The sad thing is that when this "new & improved" league does fold there'll be another right behind it ready to go. Thinking their way will be the right way & it will be a success. -

Past history for $200, Alex. -
It's been ugly for years & years.

My wife says that Covid is going thru her office right now. A number of her coworkers have tested positive so are away. My friend also told me that at his son's engagement party last Sunday, two people had Covid, knew it & still showed up. His son's future Mother In Law & her son. He said he's taking the week off in case he has it. My wife is also okay, so far. As my wife said to me yesterday, "People are idiots". We won't be having lockdowns or restrictions anymore. Masking, maybe or maybe not, It's become like th flu or cold. People will give it to one another. It'll make the rounds.

And if the league is losing money it means ratings tank & lost advertising as well as networks who were televising them to say buh bye. I don't think any of the principles here want to sink their money into a bottomless pit. -
Now the stupid disbelievers aren't getting the required shots for diseases like Diptheria, Polio, Mumps & Measles for their kids. Claim they're unsafe. I guess putting on leafy underwear & dancing barefoot around a fire moaning incoherently works now. What a bunch of moronic fools for parents.

I've had 5 but didn't get the 6th in the spring/summer. Gonna get the jab in early November. Going to the US for American Thanksgiving & have to pass through a very overcrowded Seattle airport. It's crazy how small the place is with tens of thousands of people using it as it's the hub for Alaska Airways. Will try to get as much protection as I can.

Thjey obviously feel that merging will increase revenues. Good luck with that. The XFL was losing millions. However, the XFL goes nearly 2 months earlier. That will have to change. It also means that the USFL franchises will now have to be sold individually & organizations set up in each city to sell tickets & market the teams. The USFL was run on the cheap with hub cities not having to spend millions on operations. That'll have to change. There'll be some sticker shock for sure. How do they sell off each franchise privately now is the question? That was always the USFL plan. To only sell off franchises if there was a buyer. Otherwise they'd say as a hub league. I prefer the USFL. I think they have better players & starting later will let them into US cities that have an actual winter as they start 6-8 weeks later. That may have been the stumbling block to an XFL-CFL merger. The start date. It would have been insane to play football in outdoor stadiums in Canada in February & March. The XFL may have been intransigent in moving back their start date to April. -
CFL - 2023 Regular Season - Discussion Thread

I'm concerned that New Era is planning on ditching our regular season home & away jerseys we have now next season since they made the helmet striping change permanent this season. Hoefully, nothing's up. Fans clamoured for years to bring back the old look & colours which they finally did. Message to Wade Miller: Please don't mess with what works. Make it better, if you want. Don't change it. -

That hockey themed jesey with the W we wore at the Banjo Bowl & now other home games as well is not one of my favourites. I like our blue home jerseys a lot. Worst all time. I just remember Jason Vega & Drew Willy looking so unimpressed with them at the unveiling. The team only wore them once & never again. I heard the players refused to wear them again after that single time. No one bought that jersey. -

This isn't just on MOS. It's also on Walters & to a lesser extent Wade Miller. Teams don't hire mentors. The GMs have to work with the HC's unless they have both jobs then that presents a whole myriad of problems unto itself. no one is there for advice when it's needed. Look at the issues Dave Dickenson is having in Calgary this season. He doesn't have the steady hand of John Hufnagel around to guide him anymore. He's it. What he says goes. That is what this stupid Admin cap does. Good people are let go who shouldn't be. Or titles are merged or experienced older coaches & managers leave. -

The Coaches & salary cap is not part of the Players cap. They're separate. -

My half serious comment was directed at Pepper Brook's comment which was removed. It was not directed at anythuing GCn20 said which is why these merged comments suck. Sorry GCn20 nothing you said, I disagreed with. -

Of course, the Bombers are dealing with the salary cap. Every team is. Why do you think 5 teams were over the cap last season? The cap needs to be higher. It's going up by 100,000 next season. Every year players want raises. Inflation eats up just about all of that. So, rosters are constantly in flux with players moving everywhere. It's not just about Lawler. Chris Jones signed him for over $300,000 in 2022. He did the same with Eugene Lewis this past off season so that's what the market now pays. . What about teams overpaying Canadian OL beginning with what Ottawa is paying Desjarlais? Thanks to contracts to Zach Collaros & now Chad Kelly, elite CFL qbs will now make anywhere from $550-650,000. Dalton Schoen will want similar money to Lawler & Lewis. He'd be right in asking. But do you actually think the league will do anything about rapidly rising salaries & a salary cap that is now too small?? Like raising the salary cap by a million dollars? Or allowing teams to sign one player like an elite qb to a separate contract outside of the salary cap so that a significant amount of salary isn't eating up the cap? Thus making it harder to sign other stars & keep them from moving to another team? The league wil do nothing. The salary cap numbers are embedded into the Collective Agreement. To do so, would mean having to open up negotiations with the Players Association again which the BOG's don't want to do. Ambrosie is going around telling everyone that the league finally has long term stability with the Players. Opening up the Agreement would affect that stability. Not happening. The Coaches & Management Cap is a real negative. Another dumb idea brought in & foisted on teams by Randy Ambrosie & the BOG's. trying to cheap out in this area negatively affects teams in so many ways. But it looks like the Cap isn't going away, unfortunately. So, being tired is just part of the job. Coaches & administraors will just have to get used to it. -

My son was at a Boise State qb camp while in Grade 11 back in 2006. During scrinnage, he pivoted to hand the ball off to his running back. It was incredibly hot that day at nearly 40 Celsius & the sun beating down. I guess his hands were sweaty. Anyway, he lost control of the ball & fumbled it. One of the Boise State defensive coaches started yelling, "Nealon!" Nealon!" "Nealon!!" Pretty funny... -
They seem to be making even fewer changes this year than before. Walters who has become absolutely invisible & O'Shea seem satisfied with the status quo.

Our OL in 2018, 19 & 21 were in their prime. We still had Couture & Desjarlais & that OL imposed their will on opposing DL's. They were physical, mean & nasty. We still would be if we had Desjarlais & Couture. Those 2 are gone which is a real shame & that unit is older & on the downside now. That great OL was a huge advantage for us back then. All successful OC's build a playbook to match the personnel they have. A dink & dunk horizontal passing attack, extension of the run game, spread the ball all over the field, need 7 yards but throw for 4, twenty seven play drives just doesn't work with the qb we have now. It barely worked with the team we had then with a physically damaged Matt Nichols.

Obviously a shot at Charmin.

The Bombers were outcoached. Scott Milanovich is a helluva offensive coordinator. He has really helped Taylor Powell. Tommy Condell had gone stale. With his pedigree, I expect Milanovich will be a HC again in the CFL sooner rather than later.

While attendance does seem to be making a comeback in most cities in the CFL a little bit, the pandemic really hurt the Riders. They were seling out until the season got cancelled in 2020. It's never really come back.
