  1. We had a federal candidate running in our riding in South Calgary in the provincial election in 2015 who was from Toronto but never told anyone. The federal NDP parachuted her in as they couldn't find anyone here to run. It was hush, hush until it wasn't. But we live in a safe Conservative riding so she never would have been elected.
  2. Don't mind? What??? Of course people mind. We shrug because we have to pay it. Whether it's corporate profit or government taxes. We have to pay it. And it's not a small tax on gas. It affects the price of everything as these carbon tax increases are factored into the cost of goods & services.
  3. She went to Vegas in the middle of the campaign thinking she would lose.
  4. When the NDP had their surprise win in 2015 here in Alberta, they ran candidates in every riding. These candidates were low quality. Like 20 year old university students who never had jobs, activists & others. Very few high profile candidates because the party thought they would lose. But surprise, they won. Some of the winning candidates didn't even campaign. The voters just said no more PC's & threw them out. Most of these NDP candidates became lousy MLA's & left politics & never ran again in 2019 when the UCP won. Some of them were horrified they won as all they did was put their name on a piece of paper as an NDP candidate thinking they'd lose. Or they were voted out. It was certainly a reactionary vote.
  5. When the tax starts to climb & becomes a burden on people then let's see what happens.
  6. Plus the Ravens won a SB in the early 2000's & have a SB contending team now. Two, maybe 3 generations of Baltimore fans don't consider the Colts to be their team anymore as they left in 1984. They belong to Indy. Just like the Coyotes aren't Winnipeg's team anymore.
  7. Sure be dependent on foreign countries for oil just like we are for vaccines. Great public policy for Canada. Let two bit politicians in the US affect millions in Eastern Canada or hostile foreign governments. Has it? How so?
  8. That was nearly THIRTY years ago. Most of those fans are dead or seniors who wouldn't buy tickets anymore.
  9. I would not be against a carbon tax if it remained the same or was adjusted occasionally. Put the revenues towards green technology research. I have no problem with that but to have it continually rise to where it hurts Canadians is just wrong. We live in a country with vast distances between cities & where winter temperatures are routinely minus 25 to minus 35 for weeks at a time. Yet we will be severely penalized. People on fixed or low incomes will be hurt the most. Yeah, I get the move away from the internal combustion engine to electric vehicles but to me, what Trudeau is doing is just wrong.
  10. Energy East would have made our country oil independent. If Line 5 is shut down in Michigan starting in May there will be oil shortages in Ontario & Quebec. The world will not be less dependent on oil for another half century. You just watch the erosion of our social programs in the years to come thanks to Trudeau.
  11. Oh man, you live in Alberta. The Carbon Tax, then a secondary carbon tax on top of that, the tanker moratorium & making it economically unfeasible for Energy East. They funded the Trans Mountain pipeline but that'll be the last project. O & G accounts for 15-20% of the Canadian economy so in a recession the revenues are needed across the country to help fund social programs. The only other way to raise that kind of revenue are through higher taxes. So, the only vote not wasted is a Liberal vote? Okay, sure.
  12. Colin, I have no idea where you get some of your ideas from, honestly. The CFL is dealing with a multi billion dollar entertainment company & multi millionaires running it. These guys don't go into deals with weakness. They are the money men. THEY call the shots not Randy Ambrosie. They'll make as good a deal as they can on both sides or walk away from it. Redbird, Garcia & Johnson have a plan that they'll follow. If not, they're gone.
  13. Blindly voting for Trudeau isn't any better, I'm afraid. The past 5 years have shown that. like I said, I have 2 choices. I'd probably vote NDP if Layton was still here. He had a lot of political smarts & seemed to touch a chord with people. But I can't support that sorry pretense of a leader the NDP have now.
  14. They acquire assets. Teams & organizations ready to go with people in place. As well as the 110 year history of the league. It help[s with credibility as well as stability. But like the NHL they care a lot more about new markets in American cities with a couple million or more people than say Winnipeg or Regina. Look how the NHL has dicked around Quebec City. In the time Quebec has tried to get back to the NHL, they dropped teams in Winnipeg, Las Vegas & Seattle while stringing QC along. The NHL have no plans to expand to that market even though they have a beautiful 18,000 seat arena in place & a superhot market literally crying for a team. Hartford will get a new team before QC does, I believe. Advertisers in the US would also look at viewership numbers generated down there not up here. Better ratings, more advertising & bigger future tv deals.
  15. Where do the XFL owners want to grow their league? In the US or Canada?? Americans fans don't care about our rules & field size. The markets they really want are in the US just like the NHL. Why tweak an NFL field & make it 5 yards wider when it would have to be changed back a few months later? Too much work & the NFL & college teams wouldn't allow it. That makes no sense. The stadiums in the US aren't built for Canadian football. You seem to think our league will come into this merger (if it happens) from a position of strength. We won't. That won't happen. When you get a bank loan do you tell the bank what the terms are? Not likely.
  16. here's what I think is happening. The CFL wants to stay relevant so they have to play. Liberals will give them no financial support. All their revenue streams have dried up. The owners of the XFL finance a season with no fans either by a loan or a promise that in return they join their league & go to NFL sized field & 4 downs with some CFL tweaks. No Canadian ratio only international players as a small part of the team. However, experienced CFL veterans would start & play on the Canadian teams but there would be no mandated Canadian starters. The new league opens training camps in the Southern US in late February, plays all of their games in March down south & once the weather allows for outdoor games up here in Canada from mid April they'd start playing home games in Canada. The schedule is April to September & wrapped up the championship at the latest by the end of that month. There's no other reason why the CFL would be talking to the XFL owners. They give our teams money. Here are the conditions you must meet.
  17. I could never support Trudeau. Not after the last 5 1/2 years. I have 2 alternatives. Vote Conservative or not vote at all.
  18. No thanks. The People's Party is home for racists & looney religious nuts, anti maskers, anti vaxxers as well as alt right conspiracy theorists. I'm Conservative but I'd never vote for those idiots.
  19. I think that ship has sailed.
  20. Sorry. I don't want the the Bombers to tap out. Maybe you want the league to die "gracefully" (whatever that means) but I don't. No one or thing ever dies gracefully. Unless you are an actor & do a death scene in a motion picture. The death of the Bombers will be sad. It will be messy. There will anger. There will be tears. There will be recrimination. There will be finger pointing looking for someone to blame. People will be upset. It won't be graceful. If you remember the Jets leaving town in 1996 just amplify that 10 or 20 times. Professional football in Winnipeg will be gone forever. I don't think people want that. I think Bomber fans will follow their team to wherever it goes.
  21. Wow, that was a shocker! He was a great boxer. He & Hearns had a couple of really good fights.
  22. I used to fear dying when I was younger. As I get older & closer to my fate, I realize it is inevitable. Death is a part of life. I no longer carry any fear. I do hope I stick around for a few years yet, though.
  23. Well, I'm loading up on my Ambrosie criticisms... Lol The problem are stadiums in the US. None of them fit a CFL field. Who wants a 110 yard field & 10 yard end zones?
  24. Ever try to stick a roll of toilet paper in a man's wallet? Another shining example of women not understanding men's issues.
  25. No, get your vax shot... Stay healthy.
