-it's both, the chicken and the egg... Nichols isn't all that good and Lapo doesn't trust him with more than he is currently giving him... so Lapo thinks he's doing everyone a favor by giving Nichols what he thinks he can execute but it just makes everything more predictable and easy to stop... it's amazing that Lapo doesn't see it... I think Lapo is trying to keep Nichols from spiraling completely into the abysss… he doesn't do Streveler any favors either, or the team for that matter, by giving him what he does... it has become equally as predictable.... which you could make the case that this is the reason for some of the O line trouble as it doesn't take much pressure to get Nichols to bail...

The whole Walters thing is interesting to me... To me it seems like Walters approaches this whole team building thing like a business. He has a plan going into the off season and he sticks to it and makes his decision with absolutely no emotion. Which for me is a good thing, he has no problem drawing that line in the sand and then sticking to it... that's not to say that he isn't willing to pay up for a guy he wants but he approaches it overall in a dollars and cents manner. I think he's done a great job in assembling a very good team while having to make tough choices because of SMS. That being said, I don't see him following in the footsteps of Calgary or BC and spending that kind of coin for a QB. Nichols is signed thru next season so he is kind of driving his own destiny. If he can get it back on track and get the team to a solid winning record overall, I think he's save regardless of playoff performance. You know O'Shea will be in his corner because a winning season likely continues to keep him employed in Winnipeg. We're not that far removed from those lean years so team success will continue to be job 1 as it keeps the wolves at a safe distance. Plus, there isn't anyone else out there to sign, at least not at the moment. O'Shea and Lapo have done nothing to prepare Streveler to take over so he is likely gone after this season because I think someone will be willing to give him a shot at being #1 and Walters is going to want to spend the kind of money it will take to keep him and have him as a back up. like you said, it should be interesting... But we will know early enough, Nichols is due a large bonus payment Jan. 15th....

No problem, lol... You know, as much as I use to despise Nichols I have to admit that during games 3, 4, and 5 he showed me that me can be quite a capable QB when given a better game plan to execute. He'll never be an elite QB but he can be good enough to get job done. i truly believe that Lapo doesn't trust him. After the INT in against the Ti-Cats Lapo really dumbed down the offense, back to what we became accustom to in 2018, way too predictable and playing under the chains in that dink and dunk passing scheme. If you notice, in both of our losses Harris was the number 1 targeted receiver, again, much like last year. in those three games, 3, 4, and 5, he did show that his weaknesses could be lessened with a more dynamic game plan, one that gets everyone involved with layered pass routes which created space for the receivers to work and larger throwing windows for Nichols. I have no clue how Lapo or O'Shea can't see this and give him more of the same. we had a balance offensive attacked that kept the defense off balance and having to actually work to stop us. That us, until we had a decent lead and Lapo went to his prevent offense, lol. I'm rooting for Nichols though, there's too much talent on this team to let it all go to hell in a hand basket....

I guess that should be some what expected after winning your first 5 games of the season and then lose the next 2 to a team with a back up QB with little or no real game experience and for the most part he was less than good and the other to a winless team, one that had many asking if they'd win one at all in 2019...

But in the same manner that Nichols is only running the plays given to him, it's the same for Streveler... I'm sure that if given the opportunity to respond in a manner that wouldn't effect his career, he'd tell you that he'd rather have more balance in play calling for himself... After all, by not doing so it makes his running less effective because it's expected and anticipated by the defense... Much in the same way Nichols is when only given the dink and dunk crap to execute.. in games 3, 4, and 5 you saw a lot more dynamic play calling... Go to game 6 and Nichols throws the int and all of a sudden Lapo loses trust in Nichols and plays it safe with the play calling... Act 2 was on display last game... It's obvious that Lapo lacks trust in Nichols and his abilities...

But, if it were true, in the most important game of the year, the Western Finals, you think your best shot of winning is going with an injured QB? If so, you do it because of experience, but you stay with him the entire game when you have a cable back up on the sidelines and are playing for a chance in the Grey cup?

I'm not buying the whole 'Nichols was injured at the end of the year' thing... If he were, Nichols would have been more than happy to offer that up to the media and fans as an excuse. That's exactly what he did at the end of the 2017 season... no one from the team ever eluded to this possibility, no media member ever brought it up as a possibility, or questioned Nichols about if he was injured or had any lingering effects due to prior injuries that may be effecting his game play... the only people that ever hinted at a injury for Nichols at the end of 2018 were fans....

Can't help but notice the absence of some members in this thread over the last 2 and a half weeks... The cat got your tongue USABomberfan? I've been awaiting your insulting and demeaning commentary on how everyone is wrong... And Rod Black, no snide, witty comments to support your buddy? Lol, imagine that... at least SpeedFlex27 is big enough to come back and take the heat... One can at least respect that....

I never said that there isn't a plan to get Streveler into games now... but what I question is, will they give him similar play time as in the past, come in on a 2 and short and then let him play the following down or two, or... will they get him there and let him play a couple of series? I don't think the amount of time that he got last year will tell us anything more than we know now... to be allowed to get a series or two we're going to have to be up or down really big, probably... to be seen, I guess...

and the upside with him is, even if he doesn't work out at QB, with his 4.5 speed and size you could still put him in at slot or running back, lol... while at Minnesota he was getting snaps at QB and asked to play WR, which they did... but seriously, I think O'Shea owes it to the team to vet both properly and keep the best person to move forward with... however, last year when asked if we see more of Streveler in games, O'Shea replied with something along the line of he's already played more than most back ups do this year already... telling? maybe, maybe not... to be seen...

not at all, in fact, that's my biggest fear... the truth of the matter is I don't believe there is any way to be able to keep both, not with the questions about what the new going rate for a QB is... I'm of the opinion that O'Shea needs to give Streveler enough snaps this year in live game action to ensure we as a team make the right decision on who to keep. I have no doubt that given the QB shortage in the CFL and the small sampling Streveler has shown, there will be teams interested in signing him. If we're going to do it, now would be time instead of letting him go and then be forced to keep a less mobile, aging Nichols for 3+ years more... I think O'Shea drags his feet on Streveler and then wants to sign Nichols because that would equal job security for him. Nichols would be a safe bet to win enough games a year to not get him fired. If Streveler struggles the first year he may feel like they make a change... but that's how I see it...

and here in lies the rub... they've set the bar for what a should be making, at least by them getting paid that much is has set the precedence... but they are overpaid, but you have to believe that every starting QB will start with that number to back into what they think they're worth... so basically you'll QBs that should be making $300,000 to $400,000 asking and probably getting $500,000 to $600,000...

if you're speaking to me, I have zero problem with anyone disagreeing or questioning my opinion, thoughts, or logic... further more, I enjoy discussing these difference with those that want to do as I've found over the years that I've learned way more from those I disagree with than those that agree, in most cases... but if people rather call names and make personal attacks, well, I guess we can go that route as well... you'll get what you give with me...
