A Look at the Blue Bombers Defensive Line
voodoochylde replied to JuranBoldenRules's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
Simply put a "three technique" defensive lineman is one who typically lines up on the outside shoulder of the guard .. Yes .. there are others .. think of it like this: Starting at the C - a zero (0) technique would be head up on the center with a 1 being on either outside shoulder. At G you have 2i, 2, 3 (2i being inside shoulder, 2 head up and 3 outside shoulder) At T you have 4i, 4, 5 (4i being inside shoulder, 4 head up and 5 outside shoulder) In formations where a TE may be present you have a 6, 7, 8 and 9 technique .. and this breaks from the convention established but 6 is with a lineman lined up head up with the TE, 7 inside shoulder, 9 outside shoulder. An 8 technique is used to describe a wide defensive end alignment (wider than the 9). -
Defensive back Jeremy McGee and offensive lineman Shannon Boatman have been released. #Bombers

Well .. we now have an 'experienced' running back under contract .. not a huge fan of Ford personally but at least he is familiar with the CFL, the game and some of Marcel's offensive philosophy ..

Not gonna lie .. I read this as @dog_fart ..

I wouldn't expect to find any accurate or relevant scouting reports, this guy is 27 years old and hasn't played meaningful football in almost 7 years. I'm not even 100% convinced that he's signed a contract. So where has he been playing? I'm a little concerned about a 27 yr old who hasn't played meaningful football in 7 years. He does look to be a long shot to make the team, but all we can do is hope that the scouting saw something in him worth a longer look. John Madden said that every year when he was in the NFL his team would bring in an interesting long shot. Not concerned in the least .. I'm certain he's not going to be the *ONLY* running back in camp .. he's simply a guy they want to see a little more of ..

Sounds like Edmonton is passing on Jackson ..

Darren Cameron @Darren_Cameron 21s #Bombers announce recently acquired defensive back @24Banks has signed an extension with the team through 2015.

Preseason or not .. winning starts at home .. no way you let a team come into your house and blow you out .. teams need to learn to how to win .. you set that tone day one ..

Matt Nichols recently offered to Bombers

Do you just pull information like this out of your butt? How do you even come to this conclusion? They just lost Glenn, why do you think they'd give us Tate?Just a hunch. Is this the same hunch where you said Khari was going to come here to be our next OC? That wasn't a hunch. It was info relayed to me from the former OC. I merely passed it on. Try to relax. Relax? Really? How am I not relaxed just because I called you out on your misinformation. And wow...bring back something I posted like...13 days ago. And I'm the one that needs to relax. LOL. Might need to switch to decaf though .. ;-) -
I see a combination of Lucas / Thomas rotating in at DT before I see us rolling with 4 NI on the offensive line ..

I'll be a happy guy if they *DO* bring McCune in .. been eyeing him as a replacement for Muamba since it was apparent he was gone .. and, like others have mentioned, he's a bridge .. he's not a long term answer but it shows that Walters and company get it .. they are intent on acquiring veteran guys who can fill leadership roles .. who are performing at a high level .. and allow the younger guys to get reps and grow into a role .. that's been the one gap we've had over the last number of years .. not respecting the impact of quality veteran leaders .. guys who have "been there" .. Also would be nice to have a guy, in the middle of the field, who punishes people.

If Hargreaves starts running from Regina now, he may make it to Ottawa by training camp. Only way he gets there by training camp is if Ettiene can figure out how to stay onside before Hargreaves starts running his route .. (I kid I kid)

If we are going to bring in a veteran LB .. I'd rather it be McCune ..

'Baby Milt' had a great career and was a class act on and off the field .. thanks Edwards for your years of service in Blue and Gold!

New Leadership - "Clean Break" from the "Old Guard"
voodoochylde replied to Armchair GM's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
Definitely a new era of Bomber football .. -
One of the franchise’s all-time greatest receivers – Terrence Edwards -- announces his retirement today, after seven seasons with the Blue Bombers, and nine in the Canadian Football League. “I’ve had a great run in this league, and made countless friends and memories I will forever cherish,” said Edwards. “This city and the Blue Bomber organization has been so good to my family and me, and I just cannot thank them enough for everything they have done. Also, I would really like to acknowledge and thank the fans of the Winnipeg Blue Bombers. The support we get as players is amazing, and that is one of the best things I will take away from my time in Winnipeg.” After joining the Blue Bombers as a free agent in May of 2007, Edwards went on to an illustrious career in a Bomber uniform, hanging his cleats up sitting 4th all-time in receiving yards (7,200 yards), and 10th in yards from scrimmage (7,273) as a Bomber. In all seven seasons, he never failed to gain at least 500 receiving yards and pushed his CFL career totals to 508 catches for 7,637 yards and 47 touchdowns by the end of 2013. Edwards produced five, 1,000-yard seasons in Winnipeg, and a total of 24, 100-yard games, second only to Milt Stegall among all-time Bombers receivers. “Terrence will retire today as one of the best receivers in the history of this franchise. He was a leader of the club’s offence for many years, and players like him simply do not come along every day. He was a special player in our league, and we thank him for everything he has done for our organization,” said General Manager Kyle Walters. Edwards was named to the Division All-Star team three times and twice to the All-CFL team. He led the club in receiving in 2007, 2010 and 2011, with the 2010 campaign marking his career-highs of 1,372 yards and 12 touchdowns. Edwards played in three Grey Cups recording 11 receptions, appearing once as a rookie with Montreal in 2005, and again in 2007 and 2011 with the Blue Bombers. “Terrence Edwards has been a consummate professional for the Winnipeg Football Club throughout the past seven years, and I would personally like to thank him for representing our club with class, hard work, and a burning desire to be successful,” said President and CEO Wade Miller. “He may be hanging them up, but he will always remain a member of the Blue Bomber family.” Edwards first joined the CFL late in the 2005 season when he signed with the Montreal Alouettes. He played his college football at Georgia, where he set numerous records and remains one of the best receivers in Georgia Bulldogs history.

Matthias Goossen or Pierre Lavertu?

Not picking sides here but it's this a case of the pot calling the kettle black? Just saying. -
Will also see Pontbriand and Fitzgerald offensively (depending on the package) .. 2 NI DBs .. Only out of desperation.

Montreal whiffed on a lot of their offensive line picks as well .. but with the volume dedicated to the position .. they unearthed guys who became stalwarts for them .. as I said in the original post .. not every draft pick pans out or will make it at the next level .. but continually bringing in guys .. year after year .. helps position you to find those guys who *will* be successful. .. they also continued to draft linemen when they didn't explicitly have a *need* for it .. future thinking .. sustainability .. -
i hope this where the Bombers break the bank especially on Laurent. Especially given that I don't ever expect to see either Bilukidi or Mulumba in a Bomber uniform .. (well .. maybe not break the bank but make a damned compelling case to come here).
