you felt so strongly about 'delete' that you posted it twice to make sure we all saw it? lol... just fun-ing you a bit... here's my deal with Nichols... yes, a lot of what's holding him back is Lapo and the schemes that he wants to use, but, Nichols owns part of it and may be part of the reason why Lapo does what he does as well... say what you want but the numbers, other than yards, do mean a lot to Matt Nichols... he looks to his efficiency numbers, completion %, TD to INT ratio as justification of his skill... he's not completely wrong in this aspect but it's part of the reason why his ceiling is 'good' to 'very good' but will never be mentioned in the same sentence as the 'great' or 'elite'... Nichols plays it too safe, except for the occasional slant or deep ball he wants to see the numbers on his receiver's jersey to pull the trigger... the part of his game that is missing is you don't see him 'throwing his receiver open' or the back shoulder type of pass. if he doesn't have a receiver sitting in a pocket or hole he checks down, which is evident by the throwing chart I posted... also, he doesn't play situational football, meaning that depending on field position and down and distance we will still throw the ball away instead of taking that shot down field... yes, there is a chance of interception at times, but, depending on those things I mentioned it equals to no more than punting anyway if you are intercepted... however, you down throw away the chance of a completion, or the frequent PI call, and deep the offense moving for the sake of not throwing the INT... in a lot of instances you may rather have your QB throw that INT to a DB instead of punting to a return specialist... it's not something you necessarily plan to do all the time but there are times in a game where it makes sense... Lapo doesn't exhibit a lot of trust in Nichols by the game plan he gives him... if Nichols happens to throw an INT, Lapo really tightens things up in the manner in which he calls plays... you'll see all of our receivers in the same 5 to 7 yard zone trying to find a hole to become a target... another thing with Nichols is that he seems to be very streaky, i.e. when he gets on a roll and things are going good we gets better as he goes... on the other hand, if he gets off to a rocky start he tends to keep moving in the wrong direction... look at the first time he played Hamilton this year, he was coming off that long streak of completions and in his first throw of that game he threw an interception and from there on the wheels fell completely off... he had 3 INTs that game and maybe a fumble as well... the offense as a group had 6 turn overs... but it was like quicksand for him that night, just kept getting worse... the best thing that can happen for Nichols is to hit a long ball right out of the gates and he builds on it... when he's on, he's very good... but if you give him safe, as Lapo does, that's what you get, safe... but, if you give him a scheme that creates seperation for the receivers, gets the defense out of the way a bit, it allows for larger throwing windows and lanes for him to pass, which he really benefits from... but if I were his OC, I'd try to start with a big play out of the gates and then a few shorter passes to get him a good place and then start opening up the offense with more layered routes and at varying depths to allow him to be successful early and to build on it... otherwise, we have a hard time 'turning things up' if needed late in the game and tend to struggle greatly to move the chains and keep the ball and scoring... Nichols has gotten the label of 'game manager'... people try to spin that into a positive but we all know that it's a negative... nobody wants to be labeled a game manager because it says you lack the ability to be a dynamic QB... it basically says 'you suck'... when being a game manager becomes acceptable it also becomes the norm... we have proof of that...

that hinges on the amount of time that the o line gives the QB... the last 3 games the o line has played very well, however, if I chart both Streveler's and Collaros' last regular season games you would see that they are indeed almost identical... but I will add that Lapo does seem to trust Collaros a bit more than the other two in regards to calling the deep ball... Collaros had three 20+ yd completions in the last game, the other two rarely saw 3 deep calls... which is good, but that is about the only real difference between the game plan... I've posted this before, but I'll add it again as it does illustrates how similar those 2 games I mentioned above are... the 'targets by depth' is telling...

I'm telling you, over time you see that Lapo would do it to any QB in his system... look at Nichols numbers since coming to Winnipeg... here's a hint, they've gone done each year...

here's the one for Streveler through the same time frame as Nichols above... as you can see, though fewer dots, a very definite pattern in regards to location...

I haven't done one for Collaros yet, but it shouldn't take long to whip one up, it's only 3 games... and I need to update Streveler's... but I'll throw them together and put them up for you!

I made an error, by the game that he got injured he was no longer last in the league at 20+ yd attempts, my apologies... he had worked his way up to 6th, or 3rd from last... so again, I mis-spoke, just wanted to put that correction out there...

I don't disagree, but like I said in my last post above, Nichols had the lowest completion percentage in the league for throws that were at 20+ yd depth when he got injured... last...

I beg to differ, I am looking at the 'complete picture', in fact I included the complete picture... that image depicts every pass that Nichols threw this year... it should be obvious that shorter throws are usually easier to complete than longer ones, hence the higher rating obtained... I hardly see how it's taking a dump on Nichols... it is what it is... also, when he got injured, he had the lowest completion percentage for passes 20+ yds in the league... not an opinion, an actual fact...

if you were to back out the QB sneak plays from Streveler's stats you'd see that he actually has a higher yd per carry avg than Harris does...

no hypocrisy from me... Nichols lack of real success is squarely on Lapo's shoulders... while I don't think we could ever be elite, not enough of a risk taker, he could be a very compentent and capable QB with a more dynamic game plan... for sure, he gets credit for them all, but, the red/blue dots far out weigh the yellow ones... all I'm saying...

here's the thing that kills me about Lapo and Nichols... it's relying on Harris to be out in the flat to catch that screen pass... oh, it's great for keeping Nichols numbers up but they suck as a play... you know why he's always open there? because the defense is giving us that play because it sucks... we'd be better off having Harris stay in the back field and block and have Nichols try to complete a play down field because... getting 3 yds on a screen pass when it's 2nd and 8 still equals a punt... that play is not better than throwing the ball out of bounds...

but all of those red and blue dots beyond the 10 yd line, that's all Nichols...

oh, they go hand in hand for sure... but to achieve the rating you have to be the one throwing the ball... so to use a QB rating to say someone is good you have to take into consideration where he throwing the ball... though the location is more on Lapo than Nichols, it's about completing passes to get the rating... when you're throwing on avg shorter that 3 yds you had better have a high rating....

when this is where you are throwing the ball you had better have a high QB rating...

now that would have been something! lol... it is a small world... I avoid Branson like the plague... that place has grown so big... and it was a small place to begin with so it doesn't really have the infrastructure, traffic wise, to support the community very well... it's such a cluster *** dealing with trying to get around that place... the Lake of the Ozarks has finally addressed those types of issues but the lake boat traffic is terrible and all the rich people, really rich, have built houses on the lake and the rest is condos... hardly a cabin left down there... one of my friends built a $7M home on that lake... I'm only about 30 mins north of there... never go though, lol...

it's funny... when I first started walking (7 miles a day) for exercise I had me a route through town, etc... for the first week or so it seemed like about every other car that past me would slow down and ask if I needed a ride somewhere, lol...

I agree 100% as I live here by choice as well... my daughter has moved off to the 'big city' but the rest of my family is all within 3 sq miles of each other... every Sunday we all still go back to my mom's for lunch... there is 4 generations of us sitting around the table (and a couple of card tables, lol) now a days, lol... the majority of the people/friends I went to school with and grew up with are all still pretty much here as well.. no way! I'm about 2 hours from Table Rock (beautiful place) but probably 4 hrs from the Cape... I had no clue that you had history in Missouri, lol...

now that would be something, lol... I just couldn't imagine something like that, but it makes sense though when you consider land mass we are about the same but you all only have 10% of the population as we do... you'd hate to break down somewhere along side the road 200 miles from anywhere, lol...

I can relate, maybe not to the extent that you have experienced but I have several small places, more like wide spots in the road, that are so small they don't have population signs when you enter... the kind of place that Northern Skunk is talking about, no business at all, no mail boxes, you have to go pick up your mail from a post office, place with like 25 people living there, lol... where I'm located it is a lot of rural/farming community... we are the county seat as we are the largest town in the county... but on the flip side, I'm only about 90 minutes from either KC or STL... 45 mins from Columbia as well... so you get the rural atmosphere while still being close enough to the 'big cities' to address your needs if you want...

it's finally gotten cool enough that I can wear my Bomber hoodie, which is good...

yeah, I think it would be safe to say that the town folk felt like he had it coming... lol... generally though, justice is about how much justice you can afford in these small towns... luckily I live in a pretty well established community where we have very little crime to speak of... actually my family has lived in this county longer than any other family , since 1863... but you tend to know everybody and everybody knows your business as well... 90% of the time my truck will be sitting in the driveway with the keys in it and whether I'm home or not the front door is usually unlocked, lol... but there is a lot of history in Missouri and a ton of cool, and werid, stories about the communities and people...
