Als re-sign William Stanbeck & Vernon Adams to restructured deals. Good signings even without knowing the salary cap yet. You need a quality qb & a running back to win so these 2 signings may not have hurt that much. Wait'll the offensive linemen across the CFL get a load of how much less they'll be paid. My son used to privately coach qbs whenever he was back in Calgary for a visit. While he was going to college in the US & before he got married & moved to Seattle. There was a kid who was one of his players he trained back in 2012. I think he would have been in Grade 9 at the time. He went on to play qb in high school. They'd always hook up when my son came home. Probably last time was 2015. Then he graduated & went to college in Kelowna but never played post secondary football. Nice kid. Polite & respectful. Ha... Well fast forward to today. He's one of my facebook friends & has turned into this Alt Right Conservative Wingnut. He's into the Deep State, Q'Anon, the US election was rigged against Donald Trump. Trump is our Saviour & on & on & on. We had a few discussions & he is waaaay out there to the point of being a fascist lunatic. There's just no discussing it with him. He's always polite with me as he knew me as Tyler's dad (his QB coach) & he knew I was a football coach so he still showed me respect & didn't fly off when I disagreed. A couple of weeks ago it was Trump will still be the next President on January 20th to today (which ain't happening) & government mind control through the Covid & flu vaccine... Newton's former HC in Carolina Ron Rivera used to take it easy on Newton after a bad game & say very little so as not to upset Newton. Whereas Belichek has no compuction to criticize his players in front of his teammtes as Brady was chewed out plenty of times in team meetings over 20 seasons. Maybe Newton can't take the pressure by Bill Belichek in New England?

Newton lost me when he acted like an ass after his Super Bowl loss. It's one thing to be unhappy after a loss & we all understand that. But to act like he did? No class. Cam Newton is just an awful qb. Bill Belichek kept telling the media after the game last night that Newton is his qb. Yeah, until the final game of the season then he is gone. I can't see the guy back in New England next season. There are some qbs who struggle that fans want to succeed & there are others like Newton where they revel in his failures.

The only position where I will agree with you that the players of today are better than the past are on the offensive line. Guards & Centers were anywhere from 215 lbs in the early 50's to 245 lbs in the 70's. Tackles went from 225 ;bs in that era to 265 lbs in the 70's. Today's OL are all 285 - 300 lbs & are more athletic & can move. The greats of yesterday like Frank Rigney would have a hard time playing today, if at all. On the defensive line players are somewhat bigger where the interior players are 270 lbs or bigger but the DE's are still 245-250 lbs & are very quick. (See Willie Jefferson & Charleston Hughes). However, guys like John Helton, Junior Ah You David Boone or Dave Fennell could still play if they were in the prime.

None of those guys could help the Niners. They might as well stay with Garrapolo. Prescott is never leaving Dallas. Jerry Jones loves him as a player.

BLM said a few weeks ago that he is willing to take a pay cut to make it work with the Stamps financially. Mike Reilly meanwhile is suiing the Lions saying his salary is guaranteed. One player gets it. The other in his late 30's lives in a fantasy world in Seattle. A career backup who racked up a lot of yards in garbage time when his Argos team had actually lost. If you want to talk about the greats not being able to play today well your argument defeats itself. If Johnny Unitas was born in 2002 he'd have been trained using today's training techniques, nutrition & technology. Chances are he'd be better as a player now than he was in the 50's. The same with Starr, Namath, Baugh, Ploen, Lancaster, Parker, Kapp, Jackson or Staubach. If they were college players, they'd be better today than when they played & now being prepped for pro football.
