  1. Just want to clarify what you are posting here ... are you suggesting that if we keep O'Shea we will be in danger of losing our franchise?
  2. Not Jets news, but this is a huge suspension. Don't remember one being this long before.
  3. Lipon has been sent to the Moose, but Maurice had this to say about him. Love these types of players when they are on your team. He will probably get a call up at some point this season. Definitely made an impression in camp.
  4. It is a good question, and I don't really have the answer. Mark might have some more insight / opinion on this because he is more intimately involved in farming than I.
  5. It isn't subsidized through taxes. The consumer is paying an inflated price because the supply is artificially constrained. Lets say we made it so that only 100 bottles of Cola can be sold in Canada in a given year. How much do you think the price of Cola would sky rocket? That is basically what has happened with milk (though obviously more then 100 bottles can be sold) However, tt is not just milk that is supply managed, it is cheese, eggs, and poultry as well.
  6. how much milk do you drink? It's not even about how much dairy I consume. Its about all the money our health care system wastes treating people with lifestly diseases (type 2 diabetes) when milk is 5 bucks a litre or more, artifically above demand due to commie practices and soda is a buck a litre Not the government's job to tell people to stop drinking soda by the keg. Although in general Im in favour of "sin" taxes including on things like soda which have zero value to humans and do harm (and I say THAT as a reformed Pepsi addict who LOVES Dr Pepper). Neither Milk nor Soda is a necessity. So the price should be market driven. I know this is a slippery slope but should you care since we have public health care? And as for the supply managed comments... Fraser is right, despite your feelings on milk, I’m surprised you aren’t against supply management in Canada. In case you don’t know milk, cheese, eggs and poultry in Canada are supply managed which means the farmers who produce these things need to own a quota to produce and sell these goods. The quotas themselves can be sold and purchased between producers. This system manages the supply (goods produced) and the prices they are sold at. I worked with Ag Canada for many years in their disaster and financial assistance programs (much government funding goes into this to help our farmers along). Supply managed producers (or at least those portions of their operations) were almost always excluded from federal assistance programs because these producers are basically guaranteed to make a predetermined profit. And you as a consumer pay the higher price for that. Here is Wikipedia's commentary on the effect on consumers:

  8. Wonder if it will only be for drafted nationals. Or if it would be for all first contract players.
  9. The issue is they don't know what is going to happen so the prudent course would be to simply choose someone else.
  10. Interesting read on how he ended up going into hockey over football. http://www.nhl.com/ice/news.htm?id=679806
  11. Do you think marketing should have chosen a different player? http://thehockeywriters.com/chicago-blackhawks-schedule-kane-bobblehead-night/
  12. Yes if someone really wants to kill a bunch of people there will always be ways to do it. But if you make it harder to do, then the person has to be really determined to do it over an extended period of time. Why are things not to the same extreme in Canada as they are in the states? Some of it might be culture and up-bringing, but both countries get pretty much the same media and are very close in culture. Canada has stricter gun laws then the states. Most of the people who end up doing these things have severe mental problems. A lot of those involve high volatility and swings from happy to mad / depressed. If the gun is easy to get when they are in a “low”, then they can easily act out. If all they have to act out is a bomb recipe, then they have to go to the internet, look up the cook book on how to make the bomb, then get all the components, then assemble it all, then act out. If they can even accomplish all of that, by the time they do it all, they may now be moving into an upswing. Why don't we leave loaded guns on every street corner? Do you think that would make gun related deaths go up or down? If it is really just about the person, that shouldn't matter, right? People need to be responsible for their actions, but we don't have to make ridiculous actions (like using semi or fully automatic weapons) easy for people to do.
  13. For sure people are to blame, but having the guns and assault rifles so readily available exacerbate the problem. Someone wants to try this with a knife? He needs to get into close proximity to each person to stab them (unless he has a bunch of knives and is really good at throwing them ninja style), and a group of people could swarm him to take him down. With a fully automatic weapon he can clear the whole room from the door way without anyone having a chance to defend themselves.
  14. What can possible go wrong with this.... http://pix11.com/2015/10/01/peeple-ceo-defends-new-app-after-backlash-from-critics/
  15. Wouldn't Wpg be in the market for the same reason? Durant is 33. Willy is 28. Durant has gone out to injury 2 years in a row now and you have to wonder how many years he has left in him at his age. Willy is really just entering his prime years as a QB. Of course I'm not sure how much sense it makes trading in an injured 33 year old Durant for an injured 35 (soon to be 36)year old Ray.
  16. I believe Ray is a free agent after this season. You're right. http://www.cfl.ca/article/argos-announce-extension-for-ricky-ray-through-2015 Will be interesting to see how much a 35 year old Ray will get on the open market. Henry was older and do you remember what he fetched. I think the rumours were that he signed for 400k+ per year.
  17. I believe Ray is a free agent after this season. You're right. http://www.cfl.ca/article/argos-announce-extension-for-ricky-ray-through-2015 Will be interesting to see how much a 35 year old Ray will get on the open market.
  18. At first I thought "way to go Peluso" but I think it was Peluso being very concerned. He didnt play well, has shown nothing and Raffl is a much better every day player on that 4th line. And if Raffl can fight, why keep Peluso. But now we will never know. I also thought it was cheap. If it wasnt Raffl...if it was Ehlers or Scheif or Petan or whomever, then all day long jump in and protect your guy. But if the roles were reversed and an opposing player challenged...say, Burmi to a fight and they dropped their gloves and suddenly that team's enforcer jumped in, we'd be calling for a suspension. The problem with that is Bollig isn't like Burmi. Bollig is a fighter. So it would be like if a player challenged Peluso to a fight and their enforcer jumped in. I don't think there would be quite the up roar. That is the only thing that makes me hesitate on this. Did Peluso think that Raffl would have been in over his head.
  19. Ray is still under contract for next year, isn't he? Would Toronto trade Ray within the division? Or try to trade him out West. SK could be in the market for a QB next year if they decide Durant doesn't have the durability anymore.
  20. Caught a bit of the discussion on 1290 this morning regarding the Peluso fight in last night’s game. Raffle initiated the fight and was about to start when Peluso steps in to take over. Was this a case of Peluso doing his job or trying to protect his job? Both these guys could be considered to be on the bubble this year. If Raffle shows he can fight, does that make Peluso more expendable?
  21. Lawless did his Twitter questions this morning. - Doesn't think Raffl will accept an AHL assignment. Isn't sure there is room for him on the Jets. Thinks he will go back to Austria - 99% that Ehlers made the team - Thinks Petan made the team (4th line to start), though not set in stone.. Doesn't see anyone ahead of him right now, but 3 other players playing for that spot and 1 more game to go - No Progress No Talks on Buff's contract - Lipon on the bubble
  22. Thats some fancy stick handling by Petan to setup Scheifele for that goal.
  23. I don't think there is any local games televised. You can stream them from the AHL website. All Moose games would cost you $150. https://ahl.neulion.com/ahl/secure/registerform
