I was watching about 35 minutes of TSN coverage today of the Grey Cup. I had to turn it off as the talk of how great the Argos are just kept on & on. Yeah, occasionally they'd mention Zach but barely no reference of Oliveira for the Bombers. LaPo did say if the Bombers took care of business that they'd win. Jim Barker, who never gives any credit to Winnipeg on anything was all Argos. He thinks the Argos DL will kill our OL. Now, maybe they will but I think redemption is on the minds of our OL. So, I just turned it off. **** TSN. They just can't stay neutral. They also had some random dude talking about Grey Cup betting on Fan Duel listing the odds for this & that. Thankfully, I'm not a gambler so most of this talk just goes in my one ear & out the other. Dude was definitely leaning to the Argos winning, surprise, surprise.... Here's one stat that they never talk about when betting. The Argos are undefeated since 1983 at the Grey Cup. Eight straight wins which is why they're miles ahead of us & Edmonton in most GC championships with 18. That is an incredible streak but all streaks come to an end... Plus we have never beaten Toronto in the GC ever going back to the 1940's. They can't keep that **** up. Argos are waaaaay overdue for a loss. Bet accordingly.

An inexperienced Jones is still better than a cooked Bighill. It's no coincidence we've played better against the run since Bighill got hurt. He's done as a player & yet still thinks he can play. And Osh will give it to him. That's the scary part.

Just want to add... maybe U Sports is where LaPo will land as a HC. He could probably last at a university until he was ready to retire. That would be a sweet gig. -
What about building a new 35000 seat stadium in Montreal & moving the team there? The team could use Olympic Stadium in the interim. Are the Bronfman's still involved in trying to bring a MLB team to Montreal?

I'd think most people in the know around the league would offer more money to Ford than Streveler. I know Walters would. -

If Buck left for the Lions, the only solace I would take is that he turned down the Riders (ha, ha ) & he's in another Grey Cup game. How sweet is that?? How can someone like Corey Mace win COTY after a 5-2 start then lose 7 in a row & finish second in the West. Mostly by default as Calgary & Edmonton were so bad. Meanwhile, Osh went 0-4 dealing with injuries at the start of the year, at one point we were dead last in the West. He had to replace Lawler & Schoen who were both out at the same time. Break in a new OL in Lawson, deal with the loss of Stan for 4 games which meant even more juggling on the OL. Then go 2-6 & win their next 9 gamess, shoot up the standings to finish first in the West & are now set to appear in their fifth GC in a row & he wasn't even nominated for COTY????? Like WTF???? There are some pretty stupid media members showing their biases & favouritism covering this league. Especially at TSN. -

I have absolutely no problem with that as long as it is an actual competition. Not an annointment. Certainly with a new OC I think it would be. Wilson is younger & has some skills so we don't know his ceiling but he has grown a tad as a qb this year. I'd hope we'd try to sign some actual CFL free agent qb talent if we can or keep recruiting. I'm really hoping the UFL folds after this season & some more qb talent becomes available unless the NFL swallows them all up. Yeah, I know my comments are all over the map here. Don't be ridiculous. If you want Costello replacing Buck more power to ya, -
Bailey was a a team player & both teams walked all over him. Sad.

I'm pretty hesitant to hand Streveler the keys to the new car if Zach retires with all the other qb talent available who are better but will be on the move this off season. Ford has a higher ceiling, the kid from the Als. Adams will be going somewhere. Not here but somewhere.... Winnipeg might be a very attractive place to be if one of these guys knows he only has to wait a year. Plus, can you actually see Streveler earning starter money as QB1? I just can't. Not with his age & mileage on his body. They gave Del Monaco a shot as OC in calgary & look how that turned out. -
Osh won't tell him to quit, though.

The interview process may go something like this. Buck, do you want the HC job? Yes, OK or Buck, do you want the HC job? No. OK. I can see the interview process being very quick. Likely, starting Monday & maybe even finished that day or next if he's Candidate #1. Yes, Allen wants to be an OC but now in his 60's doubt it will happen. Streveler turns 30 on January 5th. -

They sure waste LaPo's talents in the role he's in now. He should be a full time panelist replacing Muamba. Those 3 names sure inspire confidence in me as a fan. -

if you're an older career coach like LaPo (54 years old) you can't stay away from coaching too long as the perception would be the game has passed you by. His future as a HC is probably over. Only thing left at the CFL level is to be an OC. Plus other younger coaches start to emerge that have bright futures as well so now he's competing with younger coaches which is never good. LaPo's wife married a football coach so she should know how things work. As Elvis once crooned, "It's now or never." The only other alternative is to stay in the media & cover the CFL full time. -
He just said he wants to play.

Speculation on X yesterday that Rick Campbell will be fired as HC of the Lions on Monday. Ryan Ringmaiden will then be the full time GM in Vancouver. campbell then ends up in Edmonton as their HC. farhan Lalji isn'y denying it. Some big changes coming in Lionsville. These old, recycled coaches keep bouncing around. How is this any different to what a publicly owned Elks team would have done?? This league needs some new blood badly. -

There are no great ball hawks anymore. You don't see DBs with double digit interception numbers anymore. Numbers are down but the coverages may be better. QB's have way better accuracy than a generation ago & defensive backs play more zone or combos than they did in the 70's & 80's when double digit picks were the norm. Defensive secondaries are much more complex now. Can you say Vernon Adams to Hamilton? I knew ya could. I fully expect that Bo will sign with the Riders then have a crap season & retire. No, I heard that he hates the Stamps. -
Milligan better be buying Glen Suitor drinks all night because it really was him & TSN who pushed for the guy to win over Beverette. These guys should shut up & stay neutral.
-
We're finally getting our linebacking crew in order after Bighill was injured & says he's coming back next season. Guess that means that Osh will kick Tony Jones to the sidelines or practice roster in 2025.
-
Cue the Go Fund Me account in 3, 2, 1... All Cox Jr was doing was practicing lifting the Grey Cup with one finger per hand. Oh, wait... Riders don't win Grey Cups now do they?
-
Disagree. Streveler is old. In his early 30's. He can't throw with any consistency so we don't need him. Pierce knows that Streveler can't go all i on the playbook so he's given a group of plays that Buck thinks he can actually handle. We won't make the GC in 2025 let alone win it with him at the helm if Zach goes down. Our offense will be severely limited with him at the helm. Time to get on with grooming a new starter for after the 2025 season.

Yep, all Suitor talked about was Milligan. He barely talked about Ford. There are no real ball hawks in the CFL anymore. Guys with double digit interception numbers as in years past but guys like Ford cover so well & are tough to beat. Tyrell's just getting started in his career. I hope we can sign him to a long term deal. TSN killed the event & made it irrelevant. Scarf Boy just sat there & watched the awards ceremony become the awards cemetary & did nothing. All while proclaiming what a great partner TSN was. **** Ambrosie. Glad he 's leaving... Five years too late. The guy was too stupid to realize the only way to grow the game is to showcase your stars, for crissakes. Televising the awards event & the CFL Draft need to be a part of the next tv contract. -
Game 16 : @ Where The Rubber Meets The Road
SpeedFlex27 replied to FrostyWinnipeg's topic in Winnipeg Jets Discussion
I have lived in Winnipeg. Born & raised there. I live in Calgary now. I can tell you I've been to Edmonton enough to know it's not any better than Winnipeg. Buffalo is a POS. Minneapolis has brutal winters as well. I've seen it snow here in calgary in August. One year back in the 90's, my wife & I took my In Laws from Winnipeg to see the Calgary Stampede Chuckwagon races & stage show. Early July & the temp was +2C. My father asked me, "How can you live in this place?" Players retire around 35 on average... they have maybe 50 years after hockey to live in paradise. That decade & a half short window closes awfully fast. Especially as players get odler. Sean Moynahan could have stayed here. The Jets wanted him but he chose to play for Columbus. A team that looks like it'll finish last in the NHL. He got his money. I guess that usurps championships. -
I don't think that anything bothers this generation of players. They just don't care.
