may think he does as well but he doesn't.
  16. If Cheveldayoff knew about this & lied then the next move should be his firing.
  17. I wasn't inconsolable. I was spitting mad watching from my rec room in Calgary. Followed by moments of numbness, disbelief & shock. It was a Cal Murphy initiative. He wanted to change the look of the team.
  18. I thought that 1988 & 90 defense hit hard but the 2021 version just flows to the ball & is much more physical.
  19. Yes. GREAT post!!
  20. One angry Argo fan in social media was wondering what MBT we'd see now? Dr Jekyll & Mr Hyde?? This is a prime example why players like Arbuckle should never assume that coaches they previously played for will have their backs on another team. He probably feels that Dinwiddie stabbed him in the back.
  21. No kidding. What's the point? Would the ones saying they were right be happier if they were wrong? MOS came into his own as a HC in 2016 & 17. I was wrong & I'm glad I was. I would defend Mike as a hill to die on, now. Yeah, I wanted him gone but we were geting hammered in 14 & 15. Do the fans that hated Matt Nicholls going to admit that it was Matt Nichols who turned things around for us at qb? It just seems pointless. Just enjoy the fact that we will probably repeat as GC champs. We hope.
  22. A third round pick? That, makes no sense if you're an Argos fan. I know a few longterm Argo fans on social media that aren't happy.
  23. Yeah but a CFL GM doesn't say that kind of thing publicly. They don't diss another struggling team. He was feeling cocky & arrogant. Karma took a few years but it finally got him.
