For me, the question always comes back to that Thorburn contract. Why so high and so long. A 4th line of Thorburn, Peluso, and Slater is not going to cut it. As to the playoffs, if we were to make it this year, even if we had a better 4th line, I don't think we are making it out of the first round. Even if we are one and done in the playoffs, we just need to start getting that playoff experience to the top half of the lineup. We basically need better 3rd line players to push the current 3rd line down. And those aren't easy to just pickup. It would be nice next year if Ehlers were to make the team pushing someone like Lowry down to the 4th. A 4th line of Slater and Lowry and one of Peluso / Thorburn or maybe Klingburg if he is ready would be more palatable. You could be right on the draft picks, but that is still a left over problem from Atlanta. I think this is going to start changing drastically over the next year or two as the Jets draft picks begin to mature. I thought Chiarot looked good out there last night, especially it being his 2nd NHL game of his career. (He was at Atlanta draft pick). Will be nice when these guys can start pushing out the Clitsome's and Pardy's, who were basically waiver wire pickups to strengthen the depth until we can fill it with our own guys. On the other hand, look how far we've come since year 1 when GST was our third line!

They also brought up and interesting point on TSN this morning in regards to ice time. Is the top line getting more ice time due to the lack of ice time to the 4th, or are they simply giving those minutes to the 2nd and 3rd line. Quickly looked at the stats this morning, and here is the ice time for the forwards for both Edmonton and Winnipeg: 4 T. Hall L 20:57 93 Nugent-Hopkins C 20:49 68 T. Pitlick R 18:07 16 T. Purcell R 16:48 57 D. Perron L 16:43 10 N. Yakupov R 15:42 14 J. Eberle R 15:35 27 B. Gordon C 14:56 29 L. Draisaitl C 14:55 13 S. Pinizzotto R 9:21 26 M. Arcobello C 9:13 20 L. Gazdic L 7:28 9 E. Kane L 20:19 33 D. Byfuglien R 20:03 26 B. Wheeler R 19:49 18 B. Little C 18:37 16 A. Ladd L 18:31 85 M. Perreault C 18:30 55 M. Scheifele C 16:35 67 M. Frolik R 15:58 17 A. Lowry L 15:50 19 J. Slater C 5:48 14 A. Peluso R 4:27 22 C. Thorburn R 4:24 There is no single forward on the Jets who had substantially more ice time than anyone on Edmonton. In fact Taylor Hall had more ice time then any forward on the Jets or Edmonton. So if your top line guys can play 20 minutes a game on a night in / night out basis regardless of what the 4th line gets, is it that much of a stretch for your 2nd and 3rd line guys to pick up a few more minutes? Shouldn’t those guys be able to handle a similar work load. Thought it was an interesting point to consider. Also found it interesting that Byfuglien had so much ice time. I usually assume his minutes are higher due to power play time, but there was only one penalty in this game to the Jets, and Buff didn't play on the PK. Also good to see the Jets pull that one out late. The Jets of old would have never come back to win that one.

He normally plays LW, so that would put him behind Ladd and Kane on the depth chart. Would have to think that if he makes the team he would start off the year on the third line. That would probably put him with Lowry / Perreault at C and Byfuglien or Frolik on the other side. Of course a lot can happen to a team between now and next season.

What is the deal with the Grey Cup ticket pricing
Rich replied to Mike's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
The group that I have season tickets with went through this argument as well. We ended up buying because it would be horrible if the Bombes were in the game and we didn't have our seats. If the Bombers don't make it and we decide to not to go and try to sell, we'll split whatever seats we can sell as we are a group of 3. Hate to say this, but if the Bombers aren't in the Grey Cup next year, best case scenario is that SK get in to up demand for tickets. -

I enjoy the show as well, but it does seem to become formulaic in that they settle in somewhere, bad guys come, they fight, they move on and repeat. Their story telling is well done and bring you in every week to see what will happen to the characters. Started seeing commercials for AMC's new show Better Call Saul, which is a spinoff of Breaking Bad. Looking forward to that show.

I didn't read the comics. But I love the series. Though I think the killing of major characters is sometimes done for shock value more than their claim of "the story led us there".I'm not even comparing it to the comics (which full warning, I do love). It's only drama for drama's sake and it makes me want to gouge my eyes out. But people, you included, obviously still love it Soooo... That's great for amc. Having never read the comics, I'm curious how closely the show follows them? Do they deviate from the primary story much? If you've read the comics, are you not really surprised by what happens in the show?

Michael Sam Possibly Playing for Als Next Season

No this is flat out 100% wrong. Racism has nothing to do with oppression. Any kind of ism has nothing to do with oppression. Your opinion, and you're welcome to it, but its wrong. You'e confusing racism with being ignorant. Racism is about power. Its about controlling who access resources, and deciding who's restricted from it. Racism: the belief that all members of each race possess characteristics or abilities specific to that race, especially so as to distinguish it as inferior or superior to another race or races. Opression: Oppression is the exercise of authority or power in a burdensome, cruel, or unjust manner. It can also be defined as an act or instance of oppressing, the state of being oppressed, and the feeling of being heavily burdened, mentally or physically, by troubles, adverse conditions or people, and anxiety. -
5 goals and 13 points in 3 games. Congrats Nikolaj!

If you want to be part of the elite few who actually get paid to play sports, then yes. If you aren't equipped to deal with it, there are hundreds if not thousands who would love to take your place.

It is fair to say that everyone reacts differently to different situations, but Banks is hardly a kid. He is 26 years old, who was a star at every level he has played in prior to the NFL, including, high school, junior college, and 2 years at Kansas State. Prior to the CFL, he played 3 years in the NFL and accumulated 11 receptions, 35 receiving yards, 3,793 return yards, and 2 touchdowns. While mostly a ST player in the NFL, he has had plenty of time and experience in high pressure games and situations through his college and pro career.

Sorry but none of this makes any sense. They played Eastern teams 8 times and Western teams 10 times, just like every other team in the league. Furthermore their 9-9 record would have made the playoffs in the West (they swept BC so would have the tiebreaker). As for the last statement, well, I don't really know what that means. "It doesn't make them a good team, it makes them good enough"? OK. I say a team that finishes .500 or better and wins a playoff game while also having a top 3 defence and an all-Canadian OL, is a pretty good team. But I guess your definition differs from mine. 18 games in a season. 5 teams in the West, you play each of those teams 2 times, so that takes up 10 games. That leaves 8 games to be split between the 3 other teams in the East, meaning you play two of those teams 3 times. Just so happens that the two teams they played 3 games against is Toronto (which they lost once and won twice) and Ottawa which they won all 3 games against. So they got 3 games against an expansion team, while everyone in the West got two. That could easily account for their extra win and playoff presence right there. (So poor wording in they played the Eastern teams more often, they got to play Ottawa more often then most teams) 6 of their 9 wins came against Eastern teams, which means 6 of their losses came from Western teams. If they were in the West, it stands to reason that they would play those teams more and a very good chance of losing more since the competition is that much higher. Luck of the draw, but it could very well be that they played Edmonton and / or Calgary 3 times instead of Ottawa. I could also mention one of their Western wins was against a SK team without their starting QB (but this one is probably splitting hairs as those things tend to even out in a season). As for my other statement, in a 9 team league were only 3 teams don’t make the playoffs, if you just squeak into the playoffs with .500 record, it means you are just good enough to make it in. Sure they have pieces and lots can happen in an off season, but we are talking about this year, and this year they were just good enough …. Just good enough to make it into the playoffs. In their first playoff game, they got lucky in playing a BC team in a cross over where no team has ever won and with whom the time difference would play the most havoc. Then they lost to Hamilton.

Except it wasn't his error that made it get called back. If it was him who had screwed up, I could *almost* see it. One minute the hero, the next you wear the horns .. but that isn't what happened. He should have been even more motivated to go out and make another play.

Montreal is a playoff team right now because they play in the East. Even with playing the weaker Easter teams more then the Western teams this year, their record wouldn't have earned them a spot if they were in the West. I have no reason to believe they won't make the playoffs next year either, but that doesn't necessarily make them a good team, it just makes them good enough.

A lot of the anger directed to "Stef" was an extension of the anger at Mike Kelly. Now, after the fact without the emotional angst, people can separate the two.

Eric Comrie Nic Petan Josh Morrissey More players invited to the Canadian camp then any other NHL team. Should be a fun tournament to watch.

The 2014 CFL Season is now officially in the books. And while we as Bombers fans have to say the same thing we’ve been saying for the last 23 years, “Maybe Next Year…”, I did want to take a moment and thank everyone who comes to this site. Whether you visit monthly, weekly, daily, hourly, or every minute, whether you post regularly, sporadically, or just lurk, you guys are the reason this site is here and continues to thrive. In only our second season of existence, the continued growth of this site has been overwhelming to say the least. I’m happy to announce that we’ve already renewed the MBB season tickets for next year and they will once again be donated to the Big Brothers / Big Sisters of Winnipeg. I think it is great that the support of this site not only pays for the expenses incurred in running it, but we are able to share the game day experience with kids who wouldn’t otherwise be fortunate enough to experience it live. And while we are always open to suggestions on how the site is run and things we can do better or add to the site, I’d like to open up this thread for comments in two areas: Any suggestions or ideas on contests or content that you would like to see added to the site for next season. With the Grey Cup being held in Winnipeg next year, we are thinking about holding an MBB event during Grey Cup week. So far, a one day touch football tournament has been suggested. Looking for thoughts / feedback on this or any other ideas you may have on what we can do or what you would like to see during Grey Cup next year.

Apparently the sixth time the cup has been broken/damaged.

Michael Sam Possibly Playing for Als Next Season
Rich replied to TrueBlue's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
Even if they report themselves as straight, they are still gay.... The question is whether or not the same percentage would be applied to professional sports, and why wouldn’t it be? You could argue that it is a small sample size compared to the general population and the stats would be skewed somewhat, but by that rationale, the percentage could just as easily be larger as it would be smaller. Seems people want to believe that the percentage would be smaller because professional athletes should be more “manly”. Its more like, professional team sports -- especially football, hockey, baseball, etc -- are life long pursuits. You start when you can basically walk -- those that make it to the bigs are those whose talent matches their ability to endure 20 years of training, 20 years of locker rooms, 20 years of not so subtle homophobia. Its only logical that many gays -- especially until the last 10 years or so -- would gravitate towards non-team endeavours where their sex life would never come up. Its why many gay men went into diving, rowing, fencing, even martial arts. This I can accept as a plausible explanation. It is also just a theory. We will never really know what the true numbers are. -
