Blue Bombers - 2024 Regular Season - Discussion Thread
Pete replied to Noeller's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
granted, that Thomas lacks the mobility to drive pressures, however i feel the bigger issue is that who do we have that is better? Woods hasn't provided pressures, Adams shows some promise but overall our interior quality is lacking when it comes to quarterback pressures Obviously at the beginning of the year Lawton was pencilled in to be the starter based on his salary, but that ended with injury -

O'Shea gets blamed for the roster decisions and the buck should stop there (no pun intended) but how much say does younger and buck have in who we play, and keep on the roster? Buck and Younger/Hall are veteran coaches and O'Shea has never been accused of running a dictatorship so what gives? -

Testiment to how poor our scouting is this year that we don:t have a import true de available other than jefferson. Also to how stubborn O'Shea is ,Lucky should be in,,Johnson has shown nothing , and wilson for all the opportunity is awful -

Kyrie is underated and very good, the issue is with Bighill lacking the range, he is being spread thin We should have made a play for titus wall, as an upgrade to Kramdl who is serviceable but not elite -
I agree Kramdl doesnt have the speed for coverage situations, when he has to cover a slotback he is at a disadvantage. He does have a lot of good instincts and is great in a number of defensive schemes, but I would like to see Griffin utilized a lot more or Ayers. Im not sure what is happening with Cole but they don't seem to have much faith in him at times. Kramdl is another example of this teams reluctance to not make changes to vets roles. (much like Alexander and Thomas)

Don't understand the negativity on the defense, linebackers stopped the run. Defensive backs played one of the best games i've seen This loss was totally on the offense. That they could only manage 6 points in the first half with Collaros is terrible. Zac refuses to utilize the rookies and continually tried to force balls to Demski. Buck also needs to incorporate plays that take advantage of what skills the recievers do have. Has he ever heard of throwing a screen pass, or if they are stopping olivera against the run. find other ways to get him the ball

most of the posts point to vets that have been cut in the off season, Have we cut a vet in season or even at the end of training camp? Its either a testament to poor scouting or stubbornness -

I can't remember when we last cut a vet that was under contract, if we do move anyone its cause we cant afford the cap hit. Every other team takes stock and decides to move on ie Calgary Titus Wall, BC Sayles, Edmonton Bailey Jones, Sask FIne. Lenius, etc. We seem to be striving to remain status quo, which only works for a short time. ( not to mention the cost of retaining vets keeps going up). I know O'Shea has a lot of loyalty to his vet players, but a good managed team has to strive for improvement. -

Maybe so,but sometimes it takes an aged vet longer to get into game shape/mentality. -

I also think how we played was a reflection of our preparation vs talent. The decision to not play vets in preseason left them rusty and not able to execute as needed. Of all the qbs Zac had the most issues which I don't see continuing. The Ottawa game will be a better indicator. -

another example of our poor scouting this year. We had 100 players in camp, and only Adams and Woods have made any kind of good impression as rookies. We don't have a true de to back up Haba/Jefferson, our returners look much the same as when Grant went down ly and we tried to repurpose someone else (i.e. Parker and Mcghee) Is Feltmate being brought in because Chris-Ike isn't showing enough? -
Lol.. elk player touches the center early... a minute later the center falls over!
-
watching Leake and Alford... am jealous and more annoyed in our efforts to get a returner
-
between mbt and harris feel like I'm watching clones. Sask O line does look better though even if its early
-
sign Tevin Jones

If you had told me Smeckel would be in our starting roster prior to training camp I would say either your nuts or we drafted terribly. Kudos to him for having worked so hard to belong. For the first game you know O'Shea was going to have vets start out of respect and I can't blame him But i wouldn't be surprised by end of game if a number of so called backups ended up playing more snaps Also many seem to be inferring that Younger and Buck have no say in the lineups, since their futures lie in teams performance I find that hard to believe
-
I think part of the reason Zac isn't playing is we're still evaluating the oline, Until we have our number one unit I can't see having Zac in and risking a big hit on a breakdown . We have Coleman, Ivy, Dobson Wallace and Lofton as starting. Yikes. It is concerning that we havent narrowed down the candidates more throughout the lineup. We do need a guy with potential to replace schoen or lawler if we can't afford both next year
-
Sorry, i dont buy the argument that lbs aren't key parts of defense. (Especially in our defense where lbs are critical parts of qb pressures) The criticism of Bighill performance isn't new, but not sure its warranted. I agree the concern on health is.
-
It was Kramdl's turn yesterday, today Bighill. You'd think our defense was the worst in the league ly, oh wait no one gave up less points than us Hard to do if your lbs arent performing
-
Kramdl as mentioned before is a decent sam , my concern is hes being paid to be more than that.Especially since we dont have a strong need for a starting cdn.
-
just saw the db salaries on 3down, I had no idea we would be paying Kramdl top db money (1. Between him and Lawton feells like 125-139k . and Lawton 135k. Feels like we are overpaying . Especially if |Cole moves to that position. Could have used that for de .

its only day 1.. hard to read anything into it. For wr they likely just went alphabetically so ALston was first up😉 Oshea did confirm that several of the cuts were for injury related reasons ie Bennet. Fayad, Randolph, who will be reassessed when healthy. (wonder if any were due to conditioning concerns? )
