No need to apologize as that was a freaking long time ago. One of the biggest complaints about the CFL is the fact the league has little if any video or information on former players or big games of the past. Trying to figure these things out correctly is sometimes impossible as there is nothing anywhere. I can say that Brule was a corner. The other corner was Doug Strong & Ed Ulmer was the safety. In 1971, Grady Cavness replaced Ulmer at safety.

Well, I'd still say pull Heath especially when you compare him to the guy I'm about to discuss. After this, I hope you'll understand why I feel that so strongly that Heath shouldn't be on this list. I'm talking about cornerback Paul Brule. He was the Bombers first round pick out of St F-X in 1968. He could play offense & defense & is considered the greatest player to ever come out of that small Atlantic Conference university. In 1967, he became the first U Sport player (then called the CIAU) to score 20 touchdowns in a single season as a fullback. The Bombers installed the rookie at corner & he really struggled during the 1968 & 69 seasons. His first 2 seasons were tough as he was picked on, exploited & beaten like a rented mule (can we still say that here? ). I remember Brule looking at the back of opposition jerseys as he chased them down the field as they scored yet another clean, over the top TD on him. He was booed & criticized fiercely by both fans & media in this town but he hung in there through the criticism. he lost his starting job at corner in 1969 but he played special teams. Former HC Joe Zaleski never lost faith in the guy when other coaches would have. He probably would have been cut by another coach. Then in 1970 under rookie HC Jim Spavital, it was like the proverbial light bulb went off in his head. He came back to camp & in the pre season won his starting job back. Brule became a great cover guy & picked off 9 interceptions followed up by 4 more in 1971. He became a CFL all star at corner that season & was instrumental in the Bombers going from 2-14 in 1970 to 7-8-1 in 1971 along with a playoff berth that year for the first time in 5 seasons. He was traded to the Alouettes during the 1972 season. I believe he suffered a significant injury & then was dealt to Montreal when he came back He was also a fierce sure handed punt returner back in the days when these poor (always Canadian) souls had no blocking on punts. As a Bomber he returned 233 punts for 1,987 yards for no touchdowns & a stellar 7.3 yard average. He also returned 17 KO/s for 406 yards, no touchdowns & a 23.9 yard average. Players had to be absolutely courageous to return punts back then & Brule was all that, for sure. Still want to keep Heath on that list?

One season should disqualify him. There's not enough body of work as a Bomber to put Heath on an all time list. The trouble with putting him on that list means you're taking away another more deserving former Bomber player who should be on that list. The other thing is taking into consideration Heath's all star stats with the Argos which have nothing to do with his time with the Blue Bombers. Not trying to be disagreeable but just pointing out some inconsistencies.

The MBB All-time Blue Bomber Team: cornerbacks
SpeedFlex27 replied to TrueBlue4ever's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
I know Rod Hill & Less Browne will win this so I changed it up a bit. I voted for Hill because no one was better as a corner in Blue Bomber history & David Shaw because Shaw was a helluva player who most fans here have either never heard of or had forgotten. He was a shutdown corner for the Bombers from 1983 thru 85. It was his interception in the second quarter of a Dieter Brock Ti Cat pass that cued the 48 point explosion after the Bombers were down 14-0 in the 84 Grey Cup game. Just a tremendous player. -

Williams was a versatile athlete. He could play wingback ( now called slot) or corner & returned KO's. He also celebrated in the end zone a very unique dance after he scored a TD with what he called, "The Winnipeg Wiggle". When he played in Winnipeg he subbed on both sides of the ball. When he was traded to the Riders they moved him full time to corner where he became an all star. I wish there was a video of his dance as it was awesome! -

I thought you meant that he did more than punting as in played other positions. -
I remember Roger Kent doing the pbp for the AWA & he used to always say about Hennig that he was "big enough to go bear hunting with a switch".
-
Well, actually... yes.

The poor guy has worked his hoofies to the quick. -
Well, this should be interesting.

You think he was the only wrestler who treated people badly? Lots of famous wrestlers were bad people. There were bullies, murderers, drug addicts, thugs, criminals & wife beaters. You just don't know about it. Most people seem to be focusing on Dynamite Kid the wrestler.

He was a great punter & that was his job as well as holding for converts & placekicking. His punting made him stand out. Not throwing the ball. He never actually suited up & played qb but he'd throw the odd pass out of punt formation or from a botched snap on a field goal. I think he was our best punter ever but I don't know what you mean as integral. As in other ways -
Vince McMahon considers move to bring back the XFL
SpeedFlex27 replied to wbbfan's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
I looked at the cities. None of them stand out as being successful. Seattle loves the Seahawks. Their XFL team? They may get 35-40,000 out for their first game with falling attendance afterwards. I think it'll be a replay of the XFL in 2000. -
Rest in Peace Dynamite Kid... Tom Billington. Maybe he wasn't the nicest guy in & out of the ring but he was a helluva wrestler. He should be remembered for that. He had his share of suffering later in life including being confined to a wheelchair & in constant pain.

You know, I was thinking. Every team including the Bombers have so many free agents to deal with. This whole thread may become totally irrelevant if we can't sign our core veterans. Specific needs may become huge holes to fill. Pretty nervous time to be a Bomber fan.

Quite the sacrifice considering he was making something like half a million a year as Chief Cook & Bottle Washer with the Riders. -

Well, more like 6th string. He was never seriously considered a qb in the CFL. -

The salary cap for CFL team admins. He was making a huge salary so he had to go. I wonder if Jones takes a pay cut? I'm asking that tongue in cheek. -
I wonder what he's limited to physically? Age does matter in your 80's. His voice has also changed. I don't think he'll reprise Locutus Of Borg.
