  1. Truth be known, Billy Redden was a teenager at the time. He couldn't play the banjo. he certainly looks the part of a backwoods Georgian inbred child. Considering his background now he just might be. Although, it's always been denied. They found another teenager who was like a virtuoso banjo player. They strapped Redden to the banjo player with his arms behind his back. Then when it came to play the part, Redden just pretended to play using facial expressions to sell himself playing while the other kid strapped behind him actually did. I doubt that "Deliverance" would never be made today. Even in 1972, it was a cringe worthy motion picture. I've never been able to get through it in one shot. Very uncomfortable to watch.
  2. Two ways of looking at it. Taking Rourke is a waste of a draft pick as it would be years, if ever before he comes here. Two, we were given an extra pick so why not use it to pick someone like Rourke as the extra pick was awarded to us by the CFL? I think it's a waste to pick Rourke but if that is what Walters does then so be it.
  3. Air Miles, Canadian Tire money, coupons, anything. Thomas needs to write a book, & call it, I Can See For Miles & Miles & Miles & Miles.
  4. It wasn't him playing. I saw a documentary about the movie. The kid was just a random actor named Billy Redden who was from Rabun Counry, GA who tried out & won the part. He mimicked playing the banjo while another musician played the part. The producer of the motion picture was looking for an actor who looked the part of a backwoods inbred, even though Redden is not.
  5. Just wondering, Does it bother you that a kid who looks like he's the love child of one of his uncles & one of his aunts (brother & sister) can play the banjo better than you?
  6. I know. Osh has to stop with it.
  7. Meant that the winters in Edmonton & Winnipeg are virtually similar.
  8. They have sellout crowds now. No need to keep grinding for fans. Stay right here cuz these are the Good Old Days. Enjoy them while we still can.
  9. Signing a squadron of former Bombers won't change anything either. I just wish Jake Thomas left with them. He could be Radar O'Reilly.
  10. Jake has a great gig here. Go out on the field, start, do nothing, suck, get paid for it, take away playing time from other players & then next game, repeat.
  11. Winnipeg gets a bad rap as the weather in edmonton, especially the summers are ****. Winnipeg sunmmers are warmer & sunnier. Weather in the winter is the same.
  12. Fatty Liver... Your comments about farmers in AB loving soccer made me chuckle hence my smart ass answer. Alberta has nearly 5 million people. It's expected that Alberta will go over that number this year.
  13. If you love winters in Winnipeg then you'll love Edmonton.
  14. Nah, he has a lifetime contract.
  15. CWS isn't a dump. IT's old but then so are a lot of stadiums. The Mexico City stadium was built in 1960. They'd obviously have to do renos at CWS like they're doing on other stadiums. As in, BMO. Hundreds of millions of dollars worth of renos going into the NFL stadiums in the US.
  16. As usual, pushed so far back that there's no qb within 25 yards of him.
  17. Don't get me wrong, Bluto. As a city, I like Toronto but as a city to host the WC, there were better.
  18. The writing was just so bad. I tried to watch some of the newer Star Wars & just can't get through it. The characters, the plot, the dialogue in comparison to thr first 3 movies in the series from 1977-81 compared to today. The killing of Hans Solo, Luke & Leia floating thru space. With all the different writers, producers, directors, actors, new characters, etc, the entire movie series was lost.
  19. That's why there was a couple of WC qualifying matches against Mexico in Edmonton played in the December 2023 cold & snow & had 52000 fans in the stands. Those damned curious farmers who love soccer, there are nearly two million of them in Edmonton. And another two million farmers in Calgary. Oh & another 105,000 in Red Deer. And another 100,000 northern farmers in Fort MacMurray.
  20. My point is Toronto doesn't deserve to have a WC game. Edmonton would have been a better choice. It was completely a political choice.
  21. Putting SWAT in Friday's former Blue Bloods time slot was the kiss of death for that show. A lot of anger out there for Blue Bloods cancellation & fans took it out on the sacrificial lamb that replaced it. No, baseball reference.
  22. Star Wars has become a British sci fi franchise. Their ideas & styles of sci fi is different what is done here in the US & Canada when it comes to acting & writing. To me, they've strayed away from the vision George Lucas had for Star Wars. Twenty five yars ago, I could have debated this issue with other Star Wars fans here but today I barely know the names of the main characters anymore. I just know that I've watched every Star Wars movie & just can't get excited about it anymore. If a new motion picture comes out I'll probably not watch it.
  23. All things come to an end. He was a great player for us.
  24. Wouldn't surprise me if Randy sticks around for another year. I always felt Campbell isn't as good as his reputation claimed. Certainly nowhere close to his father. What he did in BC last year cutting VAJ at the knees was mind blowing. If the league really wanted to get sticky about this, they could force the Lions to give them both back. That would deter teams from offsetting like you described.
