Just so I'm clear for tonight...the Nationalized American rule (the 7 CDNs + 1 fake Canadian)? Or the Designated Nationalized American rule (the now-25 snaps one)?
-
For whatever reason the CFL's stats system adds up the total yards of penalties and handed out and writes that instead of yardage assigned to each penalty. Fairly annoying if you're trying to keep track at home.

LOL...in the post-game I even prefaced it with "Mike, I know you don't want to hear this but it's for Bombers fans..." I didn't get much past "...tying Bud..." before he took the headset off joking "Oh, can't hear you...static" 🤣

CFL - 2024 Regular Season - Discussion Thread
DTonOB replied to BigBlue's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
As I read the CBA, teams have to spend a *minimum* of $110,000 per year on "Non-Football Related Services". That $110K counts under the Total Salary Expenditure Cap (this season it's $5.635 million. Up to $5.76 million next season). The thought that it doesn't count against the cap is mostly correct. I don't see anything in the CBA that mentions a maximum for "Non-Football Related Services". What I've heard is that the CFL wants teams to "just be cool" about it (ie. don't go nuts and spend a zillion dollars there). It's got to be a tricky spot for owners collectively. If one decides to spendspendspend I can't imagine the rest could do much to stop him. And if I was the players union I would want a MAJOR concession to put a specified limit on that money. -

In the Montreal game they lined up Haba as a standup rusher inside...I counted 6 snaps of that. It was always with Kyrie and Cole at LB, and then Willie & Fox as proper DEs. -
GDT - Winnipeg Blue Bombers at Toronto Argonauts

It turned out as a little of both. A trainer runs on and gives players some water, and there's a ******* with the flow of the Bombers O. But at a point the officials caught their mistake, and they do start to run the clock with the 20-second clock. (Collaros had to point out that the clock and play clock weren't running together and the officials fixed it. -

O'Shea also pointed to something I hadn't thought of on the PI...that Amos's leg is turning Demski's lower body. -

The only full series Jefferson has missed was Calgary's 1-play drive that ended with Ford's interception. They may have been planning to sit him for a late Ottawa drive. But then Bonds got hurt and Jefferson came back in for the next play. I have him missing 9 defensive snaps through 5 games. For Thomas, he sat out 16 snaps in the first game (they were running a bunch of 3 LB package with Cole/Karamoko). And 19 total in the four games since then. -

99% sure they'll bring Lucky Ogbevoen onto the roster at DE for this week. See what he can do and bridge to Garbutt's return next week. -

The 2022 CBA no longer mentions game-day scratches. It talks about a minimum of 44 and a maximum of 45 players. That 45th could be a second global or another Canadian (presuming a team already has its maximum 19 Americans)
-
100%. If Haba (or any backup American DL) was on, DNA Jeffcoat and then you could run a NASCAR package of Jefferson, Jeffcoat, Haba and Walker for 23 snaps. They just didn't appear to want to use those kind of packages. And there weren't a ton of American backups to work in.
-
We've asked, for sure. Generally he will not answer strategy or roster questions. And he will push away questions sometimes by saying that he doesn't really understand the rules (when I'd bet he knows them all backwards and forwards). The DNA rule is the one I think of...he used it for Janarion 5 times last season and I think that was it. He would say he didn't think it would help with the roster they had that week. I stopped being curious about that because there weren't a ton of games where I thought DNA would make a difference. They started 8 true Canadians (plus the nationalized guy, whoever that was game in, game out). And their rotational defensive linemen were Canadian (Bennett, Lawson, Schemekel). I guess he could have DNA'd Kyrie Wilson/Bighill thus allowing Cole/Clements to play 23 snaps for Thomas or Kramdi. As for the players he selects...he would say that Kramdi earned the spot over Darby, for example. There's not a lot to call out in that scenario. There's been more than a few guys over the years where I thought "I don't get it". But, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Is there another competitive advantage you're thinking of?
-
Sure. There's a good 30-45 minutes a day on the 680 CJOB Sports Show with Christian. Plus training camp hits in sports at 625, 725, 825, 925am and 325, 425 and 525 pm. And we'll have two hours pre-game Monday starting at 1:00pm. We've hit all those topics over the first 10 days. Since I've got some time sitting in Regina: 1) We've seen Shayne Gauthier + Kyrie Wilson / Kyrie + Brian Cole as the LB combos post-Bighill. John Petrishen + Tre Thomas has been another duo from the start. Anyone else isn't getting a ton of work. 2) Liam Dobson at left guard and Eric Lofton at right tackle every day so far. I think Ted Wyman was the first to touch on it on May 12. The only time it wasn't Dobson a LG was the last day because of injuries to Eli and injury/day off for Kolankowski. Dobson shifted to center for that one. 3) Michael Chris-Ike is slowly getting more action in a FB/TE roll after his late arrival. Gabe Wallace was getting first-team reps with the injuries to Neufeld and Eli. They are by far the closest to making an impact early in the season. Clercius is down around the 3rd group of receivers. Kalra is much closer than Vlahogiannis. And Leroux is 100% going back to school, so apart from 1 day where we talked about him, we'll catch up with him next year. Gassama and Hubert appear far down the pecking order. 4) 1st team has been Haba and Fox since day 1. 5) KJ Hill never seemed to get above the third group. And when he got hurt and wasn't going to recover in time, they released him. Had he appeared with the first team like a Ravi Alston, Ontaria Wilson or Myron Mitchell there would have been more talk about Hill. There were roughly 8 guys vying for return spots. They *might* be down to 4, but there are virtually no returns in camp. Without full-speed contact, they aren't worth much. Pre-season games are where we'll see who's who.
-
They must sit Week 1 at least. Correct on the ability to come off early for no cap savings. Two possibilities from camp: 1) Gauthier swaps in for Bighill at MIKE. 2) Wilson moves to MIKE, Brian Cole at WILL
-
Just confirmed that it *does* carry into the season. They'll all have to miss, at least, week 1.
-
100% not retiring. Just a roster move.
-
In these situations he likes to say something to the effect of "they learn all the positions". Some guys are a little more revealing, like Brian Cole talking about moving to DB and backing up Redha.
-
I've been trying to figure out the snaps where it looks like Kramdi is playing safety. I think it's actually Nichols who they're moving to safety. It's during the skeleton period so it's very tough to tell. The reps in question come when put Tyrique McGhee in at the boundary corner and move Parker into half.
-
Here's what I noted on day 1: Bryant-Dobson-Kolankowski-Eli/Wallace(for Neufeld)-Lofton Lawler-Schoen-Murphy(for Demski)-Alston-Wolitarsky Augustine (for Oliveira) Collaros Jefferson-Thomas-Fox-Haba Wilson-Bighill Parker-Nichols-Nick Hallett (for BA)-Holm-Ford-Kramdi Tyrique McGhee appears right in the mix as well. And it felt like a lot of Lawson with Thomas in the early portion.

The way it's laid out in the CBA says: For 2024 the "Salary Expenditure Cap" is $5,525,000. Then the "Non-Football Related Services minimum additional amount" is $110,000 for a "Total Salary Expenditure Cap" of $5,635,000. $110K is the number for this year and is the minimum per year going forward if league revenue doesn't increase (the table in Article 30 lays out the cap through 2028 season). If league revenue does increase, the amount available to players for promotion/outreach would also increase. To me it reads like 'You have to pay your players exactly $110k on promotion and outreach and you need to be able to prove guys are working for it.'
