First sexual assault by Syrian refugee in Canada
Rich replied to kelownabomberfan's topic in General Discussion
Fair enough. I have no problem with discussing the news item, and I can't speak for other forums, but I think if your thread title had even said Sexual Assault from Syrian Refugee, you wouldn't have received the same reaction as you did here. -
First sexual assault by Syrian refugee in Canada
Rich replied to kelownabomberfan's topic in General Discussion
Is the point of the title of this thread for Canada to adopt the US ban on Syrian refugees? This is what everyone is dancing around here, and why people have posted the questions to you they have. The wording of this thread title is ... this is the first, implying there will be more. If there will be more, well how do we stop it, etc, tc. The next question is why do we not post about every sexual assault that happens in this country, why is this one singled out? Is it a horrendous crime? Yes. Should people like this be allowed in the country? No. So, are you suggesting all Syrian's shouldn't be allowed in Canada because we now have a "first" Syrian refugee who did this? If tomorrow an immigrant from Ireland does this, are you going to post a thread saying "First Sexual Assault by an Irish Immigrant in Canada"? Probably not. So yes, this is a tragedy and shouldn't happen. Lock the guy up and / or throw him out of the country. The title you chose frames it in a certain light, and it makes people question the motivation of the thread. -

Moved a bunch of posts from here to the goalies thread so we can have circular arguments over there.
-
Expansion draft is June 18 - 20. Those goalies don't become free agents till July 1. So how exactly do we sign them to expose them for expansion?
-
I'm not in favour of privatization of Hydro. For privatization to work, I believe there has to be competition, otherwise you have a private monopoly. Who would Hydro compete with to provide power to Manitobans?
-
I think its all a political game on this point. the government will force Hydro down this path, with all the budget and job cuts, have all the bad press while they mull over the 10% hikes, so they can make sure they blame it all on the NDP, and everyone understands what happened at Hydro before they step in with some kind of money injection.

There isn't going to be an exemption for Myers.

Fluery and Bishop have NMC / NTC so it is very unlikely they would agree to come to a non playoff team. Plus Bishop is a UFA after this year, so why trade for him even if you could? Halak has one year after this year with a 4.5M cap hit. He might be an interesting veteran goalie to have behind Hellebuyck, but I'm not sure I'd give up a whole lot for him prior to the expansion draft. Vegas has to draft at least 3 goalies from the expansion draft, and pickings out there will be slim.

Is there any other league that hands the championship trophy to the owner first?

It's up and running for anything.

I know people don't always see the sticky posts. I've put in the new chat. There still should be an upgrade coming to it down the road, but what is in there now seems pretty good. More info here.
-
The new chat is up and running. It is called Babble and you can find the link to it up on the site header. With CFL Free Agency less than 10 days away, it will be an opportunity to try it out with a larger number of people in the room at the same time. The old chat is still around for now if anything goes wrong during free agency. It looks an awful lot like the old chat when you get in, but it is quite different under the hood. The primary difference being is I now host it, and although I have been assured it should handle the number of people we put in there, you just never really know until you try. Some other commands / new features you will see in there: Ignore -> I think this will probably be the most popular new feature, as it has been requested quite a bit .. but you can now put people on ignore in chat. This is a different list then the ignore list in the forum, so you need to put people on ignore in chat separately. Just click someones picture on the right hand side and pick ignore Editing -> If you click on your own posts you can now edit them (click on your name beside the post you want to edit). A little pencil will show up beside it to indicate you've edited it. Quotes -> Click on someone else's chat and you can quote it to respond to it just like you can when posting. Whispers -> You can have private conversations with other people. If you whisper someone their name will show up in the top bar of the chat box and you can click back and forth between your private conversations and main chat. Pictures -> There is little downarrow on the toolbar on top of the text area where you type your chat. You can pick the picture button here. Pictures will be hidden in a "spoiler" type wrapper so people can't spam chat with them. People need to click to open them. You can also use the buttons here to paste links and use quote boxes. For people who prefer typing to clicking icons, here are some text based commands. All text based commands start with a /. The / indicates to the chat program that it is a command and not text for chat /rules -> Will display the rules of the chat. This will display to you only, not everyone in the chat. Usage: /rules /me -> Shows an action or an emote in chat. Usage: /me is taking a break to get a beer /stats -> Displays the stats for the rooms. Usage: /stats /ignore -> Allows you to ignore another member. Usage: /ignore <Member Name> /unignore -> Allows you to remove a member from your ignore list. Usage: /uningnore <Member Name> /quote -> Will display text you type in a quote box, just like you can when posting. Usage: /quote This text will be in quotes. /img -> Will display an image in a wrapper. Usage: /img <URL to image> There are two buttons on the far right on the blue bar of the chat window: Settings -> Allows you to decide what events you see notifications for. (People entering / leaving the room, etc) You can decide how many new chat messages are required for your browser to notify you, and you can decide if new messages show up at the bottom of chat or top of chat (Reverse Order or Message Order) Open in Pop Out -> Will allow you to "pop out" the chat into its own window.

Trouba wants out (Trouba has signed)
Rich replied to FrostyWinnipeg's topic in Winnipeg Jets Discussion
This should be the direct link to the podcast. http://www.podtrac.com/pts/redirect.mp3/pmd.fan590.com/podcasts/hockeycentral/hc_20170203_125628--Hockey-Central-@-Noon---February-3---Friday.mp3 -
There is a big difference If it is a career ending thing you get insurance to pay the salary and no cap hit with LTIR. Buyout means money out of pocket and a cap hit over a number of seasons. It isn't even a decision if it is a career ending injury. You don't buy him out As for protecting him, if what you are reading into this is right (not yet convinced it is), then this may come into play. And if he isn't exempt and his career is done, then of course you don't protect him.

Around The League Off Season Discussion
Rich replied to Bomber_fanaddict's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
And you get the bonus of another team committing some of their available FA money to a player you no longer have interest in. -
The ballpark will be an interesting discussion point, especially when you look at the deals and tax breaks that the Jets and Bombers get. MTS Centre is assessed as recreational space and not commercial land. Bombers pay no business or property tax. I would think the Bomber situation is different as they are a not for profit organisation and IGF is a shared use facility with U of M which has its own property tax rules. True North and The Goldeyes are privately owned..

Why is having a discussion me not wanting to listen?
