Riders seem to be collecting a fair number of castoff NFL RBs.

The one thing I'm hoping is that some of these receivers / DBs / LBs actually get a fair shake to show what they have and really hope this team isn't married to any particular player because they are a vet (or a free agent signing).

Say what you will about Mike O'Shea but no one can ever overstate how valuable he has been in turning around the perception and culture of this franchise.

Guys, I'd ask all in this thread to keep the discussion on the issue / topic and not each other. I hate having to prune threads.

I hate seeing players get injured in preseason but I can't say I'm too terribly upset with the Riders NI talent pool taking a hit.

I've got a question: of players who have gone to the NFL but are subsequently cut by that team, how many initially sign with a team other than their original CFL squad? The only one that comes to mind right away is Henoc. I know it's anecdotal but it *feels* like the norm is for players to return to their CFL club.

Cutting a player before a bonus is due has nothing to do with class, it has everything to do with performance. It's a sign that the team doesn't feel the player warrants the investment based on his level of play. A player signing a free agent contract with a team and, without ever participating in *any* team activity, cuts bait after receiving his bonus is pretty sleazy. It's unfortunate there's no mechanism in the CBA which protect teams in situations like this.

Montreal did (still does perhaps).

There's going to be quite the competition in camp for those DB spots and it's going to be a tonne of fun to see how it all plays out.
