  1. I'm gonna lock it. A new one can be started if desired.
  2. https://www.capfriendly.com/players/brendan-lemieux He was signed July 3, 2015. His contract slid last year because he went down to junior. This year he is with the Moose, so this will be the 1st year of his ELC.
  3. Look here for Scheifele: https://www.capfriendly.com/players/mark-scheifele At the bottom, Contract History section (to see his first contract). all ELC's are 3 years, but Scheif has 5 years on that ELC, the first 2 have ENTRY-LEVEL-SLIDE under NHL salary. It also shows his signed date as Oct 5, 2011 but the contract didn't start counting till 2013. Adam Lowry: https://www.capfriendly.com/players/adam-lowry He signed April 16, 2013. The 9 games with the Ice Caps you see in that year were because of an amateur tryout he signed http://www.stjohnsicecaps.com/article/icecaps-sign-adam-lowry-to-ato/ which he was able to spin into a pro contract Lowry was drafted same year as Sheif. So why would they wait on Lowry ? My guess is Lowry was a 3rd round draft pick and they were not sure he would really develop into an NHL player. Him signing the ATO with the Ice Caps would support that they wanted to see his development in Junior and up close before committing a contract to him. Josh Morrissey: https://www.capfriendly.com/players/joshua-morrissey Signed Oct 9, 2013. Had two years of slides. His contract started counting in 2015. I won't pretend I'm an NHL GM and know all the reasons they pick to choose when to sign a player and when not to. But 1st round draft picks from Juniors are usually signed pretty early (NCAA picks can't sign until they come to the AHL or NHL because of NCAA rules), with little risk as the contract will slide until they play in the A or make the team. You would hope as a 1st round pick, the player is at least a lock to have a spot on the Minor league team at some point. I actually found it more strange that Stanley, being a first round pick, was signed after his first training camp. But assuming he is going to play for the Moose once he is done playing in Junior, there really is no difference to him signing now or later other then getting some bonus / signing cash in his pocket.

If we took this argument on all topics, there would be no discussion on this board. We don't impact personnel decisions on the football side of things, yet it is widely talked about.
  5. A player can't play games in the NHL or AHL unless they are signed. How would you know how much to pay them? This is where the 10 game rule comes in to play. As long as they play less then 10 games in a season, then go back to Juniors, the contract still slides. Lets a team look at a player for a bit before deciding if they are ready. This for sure happened with Scheifele. Can't recall Lowry Are you looking at press releases when Scheif and Lowry signed or first contract years on the salary sites? Because the "slide" will make it look like they signed later then they did There is really no difference in Stanley signing now or in a year from now other then he is now a signed asset Edit: Deleted a whole bunch of crap in this thread (must have missed a few pages when I read this morning). Some relevant info was intertwined within all the drunken hate and insults for the Christmas season and I wasn't going to edit through it all, so the 38 post pissing match was deleted....
  6. How does one explain the other? 18 and 19 year old players playing in juniors have their contracts slide until they start playing in the AHL or NHL. Meaning Stanley will still be on a 3 year ELC after this year. No year of his signed contract will be used up. It is just asset management to get him under contract. Doesn't mean he will be in the pros any time soon.
  7. That's some pretty decent company to be in.

  12. Sure, but I would say the thread should be renamed to spoilers at that point... I was thinking more on the rumours to the lead up.
  13. Just a reminder ... the "eye" button in the toolbar can be used to post text as a spoiler which will give people the option to open it and look or not.
  14. Apparently he had a heart attack while playing hockey with his son.
  15. I watched season 1 but couldn't get into season 2 at all. I'm curious how Netflix attributes a $200M loss to a specific series when all of their earnings are subscription based for their entire catalogue and not ad revenue or box office revenue for a specific franchise.
  16. He wants the players to prove they can be defensively responsible before giving them more ice time. Putting Connor on one of the top two lines means he has to shelter that whole line. It is really about line matchups against other teams. NHL isn't just about offence. These guys need to learn the defensive side of the NHL before they are going to get bigger minutes, and you ease them into that until they learn and prove they can do it
  17. Why do you have to imagine yourself naked to do this?

I believe he is locked up through next season (2017/2018). Extension next off season?
  19. Rich replied to Ducky's topic in Winnipeg Jets Discussion
True enough ... had to look him up and saw that he only played 2 seasons. Didn't realize he was only 24 and still playing!

This is always a fun site to peruse for some "hindsight" http://www.nhltradetracker.com/user/trade_list_by_team/Atlanta_Thrashers/1 Their trade for Tkachuk in 2007 for their playoff push which resulted in them being swept by the Rangers in a first round exit was probably one of the worst. They gave up all of this for Tkachuk in a trade deadline deal: Now granted most of those draft picks didn't turn into much, but that is a lot of asset mismanagement when you aren't even close to being a contender. Desperate for a playoff push to generate excitement for the team in Atlanta. Then there was when they traded their superstar Kovalchuk. Gave up: Received: Traded Kovalchuk in his prime (27 at the time) for Patrice Cormier, Johnny Oduya and a first rounder and trading DOWN with your 2nd rounder. Kevin Hayes and Justin Holl didn't amount to much, but they weren't drafted by Atlanta, they were drafted by Chicago. Those picks were part of the Byfuglien deal, so maybe not quite so bad as it first looks.
  21. They did explicitly ask permission and signed an extensive contract on how the logo can and can't be used. It isn't the exact logo but it is certainly inspired from and had they not signed the contract could have had legal issues.

Have to wonder if they Jets would have even drafted Kane, or would his attitude have come through in the interviews. Evander was a 4th overall pick. Some notable players to be drafted after him, Brayden Shenn (5), Oliver Ekman-Larsson (6), Nazem Kadri (7).

Comeau, who was the Jets head scout until last year was also a scout with Atlanta, but I believe they changed a lot of the scouts under him and increased their numbers as well. This was an article from 2014, but it shows how the Jets have invested heavily into their scouting. It wasn't just lip service that they were going to be a draft and develop team. If you know you aren't going to be in the running for a lot of free agents and rely on the draft, you need to do better then average in drafting. http://www.canescountry.com/2014/4/21/5625796/nhl-scouting-staffs-carolina-is-light
