Just finished watching Summerslam from 1989. Sadly, half the wrestlers are now dead. Rick Rude wrestled The Ultimate Warrior. Warrior won when there was outside interference from Roddy Piper. Sensational Sherry was hilarious as was Brutus The Barber Beefcake. Miss Elizabeth was part of the match as well standing at ringside for Hogan & Beefcake. Beefcake used garden shears to cut an "unconscious" Sherry's long ponytail after they had won the match. Jessie Ventura was saying things that today he'd be heavily criticized for. He called Jimmy Superfly Snuka who is Samoan, "an animal" who was an "instinctive wrestler" while his white opponent The Million Dollar Man was an "intelligent wrestler". The **** would fly today if a WWE announcer said that with its racist undertone. Back in 1989, no one batted an eye or cared.

If Harry Knight hadn't torn his rotator cuff in 1978, we might be talking about him being a former great Bomber qb instead of Dieter Brock. He struggled at times with his reads & decisions under Bud Riley for 2.5 seasons starting in 1975. Riley had Brock rolling out & sprinting left & right virtually cutting the field in half to make things easier for Dieter. Harry Knight on the other hand seemed to have a better grasp of the offense than Brock did & was more comfortable throwing from the pocket. During the 1977 season, some of the local media & fans began calling Brock a "dumb quarterback" when he struggled & they compared him to Knight. Harry was beginning to have more & more playing time & having success during the 77 season although Brock remained the starter. Going into training camp in 1978, there wasn't a true number one qb for the Bombers as new HC Ray Jauch wanted to make the qb position a competitive situation. At one point it looked like Knight would replace Brock as starting qb until he suffered that rotator cuff injury & was forced to retire. Jauch worked with Brock helping him to become a deadly pocket passer with his rocket arm. It was Ray jauch who spent hours with Brock & really advanced his knowledge of reading & exploiting defenses. Jauch virtually saved Dieter's career & made him not only a Blue Bomber HOF qb but a CFL HOF qb as well. Amazing how one injury would affect two players so much.

Russia flexing its muscles in the Arctic. They don't recognize our claims of a 200 mile territorial limit. Lots of oil, natural gas & other resources at stake as well as our sovereignty as a nation. We should be establishing Arctic bases & investing in icebreakers & nuclear subs. Nothing like a few air & army bases in the high Arctic to show we're serious to the Russians. Somehow, as this is Trudeau... I think this new military spending will be deferred & delayed & as the years go on. Trudeau is all about feeling good. Ploughshares vs guns.

I loved Beaird. What a tough, tough, TOUGH running back!! Always hit the hole hard. Wasn't tackled for losses very often. He was a great inside runner while Washington could run wide with the pitch, toss & sweep.

The chatting took away from the game. If the broadcasters on TSN don't seem to care about the game & it's outcome then it's hard for the viewers to get excited about it either.

The broadcast is just bland. Some big plays & a close game. Maybe as it's pre season??

I remember the 1976 & 77 seasons. We had Jay Washington & Steve Beaird as the two starting running backs. Beaird from Baylor could hold his own with Washington & Brock had 2 great backs to hand off to. Both were threats when they had the football. Our running game sure opened up the passing game. We'd never see that today.

Well funny (but not so funny) that loss still stings 45 years later. I was at that game. Any Bomber fan who witnessed that 2nd half collapse at Winnipeg Stadium will never forget it.

Training camp 1972. St.John's Ravenscourt Boys School. Beautiful campus by the river in Fort Garry. Huge Elm trees so lots of shade to watch the Bombers at training camp. Camp started June 15th. Biked from my house about 5 miles from my place in Riverview almost everyday. Except when I had to write my grade 9 finals. I remember the huge banner HC Jim Spavital put up that said "Toronto 72" on it. Spavital loved his hitting & 2 a days were brutal. In full pads the entire time. In those days training camp was longer. The exhibition season was 4 games. So, the players were hitting from the first TC practice right thru until the first exhibition game which wasn't for 2-3 weeks. Spavital loved to yell. He was on a metal tower where he could watch the entire practice. Training camps then were nothing like today. It was hit! Hit! Hit!! I saw or met qbs Don Jonas & Ron Johnson. Mack Herron was coming off his rookie all star season. The Bombers were a powerhouse offensively. They had a dominant rusher in Herron, a Schenley Award winning qb in Jonas, a tough offensive line anchored by Bill Frank & Bob Lueck, as well as a bunch of receivers in Bob LaRose, Jim Thorpe, Paul Markle & Bobby Kraemer who could catch. Defensively guys like Joe Critchlow, Jim Sullivan Rob McLaren & Mickey Doyle were studs with our secondary of Paul Brule, Tom Oberg, Grady Cavness, Peter Ribbins & Gene Lakusiak perhaps the strength of that team. the Bombers were loaded & the class of the CFL in 1972. Should have won the Grey Cup that year.

I have some training camp memories but they go back so far they're archived in the Manitoba Museum. Jim Spavital, Don Jonas, Mack Herron, Jim Thorpe & Benji Dial. If anyone wants to hear about training camp that far back I'd be glad to tell it.

I'm telling you guys Nate's an absolute coward. If you go over there & call him out he turtles & disappears. Then the other lemmings over there defend him. Just for fun we should mount a counter attack. -

Pretty simple solution is to let it go. Robertson is dead. It happened 38 years ago. -
