  1. Seems to me a lot of the buzz about looking at who a player is playing with is coming from the Toronto media. When have you ever heard an argument like this before for rookie of the year? Truth is, unless the stats they put up are an absolute blowout, Toronto media will find any excuse to pump up / vote for Matthews over Laine.
  2. Vegas gets the same odds in the lottery as the 3rd worst team for the first round. Meaning they could draft anywhere from 1 - 6. They will select 3rd in each subsequent round.
  3. He did say it was in the same universe as Alien. By not connected maybe he meant that the ship that they find in Prometheus isn't the same ship we see in Alien. So not directly connected.
  4. It isn't at all clear unless you are a huge fan. I've actually never seen any of the original Alien movies in their entirety. Watched Prometheus when it first came out on Netflix thinking it was just a sci fi movie and when I realized there might be an Alien connection, I did a bunch of reading on it after.
  5. Here is a comparison of what they call the "Space Jockey" from Alien 1 (top) to the Engineers from Prometheus. The Space Jockey of course would have been decayed and sitting there for however long before they found it.
  6. The humanoids from Prometheus are called "Engineers". Unclear at this point if that refers to them creating humans, the Aliens, or both. Apparently in one of the first Alien movies, there was a scene that had one of the humanoids in full armour in their spaceship "driving chair" that was never addressed. Prometheus was supposed to start filling that hole. The current plan I think is to have two more movies that bridge to Alien. Some theories out there is that the Engineers race was split into factions. Some of which colonised planets and were the "science" type guys. Some of the theories for Prometheus is that planet it place on was a military base for the Engineers and the Alien was created as an experiment that had gone horribly wrong. So the humanoid from Prometheus would have been from the military branch of the engineers. I think the basic premise of Prometheus is the Engineers created us along time ago, and now the Engineers (maybe a different faction) were going to go back to kill us. Maybe the Alien was created to get rid of all the planets an opposing faction seeded. Tough to say how much the next two movies will clear up what it all means.
  7. Seems to me we already had this thread, and can use this one if people have more to add.
  8. This is the first year that Thorburn has been a healthy scratch as often as he has made his way into the lineup. Just because there was interest in prior years, doesn't mean there is interest this year. The best we could get for Stafford, who can play his way up the lineup if needed, was a conditional 6th round pick or a 7 round draft. What do you think Thorburn's value on the market even is this year? You really think Chevy held onto Thorburn if there was interest out there? And you honestly think that means Chevy was lying in prior years if there wasn't? Lots of things this organisation can be criticised for. Failing to trade a part time 4th line forward isn't one of them.
  9. No clue if that is their official twitter account, but it looks like it is run by someone who is the same age as the CHL players. The funny thing is that the CHLPA website links to this twitter account https://twitter.com/thechlpa
  10. An hour to go until the trade deadline. Been a boring day so far.
  11. Dylan Mcllrath is from Winnipeg.
  12. I don't think we get better players. The market will adjust and the proven free agents will get their contract bid up the next time free agency hits. The money is most likely to get spread around to other established starters in free agency, and not go to a single high profile player from down south. It isn't like you going to take the 100k you save on a Canadian starter and give it to a high profile American to convince them to come up North. It still won't give them NFL money. The reason they come here is to either get back / to the NFL or continue to get paid to play football.
  13. Unless they change the cap (which is a very unlikely result of changing the ratio rules), changing the ratio would not make running a CFL team less expensive. The distribution of who gets what money would simply change on the team.
  14. This is for the whole league? Not a single team? 60 teams in the CHL. $1.6M in profit, means each team makes $27k?
  15. The roster bonus is for the players. Even if they were likely going to cut him, if there was no roster bonus, Edmonton could hang on to him at least through training camp, then make a decision based on what they have in camp. The roster bonus forces the team to decide before the season starts to commit to a player. And if they cut him, then there is still time to catch on with another team. One could argue that it would be better for the player if they negotiated the roster bonus to be paid before free agency.
