Around the League: 2019 Off Season
The only league other than the old AFL that could have given the NFL a run for its money would have been the USFL. Some cities were drawing fairly well. But then Donald Trump decided he wanted the USFL to become a fall league & compete directly with the NFL which probably would have been suicide anyway. When the USFL was awarded $1 in damages by a federal judge in the USFL's anti trust trial the league folded & Trumps hate was on for the NFL. I'm sure some owners like Trump wanted a merger of some kind but didn't get it.

I remember the WLAF as it was called then. All teams were in the States. The attendance was... guess what?? Abysmal. (Some things never change). Moving to Europe extended the life of that league.

It wasn't a bad idea but running a developmental league is expensive. It was much better run than the AAF.

Bob Pickering Saskatchewan skip 1969 McDonald Brier who was famous for the big windup. When I was a junior player, I tried that once & almost killed myself coming out of the hack.- The Star Trek Thread!

hard to believe a Vulcan would get upset over comments like that meant to insult. I thought the comment "half breed" was so 1960's as it's a term that was common back then but uncommon now. A throwback to TOS.- Curling
Hate the format of the Brier now. Two pools & a WC team. That's what I hate. Especially the WC team. No interest in watching anymore. I know you like the WC team but I feel if you can't get out of your province for the Brier then go back & keep curling in the pro tour. It's a very confusing format.- Alliance of American Football
Story today that the NFLmay loan the AAF some qbs. I wonder what player safety & the NFLPA think of that? I doubt if they'd let this go through. The league is absolutely incapable of standing on its own.- Around the League: 2019 Off Season
Wait. Let's meat up & talk about this. You look extra scrumptious today.- Alliance of American Football
It'll finish the season & then probably evaluate for next year. They are facing competition with the XFL.- The MBB All-time Blue Bomber Team: Centre
Bob Swift was Canadian. A broken leg in the 64 Grey Cup probably was a blessing in disguise as once he converted at first to guard & then found a home at center he became a mainstay on the Argos & then Blue Bombers OL. Swift mentored Bonk as he was his backup at center before he retired after the 77 season. Bonk just stepped in & the change was seamless. Bonk started his career in Hamilton in 1972 & was traded for Defensive Halfback Peter Ribbins prior to the start of the 1973 season. Bonk played linebacker for the Cats & Bombers before switching to Center with the Bombers replacing Swift. Bonk is my first choice but Swift was a helluva Center & would be my #2 choice. All I can say is Don Jonas, Dieter Brock & Tom Clements never had to worry about the man snapping the ball to them.- The Star Trek Thread!
The telepathic aliens & Veena from the Menagerie, wow. That was a major surprise. I need some kind of explanation regarding Captain Pike who was horribly disfigured & in a wheelchair. He was supposed to be living on Talos 4 where he was under the illusion (from the aliens) that he & Veena were happy & healthy. Yet, we see Pike functioning & healthy as Captain of the Discovery. I thought Pike's injuries were still in the future & not already happened. So, is his good health an illusion?- Around the League: 2019 Off Season
Restricted free agency vs guaranteed contracts. Put that on the table & see how far it gets.- Canadian Politics
And Wernick testified twice yet Raybould isn't allowed to come back to answer what Gerald Butts said. Butts could talk about the cabinet shuffle but Raybould can't. There's no "justice" in the Justice Committee. It's just a scam.- Wrestling
I had no idea he was even with WWE still. He & Vince have had a hot & cold relationship over the years. I miss Jerry Lawler beside Michael Cole on Raw.- Around the League: 2019 Off Season
In 2013, The Riders as well as the City of Regina were accused of making the Grey Cup a local event & thumbing their nose at Grey Cup traditions & out of town fans. Seeing the prices for a ticket, I'm inclined to think the Stampeders are doing the same thing for this year's game. They're banking on STH being the majority of ticket buyers with their discounts while over pricing out of town fans who must play full price to make them stay away. The organizing committee is banking on (praying?) that the Stamps make it to the Grey Cup. If they do, the game will sell out. If they don't, it won't be sold out as Stamps fans dump their tickets. This is just my theory.- Around the League: 2019 Off Season
LOL. Campbell is living in a fantasy world. Their quarterbacking is going to be horrendous if Jennings doesn't pick up his game & rise to the occasion to play like a legit CFL starter. I don't think he can. - Curling
