  1. We really don't need any more D. We have 9 under contract right now. Enstrom Myers Chiarot Trouba Stuart Byguflien Postma Pardy Harrisson Then Clitsome if he can play next year. A top 6 forward and a 4th line winger would be nice. Don't think the top 6 is really out there though.
  2. Here is a link to the Petan cam. The footage from the camera is actually kind of disappointing, I wonder if it would have been better if it was on his head rather than chest. http://video.jets.nhl.com/videocenter/console?id=831713&catid=96
  3. Pretty much. Perreault is a centre at 5'10" 185 that plays mostly on the wing with the Jets. Petan is 5'9" 165. Granted Petan has time to put some weight on, but even 20 pounds to get to Perreault's playing weight is a lot for someone his size. Speed is a big part of Petan's game, and even Ehlers was saying in this training camp that he noticed his speed take a hit when he put on a lot of weight fast. Petan will be able to make the roster sooner on the wing. Always exceptions of course. Tyler Johnson from Tampa Bay is 5'8" 183 lbs and plays centre.
  4. I'd be shocked if Petan ends up playing centre in the NHL.
  5. Totally agree. What the **** were the refs looking at? There should be a suspension and fine. The ref should also be fined for missing the call. The coach should be giving permission to the oline to go after any player that cheap shots our qb. Time to start sending a message to other teams that this **** won't go unpunished. I hope Walters has sent the film to the commish What I don't understand is how the Bomber hogs let that cheap shot artist live They have been hired to protect the QB
  6. Were the CHL kids and the USHL kids kind of keeping to their separate groups? The CHL kids probably all know each other, as well as the USHL kids probably all know each other, but there's no doubt been limited interaction between the two groups. Was Chase Deleo at the camp? He'd kind of be a bridge to both sides, given he played on the US National World Junior team. Couldn't really tell who was sticking to groups, everyone pretty much left the ice after practice other then the three I mentioned of the Group B players. Didn't stay till the end to watch all of the Group A players. De Leo was at camp. He has got some speed to burn.
  7. The intangible with Petan is that he is a real leader/character guy. I saw it when I went to the Kelowna/Portland game here in the playoffs. The whole team looked to Petan for guidance all the time on the ice, he was always directing traffic on the power-play and telling guys where to go. He will be in the game somewhere, if not with Winnipeg then someone else. Stu Barnes 2.0. At the end of their groups practice, Petan, Ehlers, and Lemieux were messing around with a puck, flipping it up into the air and trying to keep knocking it up in the air with their stick like a hacky sack. Petan was really the only one who could do it with any consistency. Good hand eye coordination. He already seems well liked by the other prospects.
  8. We will see on Petan. They were really just doing skating, passing and shooting drills, not even forwards against D today. There is no doubt Petan has a ton of skill and amazing hands. His challenge will be his size, and I think we will only get to see how he handles that once you get into game action. With today's NHL, where size doesn't seem to be the same issue that it once was, he is more likely to make an impact than even 5 years ago.
  9. You are right. With his bonus he is over. Salary is under.
  10. Petan was wearing what looked to be a camera strapped to his chest. Wonder if they will post footage later.
  11. Stopped by the Jets development camp today and wow is Petan ever fun to watch. Curious to see what he will be able to do against NHL calibre talent.
  12. To me reigning in means he held them back, probably in hopes of not tiring them more on a short week.

  14. They must have high hopes for Lemieux giving him over $1M on his entry level. Scheifele - 833k Lowry - 925k Trouba - 833K Copp - 925K Petan - 693K Ehlers - 925K Morrrissey - 925K Schefiele and Trouba signed a few years ago now so that could simply be inflation. But he is making more then Ehlers and Morrissey. Same draft year as Ehlers. I might have heard one of the reasons Buffalo was willing to part with him is that they were having problems signing him.
  15. Nobody is really watching the scoreboard during timeouts and commercials If I'm paying for advertising, I want it on when the majority of 30,000 pairs of eyes are on the scoreboard. Unfortunately, it is a reality of todays economics of sports.
  16. As mentioned above, pending means your pick is in but the result of the game hasn't been put in yet.
  17. Will O'Neill, formerly of the Ice Caps, has signed with Pittsburgh.
  18. Not sure what that means. You would prefer they were "entrenched" in a communist system? It doesn't matter what system you are entrenched in if your people don't want to pay income taxes, and the government can't be bothered to collect them, or enforce income tax laws. It also doesn't matter what system you are in when your people decide they want everything for nothing, and think they are entitled to it. You are pretty much screwed at that point. Have a look at the Roman Empire at its peak. Why did it fail? Because everyone stopped working for a living, and just had a big party, and they became so soft that they were easy prey for other warring nations that just tore the entire empire apart. If you want some insight into the Greek mind, just look at how other countries have planned for and built infrastructure for the Olympics. They always build with a future plan to use the infrastructure, or move it somewhere else. They have a plan. Greece didn't have a plan for their 2004 Olypmics. They just built these massive stadiums with hundreds of millions of borrowed euros, and now they are all just rotting, unused. Typical Greek planning. That's why that country is so screwed. They have become the welfare case of Europe. I'm too lazy to go looking for the link - but the problem of unused and rotting Olympics infrastructure isn't unique to Greece. Nor is it unique to the Olympics. See the World Cup in Brazil.
  19. Former Jet James Wright has signed a one year deal with the Islanders after spending some time in the KHL.
  20. It has since come out that the Bombers offered Sears an extension at the end of last season but he wanted to look at NFL options. When those didn't pan out he came back to the club but money had already been used on other contracts and we could no longer sign him. Loved Sears play on the field. Business is business. He will be good for Hamilton.
  21. The day the Jets run this team based on perceived fan reaction is the day we might as well stop trying.
  22. It really depends if the cap continues to stay relatively the same or starts to rise again. This is of course highly dependant on the Canadian dollar. If the cap is up to $80M in year 3, $85M+ in year 4/5 it really isn't that bad of a contract. If the cap stays below $80M over the next 5 years, they may regret it when some of their younger players start coming up.
  23. Petan will be better served getting top 6 minutes on the Moose then playing 4th line on the Jets. 4th line will likely be a combination of Copp & Thorburn with Halischuk / Peluso / some other players yet to be signed all rotating in.
