  1. LaPo wasn't a failure just ultra conservative with a lead. LaPo would be calling a great game then get a 2 TD lead & completely change the calls where it would be draws & underneath stuff. We'd end up going 2 & out series after series after series. Instead of doing what was working & scoring more points we'd need our defense to pull the game out. I haven't seen that from Buck. We still push the ball downfield even with a lead. Buck & Zach play to win. LaPo & Nichols played not to lose. I don't know if you heard the comments of the panel before the Ottawa game yesterday or not. The reason Ottawa cut Arbuckle was because he was unhappy with LaPo's offense & wanted no part of it so HC, OC & QB were butting heads. Arbuckle wanted out of Ottawa so Desjardins cut him & the RedBlacks picked up Nichols after the Argos signed Arbuckle & cut Nichols.
  2. Maybe the most troubled Blue Bomber was Mack Herron. Such a talented halfback who came from The Hood & Mean Streets of Chicago. Caught up in drugs & gang life. Even though pro football got him out of a dangerous situation, he never left the lifestyle. He had behaviour & discipline issues in college, here in Winnipeg & New England. When he left football in the mid 70's he went back to Chicago & right back into the same lifestyle he had before college. He was arrested 20 times after football & spent more time in jail than he did outside & died in his 60's in the Windy City. A real sad story.
  3. Are you on some kind of crusade? No one else has 9 TD passes this year. Offensive production is down this year a lot because of the year off & no exhibition season. Your stat means absolutely nothing.
  4. When he coached in Calgary he had to put up with Owner & GM interference all the time. I remember reading that the entire Stamps organization had a retreat to Kananaskis Country in November 2003 after the season ended. It may have been the Fairmont Hotel & Resort. Everyone was invited to go except Barker. He had to play the owners son at QB or be fired. He had a GM (Fred Fateri) that was actively trying to be Stamps President. The owner promoted Kicker Mark McLoughlin to team President over Fateri after the current President at the time Stan Schwartz resigned in disgust. McLoughlin became Barker's boss while still kicking for the Stamps. They fired McLoughlin early in 2004 & the PR Guy Ron Rooke took over. Barker became the GM after Fateri was fired when he made some offensive remarks to a local reporter. Barker became the GM, HC , Player Personnel Director & OC. McLoughlin & Rooke fired Barker 3 days before Christmas. They had told him they wanted to discuss some player personnel issues with him & they scheduled a meeting in McLoughlin's office. They lied so they could ambush him & fired him. He had 30 minutes to clear out his office. Meanwhile, they had already hired Matt Dunigan & he was secrettly in town before Barker was fired. They introduced him less than 24 hours after Barker was fired as the Stamps new HC. It was a **** show. No coach ever had to put up with what Barker went through. All the selfish lying & conniving. I'm amazed Barker & Duniugan are on speaking terms. No one ever talks about McLoughlin anymore even though he was the Stamps leading scorer at the time.
  5. I think as teams go you're right. The BCFC is below the Prairie League because they have teams in smaller cities. But I think there are more individual stars in the BCFC. Andrew Harris came from there. So did Jamal Lyles. That Simonise kid that tried out in Cleveland & here now plays for the Alouettes played for the Sun & my son Tyler coached him there. More of the BCFC players seem pro ready compared to the Prairie League.
  6. I wish I could send him a message on behalf of all Bomber fans saying there's only one player from his team today that could make the Bombers (K Lewis Ward). The rest are garbage. Just like he said about us during the expansion draft in 2014. I'll njever forgive him for that cheap shot. Maybe he was right as the Bombers were brutal back then but he should have kept his comments to himself.
  7. When I was single back in the 80's I used to frequent a bar called The Marble Club. It was THE PLACE at the time. I saw a lot of pro athletes in that place but I'll just talk about two. The first was former Ranger goalie & now hockey executive John Davidson. At that time he was an NHL analyst. I went to the bar to order a drink & while doing so he came up alongside me to do the same. I immediately recognized the guy & said hello. Told him I admired his play as a player & his work on television. He just gave me this look like. "Who the **** are you??" He just grabbed his drink & walked off without saying a word & barely acknowledging me. Needless to say that was a **** move. The second was Morris Lukowich. I was with my girlfriend at the time & we were sitting at our table. She told me she recognized some friends standing near the bar & said she was going to talk to them. I saId okay, I'll save her seat. She was gone for awhile & the place was packed. A guy leaned over & asked if he could sit down. I said sure but when my GF got back he'd have to move & he said fine. Turned out it was Morris Lukowich & we had a nice chat about the Jets. When she came back he let her have her seat back & he walked away. Two pro athletes. Two different reactions. We're only human. My only comment about Davidson is if you don't want to talk to anyone (especially people being polite) don't go out to a crowded bar on a Friday night.
  8. Watching Zach Collaros is fun. Rider fans losing their minds more fun Cry, whine, ***** ya losers.
  9. Players aren't perfect. They have character flaws like all of us. Some are nice. Some aren't. Some have big egos & some don't. Some are smart & some are stupid. Some like people. Some don't. Some are selfish & think only about themselves. Some will work with charities, sports organizations & give you the shirt off their back. Some are crooks. Some are saints. None of them asked to be role models although some recognize that it helps to be that way.
  10. So, this is more of a public interest story. There were 3 players playing today at IG Field that played pee wee, bantam & HS football against each other from 2001 to 2009. Jake Harty & Mike Edem with the Riders & Jesse Briggs with the Bombers. I coached Jesse in Pee Wee before his family moved to Kelowna. My son played against Harty & Edem at every level while Briggs was his teammate. They all went on to have really good careers playing community & HS ball in Calgary as well as U Sports. My son played for SFU & as a qb was never given the chance to come to a CFL camp although the BC Lions did give him a tryout & he threw for Wally Buono & Lions OC at the time, Khari Jones. The other 3 all made it to the CFL & they've all had long careers in the league. I'm not a fan of Mike Edem but he is a talented player. Still for me, it's great to see 3 local Calgarry players make it.
  11. I missed it as I pvr'd the Bomber game & then FF'd to the Stamps-Elks game. What did he say? The RedBlacks have little chance to win with Nichols. They have absolutely no chance with Dom Davis.
  12. Desjardins will be fired this off season. I could see a new GM come in & fire LaPo bringing in his own HC. There are some QBs coming available as free agents this off season. Jake Maier, Jeremiah Massoli. Maybe even Vernon Adams. Would the Stamps sign Maier & trade Mitchell? Who & what are you referring to?
  13. Ottawa is just so bad. They'll be lucky to have 10,000 at their next home game.
  14. He was referring to our OL. I don't want to even discuss this.
  15. How do shitty qbs like Dom Davis keep playing in the CFL? He's like a 7 year veteran. If he doesn't get it by now, he never will. He should be cut. Well, he ain't wrong about injuries (touch wood) & Davis has been in the CFL since before Trump got elected. How could he not read coverages??? That's coaching. And perhaps a lack of work ethic on Davis.
  16. Pressure getting to Davis. He's collapsing faster than an umbrella in a hurricane.
  17. I don't mind Jim Barker. He's not part of the TSN Yuk Yuk's Comedy Team.
  18. Thank you, Marcel. Thank you, Thank you. Thank you.
  19. Barker asking the same questions we used to ask....
  20. Who was Davis throwing to??? Davis has always been...
  21. Ottawa on offense looks like us in 2013 & 14.
  22. Harris never threw a punch.
  23. It's not rare in the CFL. Before specialists, regular players did the punting & kicking. Don Jonas was our FG kicker. Gene Lakusiak kicked for us ||& was a defensive back. Ed Ulmer was a safety & our punter. Imagine the pressure playing a regular position & being winded, dinged up or out of breath & asked to kick or punt? Seems to me, they would be under even more pressure. Bernie Ruoff's very first kick in 1975 (he was a specialist) against the Stamps was a 58 yard FG. He never let pressure get to him. The league has had many kickers who as rookies stepped in & played like veteran kickers. Sean Whyte in Edmonton. Lewis Ward in Ottawa. Rene Paredes in Calgary. Lui Passaglia in BC. Mike Vanderjagt in Toronto. Damon Duvall in Montreal. Even as rookies, they were able to control their emotions & stay even keeled when they kicked. That's the key. To remain calm. Dont be nervous & stay focused. The mental part of the game is maybe more important than the physical part. Hopefully. Liegghio will get a handle on things... fast.
  24. So, how long do we go before we make a change at kicker? Eventually those misses will cost us.
