Experience debate aside, I'm all for equality. 50 of the 184 (or 27%) seats that the liberals won are woman.

I don't understand this either. Why schedule a meeting if there is no suspension. There shouldn't have even been a review on this hit.

Patrick Kane Under Investigation - Alleged Rape
Rich replied to The Unknown Poster's topic in Winnipeg Jets Discussion
I don't equate not suspending a player as thumbing your nose at a rape accusation. The States and Canada have due process for a reason. We will never know what happened especially with the whole string of events with the Mother and attorney stepping down. You make your assumptions based on what is reported in the media and reputation. Not enough IMO. The police never had enough evidence or cooperation to lay charges. And they are the one with all the evidence. -
Patrick Kane Under Investigation - Alleged Rape
Rich replied to The Unknown Poster's topic in Winnipeg Jets Discussion
Caught the ending discussion about this on H&L last night. They compared it to the Voynov case where the NHL was able to do an independent investigation and corroborate that there was evidence to support the accusation. Where as in the Kane case, the only evidence really appears to be rape kit which the NHL would not be able to get access to the results. There is no doubt the NHL would have launched its own internal investigation into this and their inaction would have been in the lack of anything they could find. Which I think is the right thing to do. Of course the police handle these cases differently. The public scrutiny in a high profile case always changes the game because of the amount of media coverage and publicity around it. They don’t want to make mistakes. In cases like these, I don’t think the NHL should be suspending a player until charges are laid or they have their own evidence to proceed (like the NFL getting the security tapes in the Ray Rice incident). I don’t think accusations are enough. -
Patrick Kane Under Investigation - Alleged Rape

If charged, this will be a test of the NHL... do they immediately suspend him? Do the Blackhawks? Should they? What happened to innocent until proven guilty. Should be immediately suspended. Too serious. Its not like he wouldnt get paid. This isnt like you or me at our jobs and even then some places would suspend or fire their employees after a charge. So I know we still don't really know what happened and probably never will, but I'm curious now that we know the result of the criminal investigation and lack of charges being pressed, do you still think he should have been suspended back in August? Curious for the discussion the next time something like this happens. -

If anything Buff letup after knocking the puck away and didn’t throw the full force of his body into the check. I swear every 2 – 3 games, Buff gets a penalty for a check that sends the other player flying simply because of the size difference. Buff is now a multiple offender. 4 games minimum for this. Time to trade him if the league is going to keep penalizing him for his size.

lots of good players, but how many great players? How many guys are legitimately players we can consider among the best at their positions in the league? Some linebackers maybe, Westerman, some DBs perhaps but other than that is there anyone? I always ask myself if I were to buy a new jersey, who would I put on the back. And there really isn't anyone on this team I would choose (for whatever reason, never been a fan of putting QBs on my jerseys). Which is why I now wear my retro Walby jersey to the games.
-
Ladd dropped the gloves and started fighting Gallagher and Gallagher wanted nothing of it. Don't think Ladd would have got the penalty there if he didn't drop the gloves.
-
Buff gets called on penalties all the time for simply being bigger than the other guy.
-
Why single out Petan for rest? He doesn't get that many minutes in a game. More likely they thought it was going to be a more physical game.

We shouldn't really be pasting full articles from any site, especially articles behind a pay wall.
-
I have considered a couple of times now to cut the Free Press articles out now that they are behind a pay wall. But they don't really hurt anyone there and people who do have access may appreciate them. The only other news feed is the Winnipeg Sun. Personally, I wouldn't like mixing in those news articles with the regular discussion. There is no time investment so no time wasted. The site has an automated feature that posts those articles. It really costs nothing to do it. The only reason to take it away is if it really really annoys a large percentage of posters who see it and can't read it. I can investigate this a little further. Basically the site can post any articles from any news site that has an RSS feed (which most do). The only caveat being they would have to have a separate RSS feed for just the CFL articles unless people were okay getting ALL their articles for every sport. I'll put a poll on this thread and see what people think. Feel free to post your thoughts and preferences as well.

I've changed my mind. I'm not going to lock the thread. I will let both of you keep going in circles and show everyone on this site how immature BOTH of you are being just to get the last word in. You are both being utterly ridiculous.

Don't make me lock this topic because you guys are going to have a pissing match about right and wrong.

Salary is more important than cap hit for a budget team. Cap hit really only matters when you are close to the cap which the Jets most certainly are not.
-
The season is early and (knock on wood) the Jets haven't had any injuries yet. Petan will get his chance to move up to another line. Just have to be patient.
-
Actual salary (not cap hit) goes like this: Myers 2015 - $5M 2016 - $4M 2017 - $3.5M 2018 - $3M Gardiner: 2015 - $4M 2016 - $4M 2017 - $4M 2018 - $3.7M Given the skillset and potential of each who would you actually prefer to have.... Toby's cap hit and salary are the same. $5.75M each year remaining on his contract (until 2018 / 2019)
-
Myers contract was front loaded so his actual salary is less than his cap hit. Buffalo already paid off the expensive years. That is very important for a non cap team like the Jets because they don't spend to the cap. So it gives them more wiggle room with their internal cap because their internal cap is based on actual dollars paid out, not AAV.

The Next Step to Excitement: Change the Safety Touch
Rich replied to BigBlue's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
What would you have to do for the eight point, and why wouldn't you always try it if there isn't a downside? (ie. now the downside is getting no points instead of 1 point) Or maybe this was your intention with the rule? -
White Guy suing Canada Revenue Agency for discrimination
Rich replied to Taynted_Fayth's topic in General Discussion
Personality or skills pertaining to your job isn't really what I was alluding to. We all judge people on how they look every day, and that isn't confined to the colour of their skin or their gender. The first time we meet someone, we all make initial judgements and assumptions on them by the way they look. It is the way most of us are wired. And even if we solve the gender and skin equality problem, I'm pretty sure that with human nature being what it is, as a society we will start discriminating on something else (like the God they worship or their sexual preference or the color of their hair or their height, etc, etc). Maybe if we ever meet other intelligent life in the universe, maybe then we can unify as a species and be intolerant as a group towards them. I'm not saying we shouldn't strive to stop it or do better, all I'm saying is everyone needs to recognize and admit that we all do it, be cognizant of it, and try to not do it when it happens. As for this guy and his lawsuit, I agree it is bogus. I do think there is an inherit flaw in how public service does its hiring and promotions, but that is an entirely different discussion.
