Matthew Scianitti tweeted his awards ballot. Westerman is one of his two votes as All Star at DE. Sinopli isn't one of his all star wide receivers. Sinopli is his vote for outstanding Canadian, his rational is because he reinvented himself and "the WR is reliable. Period" Not good enough to be an all star .. but hey .. let's make you the CFL's Most Outstanding Canadian .. At this point .. it's best to just switch off any pretense of logic and what SHOULD happen and let it ride.

I always get disappointed when I log on to see that Rich or Voodoo has deleted posts... damn, I missed some good bickering... No you don't.

Hey if enjoying a forum is only seeing like minded opinions that's totally up to you.If we were all rah rah we could go 0-18 every year and just gather in a circle and sing praise be Blue!☺ It has nothing to do with "rah-rah". It has to do with some people contributing nothing but whining about how bad the team is. I'm quite willing to except that this team has a lot of warts and if people want to discuss those warts intelligently, I'm all for it. If, on the other hand, people just want to ***** non stop in every thread they can, adding nothing of value to the conversations whatsoever, there's no intelligent discussion to be had so... off to the ignore list they go. Completely agree! But being a mod I get to witness the forum in all its unadulterated glory.

We aren't discussing whether or not he would be a good DC. Just whether or not it would be unrealistic to expect him to know how to Design a Defense along with another DC (Etch), which is what your original statement was. That it would be unrealistic to assume so. I'm simply stating that since he's already shown he can take on field experience and transfer that to a playbook via Special teams. It isn't unrealistic that he could also do that for a Defense. Whether or not it would work out is another discussion all together. If he were a former DC at any level then I'd agree with you. As he wasn't I don't. So only DC's can recognize or design defensive schemes then? I'm betting that lots of defensive position coaches can, to various degrees do it, and I'm willing to bet that some players can too. I know this because there is no "magic" that happens once someone is named defensive coordinator. They are not suddenly able to do things that they couldn't do before, it's just that they are now being paid and given the responsibility for doing it. So does O'shea have a background that might allow him to help a DC put together a defensive package? Of course he does. Arguing that he doesn't is just plain silly. Would O'Shea be really good at doing it? Maybe, maybe not. Sure that's how it works. Once someone has enough experience points they level up and gain new skills that they don't have access to before. Oooh someone's got himself a Post of Burning +1 /nerd off.

Again... not one single person said that... 7-11 or 8-10 is close to .500... 9-9 is exactly .500 ...10-8 or better is over .500... I think that's universally accepted terminology... So you're saying if the team goes 11-7 next year... gets 2nd in the west... maybe makes it to the west finals... that's not good enough for you? The post right before mine said 7-11 was the magic number this year, so yes at least one person said it and there are many more who would just be happy to make the playoffs not matter what after the last few years of futility. Close to .500 means close to .500. It doesn't mean under .500. If I meant under .500 that's what I would have typed. 11-7 would have got us 3rd in the west and 4th overall. Yup... that would have been good enough for me. It's certainly better than the 5 wins which made us the 8th best team. I doubt we win an additional 6 games next year or 120% better than this year, but sure... I'd be happy with it next year. gncXX... This isn't moving the goalposts and I'd be ecstatic if we went 18-0 next year and won the cup. Actually .. it does .. close is just reference to the proximity two objects / points have to one another and ... Oh why bother.

I agree. Baltimore is 14th in total offense right now .. that's despite the fact they've really only had Steve Smith up until he popped his Achilles .. they are doing OK offensively considering their limited talent. It's their defense that's completely crapping the bed. Trestman isn't coming back to Canada in the near future. -
Leggett thinks we need to get tougher meaner
voodoochylde replied to Jpan85's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
It's all about where and how those minutes are logged. The offense comes out of the gate flat and leaves the defense on the field for 20 minutes of the first half, do you not think that has an impact on the rest of the game? Granted it's not always as simple as saying that the offense failed to sustain drives .. there were times where the defense simply couldn't get off the field .. but the defensive side of the ball was capable of making adjustments as the game went on .. and at least gave the team a chance. -
See Montreal has confirmed the staff will be back.

Hamilton's backup qbs weren't very good. Ottawa's qb depth is terrible, but they were lucky enough not to need it. Montreal's QB depth isn't anything to scream at either .. came down to the final weeks of the season and they went out and picked up Glenn from the Riders. It's not just about depth. That's only part of the equation. The other part is coaching and the ability to get the most out of players who need to step in when another goes down. We have a coordinator who failed to do that. Who, at the best of times, struggled to put together effective game plans week in week out. No amount of "depth" is going to help when it looks like an entire unit looks completely unprepared for what's being thrown at them.

When fans call out Adams for not hustling on every play, I guess it means they are at the games and see this for themselves. It's pretty damn hard to see that on TV coverage. Either that or there is that "illusion of truth", where if enough people say it, it must be true. I often fall for that, it's easy to do.Adams, not hustling on every play? Don't know myself, but he may have that reputation. He's served well, but we can do better. The thing with Adams is that despite his quickness and ability ..He has a tendency to let the ball get in on him, catching it with his body as opposed to his hands. Really noticeable when passes are thrown at the numbers. A great example was that first toss from Davis last night. He has also lost out on many balls he's needed to compete for .. he's soft when he needs to fight for a contested pass.

And yet there are people on this forum who opined that he was a bust or that he'd only be effective in limited snaps ..

Dominique Davis Named Starting QB vs Argos

Burris started in Regina didn't he? Nope. Calgary from 97-99 before moving to Regina. -
I know, it's pretty weird to see the mention of climate change by the government. .. Surprised that it wasn't given it's own ministry, given the gravity of it. Or... were you being sarcastic? Can't tell. He's a denier ..

The Argos are a wreck right now.

The Next Step to Excitement: Change the Safety Touch
voodoochylde replied to BigBlue's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
It was an attempt to advance the ball and recover it further down field (and potentially catch Ottawa off guard). Drop kicks can be attempted at any time by any team, anyone behind the kicker (the kicker included) is onside and can recover the kick .. the idea being that you hit an open spot on the field .. recover the ball on the run .. potentially score. -

It's not a point for screwing up. It's a point for getting the ball into or through the endzone. Making the field goal just has a bigger reward is all. It's a throwback to our roots as a rugby union. In this day and age, it's a reward for failure. Missing a field goal, in the context of North American football, isn't an accomplishment. -

You are confused. Rider Green never comes off. The fans stick with this team no matter what. Rumours of our demise are wishful thinking and nothing more. Even if no one goes to the game, there is nearly 30k tickets sold. Don't worry we'll be back So what you're saying is that "Rider Green" is like herpes? Never goes away but flares up once in awhile? -
The Next Step to Excitement: Change the Safety Touch

**** happens in sports. I can live with the occasional missed call. That's the human element in any game. We don't need in game reviews to show referees they've missed something. This already goes on. These guys are graded out .. teams submit video to the league .. they are well aware when they've screwed up. What I can't accept is a coach throwing a flag on a hope and prayer on the off chance that a defensive back may have gotten a hand in a little early, made slight contact before the ball arrived or some other minuscule infraction that may result in a large impact on the game. That's essentially what we see now .. it's a lottery system for coaches. Expanding the scope only makes it worse. I *HATE* PI review with a passion. Even though we've benefited from it since it's implementation .. I still detest it with every fibre of my being because of how it negatively affects the flow / tempo of the game and how coaches treat it as a lottery ticket. -

voodoochylde replied to BigBlue's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
No .. just no. Reviewing PI as it stands now is one of the most ridiculous rules we've implemented in the game. It's a cringe worthy lottery ticket. Let players play and keep the tempo of the game intact. These superfluous challenges just bog down the game .. it kills flow and grinds things to a halt .. and make referees more dependent on booth review's and coach instigated challenges instead of simply getting the initial call right. -
MOS: list strengths & weaknesses, good & bad
voodoochylde replied to BigBlue's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
This is the biggest thing to me. Our receivers aren't good enough, we can't seem to find an impact player on the opposite side of Westerman on the DL, the OL has been changing players constantly for the entire time Walters has been here. We've had a bunch of good rbs but none that have really grabbed the job by the balls and taken it. For my money this roster just flat out isn't good enough to start blaming the coach. I would reserve judgement on the running back situation as our running game, in general, is a complete mess. Blocking, inconsistent use and a mediocre passing game have all worked against the guys in the backfield. My one thought is that Marshall has been criminally underused this season - both catching and running the ball - and the near constant rotation of backs during the game does nothing to help establish a rhythm there. -

Dude, I think everyone should be a winner. I vote no coin toss and everyone gets rewarded for just being on the field. This would also allow us to field an all Canadian team. No coin toss. Both teams kick off at the same time. No coverage teams. Everyone having fun! -
The Next Step to Excitement: Change the Safety Touch
voodoochylde replied to BigBlue's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
The only changes I want to see are the removal of rules / situations that are open to interpretation or are the subject of a judgement call. Make things black and white. Remove opportunities for officials to insert themselves into the flow of games. -
