For those who can't read behind the pay wall, Doug points out that the coaching page for Richie Hall and Marty Costello now point to "Page Not Found" errors, while all other links for coaches are working, wondering if this implies the two coaches have been let go. https://www.bluebombers.com/richie-hall/ He then goes on to suggest that O'Shea should be the next Defensive Coordinator even though he has never been a DC before....

Matt Lauer/Greg Zaun - when will this end??
Rich replied to kelownabomberfan's topic in General Discussion
Just my 2 cents on this. The warning was to everyone when with the thread I linked to when I mentioned the posts being deleted. As to people giving as good as they are getting, for the most part we have let that go, but there is a trend happening on the board of people seeing this sort of thing in one place and taking it and proliferating it everywhere to the point where it was happening in almost every thread whether people wanted to give and get or not. So, unfortunately, there will be a bit of a correction for a time where we are going to be more strict until people can get back into a pattern of discussing the topic at hand without the cheap shots and insults that are in no way needed to have a discussion. It has also been my experience based on feedback that when a discussion has degenerated into two people "giving and getting", the only people who really care to read all that noise is the two people involved. For everyone else it is noise and turns them away from the discussion. So if it is really that important to people to "give and get", and feel like an internet hero to out insult someone, take it to PMs. -

I'm not sure if the winter has suddenly got a bunch of people in a pissy mood, but there is way too much caddy / sarcastic remarks and insults going back and forth between a number of posters over the last little while. As a rule, we really don't like over moderating this place and take a wait and see approach on a lot of the "on the line" questionable posts. Unfortunately this has led to things sliding too far in the wrong direction, and seems to be snowballing. It is popping up in more threads than not, and not the kind of discussion we want to be the norm here. Moderators are going to be taking a harder line on this kind of behaviour over the next little while. You will get a warning or PM on these questionable posts. Not going to immediately lead to a banning or suspension unless it become a recurring pattern. So if you get a warning, take a moment to consider what you are posting that led to the warning.

It is a combination of a bunch of things, all of which feed and drive each other. With Myers / Kulikov as your 3rd paring D, you have an overall higher quality of defense out there and can spread the minutes around more, keeping players fresh. All the Jets "young" prospects aren't so young anymore and have a couple of NHL seasons under their belt. They are also way better offensively. Compared to last year, the Jets are scoring on average .5 extra goal per game (3.5 vs 3.0) and letting in .5 goals less (2.6 vs 3.1). Some of that is for sure attributed to better goaltending and better defensive play, but quite honestly a lot of that is the Jets coming out and scoring early. Last year we were trailing in a bunch of games which forces you to open it up. This year, I'm pretty sure they've played with the lead for way more minutes vs. trying to score and force it. But even when behind, they no longer panic and try to force it like they would last year. They have quietly built up a confidence and belief, that even when trailing, they play their game and believe they will score. This team has never had that since they've returned. Always been fragile, get them down a goal or two and they would fold like a cheap tent. That attitude is now gone.

I guess this solves the NHL problem of Ovechkin saying he was going to play regardless of if the NHL was going or not. -

Forbes has released its annual valuation of NHL teams. https://www.forbes.com/sites/mikeozanian/2017/12/05/the-nhls-most-valuable-teams-4/#3ca2687417c7 https://www.forbes.com/nhl-valuations/list/#tab:overall Jets come in at #26 with an estimated value of $375M. Estimated revenue of $119M and $10M in operating income. Funny how Vegas paid $500M for their franchise, yet half the teams in the league are valued at less than that.

Chipman did talk about the naming a bit at the heritage classic. https://www.winnipegfreepress.com/sports/hockey/jets/chipman-knew-no-other-name-but-jets-would-do-403096756.html He does say there were people in the organization who felt strongly about the Moose brand. They considered the Falcons and Warriors as they have a hockey history in Winnipeg. He confirms they came up with the Bear image, but says it was more of just an exercise of picking a name off the board then seriously being considered. The Jets was always a strong contender, but it was when they got the permission from the Royal Canadian Air Force and the Department of National Defence to model the logo off of the ones on the RCAF planes that cemented the decision. Also says the fact that the fans really wanted the Jets name, played a large role as well.

So Hervey is GM. Wally is staying on as Head Coach and Vice President of the organization. Head Coach reports to GM, GM reports to Vice President. Unique dynamic.
