The funny thing is that over on the Stamps forum, they're bemoaning their team too. I did not know this but apparently Dave Dickenson isn't very highly regarded as a coach in Calgary.

What other reasons for benching someone would you suggest there are other than injury or poor play?

I actually thought Montreal gave up on this guy too early, but chalked it up to them being loaded at linebacker. 22 years old. Thought he was a bright spot on their defense when we took it to them in the first PS game.

They'd be insane to match if the return was four first round draft picks. If Boston makes that offer sheet, I'd drive Trouba to the airport myself. And I love Trouba. But that's four potential lottery picks.

My theory? Our youth has a lot to do with it, as does the continuity (or lack thereof) on our roster. Talent level from 1 to 44 on the game day roster obviously plays a part as well. We've come a long way, but we still need to put together a game when every asset we have is in sync and the team is firing on all cylinders. Week 1 was a perfect example of that, in my opinion. We came out and had a better showing in several areas - our run game was stronger, our receivers created better separation, our play calling was improved and our OL performed better. Unfortunately, you take all those factors and couple it with a QB who had one of the worst games of his life and you see how it panned out. Wasted effort by 80% of our offensive structure, sadly. How long should it take is an interesting question, because obviously the answer is never the same. The best way I can put it? The team that corrects their early errors the quickest is most likely to be the team that finishes the year hoisting the Grey Cup. It's easy to be optimistic and say that Drew played one of his worst pro games ever and we were still within striking distance but it's easy to suggest that he might be "damaged goods" at this point as well - I don't agree, as I believe you need a larger sample size, but it's still an opinion held by some.

Something goes wrong on every single play in football, it doesn't take much for multiple things to go wrong in a single instance.

Not sure how I wrote Shayon Green off, I responded to a thread discussing a suggestion Hubbard might play this week by saying I wouldn't be surprised because Green played horrible. You seem to be missing the idea of a forum. We can only drive content to an extent, it's still up to each individual here to share content. I'll give you an example, since you like them so much: Rich posted a thread about our new signing yesterday (which you mentioned we should do more of) and the only reply you provided in that thread was about something that had nothing to do with the thread at all. So maybe look in the mirror if you want content driven in a certain direction. PS - I have no idea how you could possibly think I'm "the most aggressive", I rarely ever post anymore. And "most negative one in this thread"? Hardly negative at all, just sharing my outlook. Which others seem to agree with. So I guess if there's a "most negative", it's a multi-way tie.

And how do you suggest we do that?

As a secondary thought, I think I came up with a better way to explain how I feel. I avoid talking football with people at work or in my family, including my dad who I attend games with, because all you seem to get out of them is "Willy sucks! Wade Miller sucks! Everything sucks! We're the worst!" and I just find it incredibly frustrating to listen to. I come here to avoid all of that and engage in actual DISCUSSION (what went wrong, what went well, what did you think about this play, what did you see in this situation, etc) and it seems like the general attitude around these parts lately is more akin to the water cooler discussion I avoid in every day situations.

I don't mind reading the criticism. I was very critical of our performance on Friday as well, it was a real dumpster fire. It's the other nonsense that makes it so painful to read the forums. It's pretty obvious people have entirely lost patience, but maybe they need to do a bit better in self-moderation because it's just ridiculous to read some of the commentary after one loss. The most frustrating part is the generalizations and the lack of understanding for the situation. I read something along the lines of "our DL looks like it's no good yet again this year" and wondered how someone could make that determination after a game. Same thing with the comments about two rookie defensive backs. I don't want to attack anyone or criticize anyone for their line of thinking, but it just makes reading this site frustrating as someone who, while disappointed, doesn't really want to engage in the hyperbole or exaggerations.

I basically just come on here to do administrative stuff lately, I've found it quite painful to read a lot of the posts lately from a personal perspective.

Can it get any worse? Wow. We lost by one score in his first game back off a season ending injury. I think some of us are getting ahead of ourselves here.

Been painful to try and read some of the commentary on the forum. I understand why people are frustrated, but it doesn't make it any easier to read all the sky is falling stuff that filled the threads over the weekend. We lost on Friday - indisputable and to say we put in a good showing would be a stretch. But that's just about where the comparisons of this year's offense against last year's start and end. When I watched our offense last year, I saw an OL that couldn't block, predictable play calling and an unimaginative, uninspired effort. I didn't see receivers getting open or an offense that I thought was capable. What did I see on Friday? I saw a QB who had a terrible showing. But I also saw an OL that gave him adequate time for the most part, I saw receivers getting open, I saw play calling that made sense. But it all unraveled because our QB couldn't hit the open guys when he needed to. Last year, we'd frequently go two and out because we'd run a 6 yard curl pattern on first down then run square into the back of the line on 2nd down for no gain. On Friday, I saw us go two and out because Willy was missing the plays that were there to be made. There's a clear difference. I went back and watched the game yesterday. He missed Adams twice. McDuffie once. Smith twice, including one that would've been a sure 75 yard touchdown. The plays were there to be made because our QB got the time he needed to throw, the play call was the right one and the receiver got open. The QB just simply didn't make the throw. That wasn't the issue with our offense last year. Considering our QB has shown a history of being able to make those throws in the past, I'm willing to cautiously chalk up that game to a poor QB performance. My hope now is that we see starting on Friday that it was a one off. Call it garbage time all you want (it wasn't) but I'm glad he at least got things on track in the fourth quarter because we needed something to build on. To see him come back after all those off target deep balls and connect with Adams for once and Davis for another one late in the game was something that will be very important for Drew. Now on to next week. Willy has to be better. Simple as that.

Most will paint last night's offense with the same brush as last year and the year previous, but quite honestly our OL and our play calling were fine. I was impressed with Lapo and I think Willy got adequate protection. He played terrible. He flat out didn't execute the plays that were there to be made and if that's our trouble right now, that's a lot better than a broken offense with the inability to protect our QB. There was a play in the second quarter where Willy had Smith on a seam route and simply overthrew him. If that ball is on the money it's a 75 yard touchdown. He missed a wide open Adams twice as well. I'm willing to let that one be chalked up TJ a bad game. But no doubt he needs to get better. He worked through it as the game went on and was a lot better in the second half but we need a better effort from him all game. Lets see how next week goes.

I don't understand why we would ever want to dump defensemen for forwards, other than this whole expansion draft talk. We walk away from the draft with Laine and Tkachuk? Great, where the hell do all these forwards play? Without getting into line combinations, that's Laine, Connor, Wheeler, Tkachuk, Little, Perreault, Ehlers, Scheifele, Dano, Armia, Lowry, Copp in our 12 - not factoring in Stafford (who will be gone) or any of our forward prospects. If anything, we need to be condensing the amount of forward prospects we have, not trading potential #1 D-men for more of them.

That's a scary defensive line but holy cow is their OL as iffy as ours. Jacob Ruby on the blind side? Good luck with that all night, Westerman is going to eat his lunch.

Can we add my picks? lol I totally missed this thread but I wanted to roll with Winnipeg, Edmonton and Calgary the rest of the way. Not worried about missing yesterday's game as I picked Toronto anyways.

And to all the people who question our Canadian depth - is anyone worried that we aren't using more than one DI on defense tomorrow? No? Canadian depth allows us that luxury.
