  1. Fullback Lorne "Boom Boom" played for the Bombers from 1951-55. He won the Western Interprovincial Football Unions Rookie Of The Year Award after he rushed for 491 yards in 1952 (he played only 1 game for the Bombers in 1951), The Winnipeg native's best season was in 1953 when he rushed for 561 yards. He finished his 5 season playing career with 1,671 yards rushing. An all around great athlete, he also starred as a junior hockey player & had a tryout in the National League with the Washington Senators. He was an avid curler & played in the 1962 Manitoba Consols as a lead with Lyle Henry's Strathcona CC rink. He later skipped his own curling team to an 8 ender in the Men's League at the same curling club.
  2. Bud Grant talks to receiver Norm Rauhaus during the 1962 Grey Cup. Rauhaus passed away on November 26, 2018 in Winnipeg. He was 83.
  3. Herosian was a beast. He deserves to be nominated so I will do so right here. Please add his name to the safety position. But you're right that tragic accident cost him his career. How does anyone come back after what he went through?
  4. Bo's gone as he'll sign somewhere. Singleton, too. Stamps will be in a whole mess of trouble.
  5. This is the first I heard this. I don't think Wally & Hervey would work together especially since Wally is retired & Ed's in charge. With Wally there this past season, we all knew that he was in charge. Pretty funny, though.
  6. Not good. Hope the guy will be okay.
  7. Battle didn't play OLB as he was ILB. Jones played OLB. He never was a DE or rush end.
  8. BC sucks! BC sucks! BC sucks! BC sucks! BC sucks!
  9. Even though for all intents & purposes, the fullback hasn't been an integral part of a CFL offense for at least 10 years. Maybe more. Today, the fullback is primarily a Canadian blocker. He may carry the ball a couple of times a season or catch the odd swing pass out of the backfield. The position has almost become irrelevant. Except in short yardage or goal line. I think fullbacks should be together in the same pot as the tailbacks. If Charlie Sheppard, Charlie Perkins, Bob Houmard, John Bledsoe, Mark Bragagnolo, Sean Kehoe & Mike Sellars are worthy then one will get voted on to the all time team. Again, just a suggestion. FWIW.
  10. Agree. As good as Harris is, there were better running backs.
  11. Because of the number of historically great backs, I'd be happy if you had two running back positions & one less slot. I'll nominate Leo Lewis, Dave Raimey & Willard Reaves.
  12. It's a typical promo piece. Hey, I understand. They don't want to give anything away so I'm okay with it.
  13. Total teaser, No useful info at all. LOL.
  14. Gene Lakusiak was a very good defensive back. He played with the Bombers from 1968-74. He had 7 interceptions during his career & was a CFL Western Conference All Star in 1972 & 73. I'd like to nominate him.
  15. My advice would be to add Rowland as a defensive back. We've had some great linebackers & there'll be plenty of nominations at that position.
  16. Thirty four picks should be a DB. Linebackers don't put up those numbers.
  17. Yeah, these guys have full time jobs & coach. Blasetti quit his job to coach with the Lions. Then suddenly found himself without a job a year later. I also know a former OC in the CFL who now lives in the US. He coached a number of years on 3 different CFL teams but was fired. He's in his late 50's & would be a great addition to a lot of CFL staffs. He told me that he's no longer interested in the CFL as he says it's too volatile. Working as a college coach in the NCAA.
  18. There is a junior football coach here in Calgary who is the OC of the Calgary Colts. Adam Blassetti has a wealth of experience coaching at the highest levels in Canada. He coached at SFU when my son was there doing the OL. Tyler said he did a great job but was let go when HC Jacques Chapdelaine suddenly quit the team after just one season. Before he went to SFU, he also was a guest OL coach with the Als during training camp for 2 successive years. He also coached 1 year with the Lions full time as Running Backs Coach. He was so happy Wally hired him as a member of his Lions staff & thought he'd be there for awhile. Then just a year later during training camp, Wally suddenly fired him with no warning & he was replaced with no real explanation as to why. Now, Adam's back with the Colts where he started a number of years ago. He never had a chance to develop as a CFL assistant coach plus he was coaching out of his natural position. So it really is a baptism by fire to be a Canadian coach in the CFL. There is absolutely no job security like there may be in U Sports. How many qualified Canadian coaches are willing to coach in the CFL for low pay, long hours, no benefits & no job security?
  19. There are a few good Canadian coaches that should be in the CFL. I think it's difficult to find qualified guys as they are probably coaching in U Sports where things may be a bit more secure. Usually Canadian coaches start in the CFL as Running Back Coach & move up from there. Some of them only last a couple of seasons & are released for whatever reason. With the new salary cap expect to see even less.
