  1. Can't see them trading him, they are in compete now mode. Unless we are totally out of the playoffs come the trade deadline, he means more to this team now for a playoff push then future prospects. With where this team is at, keep him for the year and let him walk if he can't be re-signed.
  2. Lets not bump threads from 2 years ago. It is confusing to people until they see posting dates and generally bad forum etiquette Plenty of other threads these things can be discussed.
  3. Noose tightens, deflect to Clinton
  4. As a "Season Ticket Holder For Life", we were invited to attend a Chalk Talk session with Mike O'Shea last night (anyone else here go?). He went over how the coaches prepare for a game, went through the post game film and teaching they would do with players, went through examples of the post game film and plays they would review, all with the most recent Ottawa game. For preparation against Calgary, he also gave some examples of formations and plays Calgary would do in other games, then show film from practice on how they prepare and practice for those things. Didn't hide from any questions from the crowd, was pretty open in his answers. Went out of his way to talk and engage the kids in the audience. Really got the feeling that once he starts talking about football, he could go on and on for hours. Was a fun time, and as a fan of the game who has never played at an organized level, great to see some of the behind the scenes stuff that goes on. Would be very illuminating to sit on these sessions regularly to get a better appreciation of the finer points of the game. Thanks to the Bombers, Wade Miller, and Coach O'Shea for setting this up, was a fun night. Edit: Moved my post over here since JCon started a thread for it.

  6. Happy Birthday Bob!
  7. Wikipedia says Osborne Stadium had a capacity of 7,800. Doesn't look like it would even be that high with those stands. Up close and intimate to watch a game though.

  9. You got it. As long as picks are listed here or PMd to me before game start, I will accept them.

  15. Tanev's deal is 1 year @ $1.15M. Will be a UFA next year.
  16. They try to do much during the game. So tired of interviews starting between plays then continuing on during a play. I tune in for the football game, not the other stuff. Show me the damn game. Also the stupid camera angles or sideline shots are too long between plays as well. I want to see how the teams are lining up prior to the snap. Keep it simple and do the simple stuff well and people will be happy. Try to do too much and do a bad job at it, and they will piss people off.

  18. Why is everything you disagree with often labelled as silly. Present your argument and let people decide what is silly and not Are you suggesting a corporation who wants to build a 40 story tower is going to support what is in the best interest of Winnipeg traffic or the best interest of their investment? As for the solution, I gave you one I’d support that wouldn’t affect traffic and still have the ability to open it up. Also, from over 25 years of driving experience in this city, I have no confidence the city planners can “fix” traffic as simply as you imply it to be. It is great to say fixing traffic isn’t like curing cancer or going to Mars, but you still didn’t offer a solution. Also, the last time it was opened up was in the 70s. How much has population density increased in 40 years and how many more cars per home do we have now as compared to then?
  19. My issue with opening up Portage & Main is that it really can't be compared to other intersections in most major downtown cities. Most intersections are true 4 way intersections where the majority of traffic flows straight in all directions and you have some cars turning left and right that can be handled with turning lanes on busy streets to minimize the impact on the majority of the car flow as those turning cars wait for pedestrians to cross. When Portage hits Main Street the majority of the traffic flow is turning either left or right onto Main with a smaller percent of traffic going straight on Portage Avenue East. It is the opposite. So having the majority of your car flow having to wait for pedestrians to cross will absolutely have a huge impact up Portage and probably Main if they make the green light longer to compensate for pedestrians. Does anyone really think opening up Portage & Main will revitalize the downtown? I worked downtown for years and even if they made patios and whatever to try to make it compelling, I'm there to work most of the time during the day, so I'm not going to get a lot of use out of it. Seems to me, the motivation to open up Portage & Main is to revitalize it as a "meeting place" downtown for significant and special events. It is Winnipeg's most iconic intersection and people want it to be open to gather for special events. Take down the permanent barricades, replace them with something that can be easily removed. Keep the barricades up for rush hour and most days. Take them down when you want to use the intersection as a "meeting place" for whatever event you want people to gather for. I don't work downtown anymore, nor do I need to go through it for my daily commute, so this doesn't really affect me one way or the other. But I don't think the benefits of this outweigh what is already a horrible rush hour bottle neck.
  20. The arbitration system in the NHL is designed to be combative on purpose as motivation to have teams and players settle outside of it. And for the most part it is successful in achieving that, as very few players actually get to arbitration despite filing for it. Each side gets 90 minutes to make their case in front of the arbitrator. The Jets will have to rip apart Trouba's game and highlight all of his deficiencies and list all the reasons on why they think he is only worth $4M and not the $7M. Trouba gets to sit there and listen to all that. Teams want to avoid this as it certainly can sour the relationship with a player.
  21. One thing to keep in mind with those numbers, those are arbitration numbers, not a long term deal. So Trouba is asking for $7M per year for 1 or 2 RFA years. That is vastly different then wanting $7M over a 6 - 8 year deal.
