  1. Don't make me lock this topic because you guys are going to have a pissing match about right and wrong.
  2. Salary is more important than cap hit for a budget team. Cap hit really only matters when you are close to the cap which the Jets most certainly are not.
  3. The season is early and (knock on wood) the Jets haven't had any injuries yet. Petan will get his chance to move up to another line. Just have to be patient.
  4. Actual salary (not cap hit) goes like this: Myers 2015 - $5M 2016 - $4M 2017 - $3.5M 2018 - $3M Gardiner: 2015 - $4M 2016 - $4M 2017 - $4M 2018 - $3.7M Given the skillset and potential of each who would you actually prefer to have.... Toby's cap hit and salary are the same. $5.75M each year remaining on his contract (until 2018 / 2019)
  5. Myers contract was front loaded so his actual salary is less than his cap hit. Buffalo already paid off the expensive years. That is very important for a non cap team like the Jets because they don't spend to the cap. So it gives them more wiggle room with their internal cap because their internal cap is based on actual dollars paid out, not AAV.
  6. What would you have to do for the eight point, and why wouldn't you always try it if there isn't a downside? (ie. now the downside is getting no points instead of 1 point) Or maybe this was your intention with the rule?
  7. Personality or skills pertaining to your job isn't really what I was alluding to. We all judge people on how they look every day, and that isn't confined to the colour of their skin or their gender. The first time we meet someone, we all make initial judgements and assumptions on them by the way they look. It is the way most of us are wired. And even if we solve the gender and skin equality problem, I'm pretty sure that with human nature being what it is, as a society we will start discriminating on something else (like the God they worship or their sexual preference or the color of their hair or their height, etc, etc). Maybe if we ever meet other intelligent life in the universe, maybe then we can unify as a species and be intolerant as a group towards them. I'm not saying we shouldn't strive to stop it or do better, all I'm saying is everyone needs to recognize and admit that we all do it, be cognizant of it, and try to not do it when it happens. As for this guy and his lawsuit, I agree it is bogus. I do think there is an inherit flaw in how public service does its hiring and promotions, but that is an entirely different discussion.
  8. If both these statements are true, then maybe the self identification on job applications and organizations looking at their gender and racial percentages is to offset the bias that is inherently out there. At the end of the day, I would really prefer to have the best qualified person get the job. But in reality, even if it is all people of a specific demographic, the most qualified person doesn't always get the job. Everything from how someone looks to speaks to presents themselves all play a part in the selection process. Someone may be excluded because they "look" or remind someone of another person they dislike. That is no fault of their own. We are all biased in a myriad of ways we don't even recognize. Also, all these things are trends and statistics of the greater population. To the average person, the only thing that really matters is how it affects them. If they are denied getting a job or promotion because of the way they look or because they belong to a specific demographic, it really sucks for them in that specific instance. The unfortunate part is people are usually only aware of when this sort of thing affects them negatively. They rarely think, hey I got this job or promotion because of the way I look or because of the way someone else looks. People tend to think they got a job because they were the best qualified person, so that balance and perspective of weighing the positive and negative is rarely considered.

  10. I wouldn't be surprised if it has. Not bad pocket change for Xmas, is it? It is a huge bonus for players making the minimum 40ish k
  11. Back in 2010 the Grey Cup winning players earned an extra $22,800 throughout the 3 week playoffs. The losers in the Grey Cup took home $14,800. Teams going out in each of the prior rounds would go down from there. Don't know if it has gone up since with the new TV deal.
  12. I was fortunate enough to get a tour of the stadium prior to it opening and before it was completely finished. The project manager gave us the tour and he basically said he was up most nights re-working and tinkering with the plans so that they could finish it within budget. The contingency they had was ridiculously low.
  13. Because this whole thing started with Asper getting the plans drawn up and wanting to buy the team to get things done. The purchase never happened, new deals were made, and Aspers original plans used.
  14. Morrissey has regressed and it looks like his confidence is shot when you watch him play. Hopefully he can regain his game over the course of this season. Still young and still early to panic, but he is definitely struggling.
  15. Also of note, Bogosian has yet to play a game this year. Even if Armia is a complete bust, early evidence say the Jets won this trade in a land slide.
  16. Sometimes the refs really are right....
  17. Tough week with mbrg having the best week with 3 correct picks, everyone else was 2 or less. Blueandgold is still in the lead with 50 correct picks, saskbluefan nipping at his heels with 49 and biggjay in 3rd with 46. Leaderboard can be seen here: http://morningbigblue.com/community/index.php?app=pickems&do=leaderboard&pid=6&wid=88 This weeks picks need to be in by Friday at 6PM. Picks can be made here: http://morningbigblue.com/community/index.php?app=pickems&do=games&pid=6&wid=89
  18. If an OC has inspirations of being a HC, maybe that will actually draw them here. If you look at the history of this club in the last few years, whoever get promoted on an "interim" basis automatically gets the gig in the off season. If O'Shea gets fired mid season, he'd have a 50/50 shot of becoming HC.
  19. Lets not forget that Folik's wife was reportedly not happy in Winnipeg either. Even at the same money and contract length, chances are he wasn't re-signing here anyway.
  20. 73. Think his political days are done
  21. I think the question that needs to be answered is does his coaching style still fit in today's NHL. Even if he does turn things around in Columbus and makes them into a winner, I wouldn't want him representing and being the face of my franchise.
  22. This is really just going in circles now. Election over. Thread over.
  23. Today is the day that Marty goes back to the Future...... Where are my self adjusting jackets? My flying cars? My hover boards? Where is Jaws 19 and the abolishment of lawyers? It was all just a lie, wasn't it?
