  1. It is a reference that comes from a video game (Starcraft) and has made its way into some pop culture. Basically the Zerg are insects that aren't all that powerful individually on their own, but attack in huge numbers to overwhelm opponents. So in this context, it basically just means being blitzed.
  2. Probably be a lot of tough picks for the first third of the season until the better teams start to emerge.
  3. I think the biggest thing (and you can't really control this), but he needs to have an open mind. If he watches a game with the mind set that the NFL is way better and the CFL sucks, he will only see its faults. (the same would be true if you thought the NFL sucks and watched an NFL game). The biggest thing I think is to get him hooked on the local team with games he can see live and players that are in his city. Everything this else would flow from there.
  4. Standings below. Picks need to be in by Wednesday @ 6:30PM
  5. I agree the Scheifele deal is fantastic. Just saying that the comparison to MacKinnon isn't an apples to apple comparison.
  6. Yeah but Scheifele is 23 and MacKinnon is 20 I love Scheifele, but MacKinnon has done at least as much or more than Scheifele at a much younger age.
  7. Considering they both carried a cap hit of around 800k and 900k with an actual salary of 900k and 1.2M with bonuses last year, I would say the minimum either would sign for is $1.5M.
  8. A tie! I never even thought about a game ending in a tie....
  9. Wow, Paredes really struggling this season.
  10. Jets now have about $10M.5 of cap space with Trouba, Armia and Lowry to sign (all RFAs). Of course if we also currently have 23 players under contract, so with the players who have to be sent down after those 3, it will probably be closer to $15M.
  11. Fantastic deal for the term. Was expecting the AAV to be in the $6.5M - $7M if he signed for 8. Now do they put the C on him?
  12. I can't listen to CJOB due to the sheer number of commercials they air. I've pretty much gone to TSN 1290 pre and post game with the exception of going back to CJOB after the game to listen to the coaches interview. Bob is and surely will be missed.
  13. Why would we want Bernier?

  15. It is a NMC. It is a limited or modified NMC, meaning he has to give a list of teams.
  16. I meant obligated under the expansion draft rules. But I think you are right, the NTC won't kick in until after the expansion draft.
  17. Good question. The expansion draft is June 21, 2017. two days before the entry draft. When does the NHL season officially "roll over". I wonder what contract year they will look at to decide how to apply the expansion draft rules.
  18. He wasn't in peoples lists (at least not mine) because he was going to be a UFA. So you could re-sign him after the expansion draft if you let this contract expire (with the risk of losing him in FA). A modified NTC means that if the Jets go to him and say they want to trade him, he has negotiated a number of teams he can exclude at that time. A full no trade clause would mean you just can't trade him unless he says okay.
  19. Love Perreault as a player, but I have mixed feelings on this deal. He is probably going to be a 3rd line player for us going forward (with the ability to move up with injuries). $3M for a 3rd line player is good value. $4M is getting pricey. CapFriendly is also reporting that there is a modified no trade clause. NTC makes sense in this negotiation as he is signing a year early before becoming a FA and he would want some protection against being an expansion pick. If true, we will have to protect him in the expansion draft. so time to redo your protected lists....
  20. Not at all saying Connor won't be able to play or make it in the NHL. But, smaller guys tend to need longer to develop before they make it.
  21. The problem I have with that comparison is you are comparing what Eichel and Larkin did at 18 in the NCAA to what Connor did at 19 in the NCAA. So while Connor was a freshman, he was a 19 year old freshman. Only a year difference, but that year can be huge at that age in terms of physical and mental growth. I wonder how much Eichel would have scored if he played in the NCAA last year. That would be a fairer comparison. They were all born the same year. Eichel in October, Connor in December, and Larkin in July. So for sure Connor is the youngest, but he is only 2 months younger than Eichel. I also worry about Connor's size in the NHL. Eichel - 6'2' 201 Larkin - 6'2' 190 Connor - 6'1' 177 Look at how Scheifele got pushed around in those early years when they kept sending him back down to Juniors and even in his first couple of years in the NHL. Connor needs to put on some muscle and learn how to adjust and play his game against much faster and bigger competition. They will probably keep him up for the 7 game "tryout" at the beginning of the season, but I'd like to see him with the Moose to develop and adjust to the pro game.
  22. I think the best thing for the Jets and Connor would be for him to start in the AHL. However there is a rumour going around HFBoards that the Jets made a "deal" with Connor when he signed that he would play his first year in the NHL. And of course he signed last year before we knew we were picking Laine, so if we did make such a deal, it would have been before we knew what the depth on the left hand side would look like. According to the rumour, this is a common occurrence with the NCAA kids as a way to entice them to jump to the NHL. Of course the NHL clubs don't want the prospects sitting in the NCAA for too long due to the limits on what contact / development they can have with the prospect and the loop hole that would let the prospect re-enter the draft if they aren't signed in time. They apparently also made the same deal with Copp when he signed. The deal of course would not be enforceable by a contract or anything like that, but if you go back on the "handshake", you would have a tough time getting an agent to agree to the same thing next time.
  23. We are 3rd in average punt yards given up and 2nd in average kickoff return yards given up. Top 3 in both categories. We are 3rd in average punt return yards gained and 1st in average kickoff return yards gained. Top 3 in both categories. Lots to complain about with this team, don't need to invent more.
  24. If we start the year with 3 rookies (2 in our top 6) + Petan with a whopping 26 NHL games under his belt, we will be in the hunt for Nolan Patrick next year. Not sure why everyone wants to trade away serviceable players and push rookies into the lineup. Spending time in the AHL and forcing your way into the lineup isn't a bad thing. Handing rookies jobs out of training camp = see last season. My preference is to keep Lowry Stafford Armia and see Connor, Petan, Lemieux and Tanev all start in the Moose. Let them come up when injuries hit and force the coach and GM's hand to keep them up there.
